Rodriguez was hitting just .282 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 89 minor league games. He'll provide the Reds with a switch-hitting bat off the bench, but isn't a highly regarded prospect.

Reds purchased the contract of INF Henry Rodriguez from Double-A Carlina.

The Reds chose to protect Rodriguez from the Rule 5 draft after he batted .320/.372/.469 with 13 homers and 30 steals between High- and Double-A this season. The 21-year-old hasn't really found a defensive home, but he can hit. He's not ready for a big league roster spot, though.
