Tommy Hottovy - R - Blue Jays

Blue Jays designated LHP Tommy Hottovy for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Henry Blanco on the 40 man-roster. It's been an eventful offseason for Hottovy, who was traded from the Royals to the Rangers in November and claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays just one day ago. Now he could be on the move again.

Rangers acquired LHP Tommy Hottovy from the Royals for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Hottovy was designated for assignment by Kansas City last week after allowing 11 hits and five walks in 9 1/3 innings this past summer with the big league club. He'll act as organizational relief depth for the Rangers.

Hottovy has posted a 4.05 ERA over 17 big league appearances the last two seasons. He's been good at Triple-A over that time and throws left-handed, so he won't have trouble catching on somewhere.

Hottovy has appeared in five games with the Royals this year and holds a 1.63 ERA and 38/6 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings with Triple-A Omaha. He'll pitch out of the bullpen.

Hottovy impressed during spring training and posted a 2.70 ERA and 17/5 K/BB ratio over 10 innings during his brief time with the Storm Chasers. The 30-year-old southpaw should pitch in middle relief.

He gave up three hits while striking out five and walking none. The Blue Jays want him to make at least one more rehab start, but he's on track to return in the early part of June. May 21

	6	Dustin McGowan D.L. Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo. McGowan allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings with High-A Dunedin and notched four strikeouts. The Blue Jays can't count on him given his lengthy injury history, but he could be an option to join the bullpen later this month if all goes well. May 17
	7	Drew Hutchison D.L. Drew Hutchison (elbow) is on track to face live hitters in about three weeks. Hutchison is currently making his way back from Tommy John surgery last August. While the 22-year-old right-hander is unlikely to see any game action until late in the season, he feels good about his progress. "You always want to do more but you know you have to follow the process and do what they tell you to do because that’s what’s in your best interest," said Hutchison. "I feel good, which is good, but you also realize that it’s the process and you need to follow the process." May 8
	8	Kyle Drabek D.L. Kyle Drabek (elbow) expects to throw live batting practice in the next week or two. Drabek threw a bullpen session Monday in extended spring training. He's coming back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career, so the Blue Jays figure to take things slow, but he could be looking at a return around midseason if all goes well. May 8
