Cory Spangenberg had a rough day at the dish in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.
To be fair, the entire Padres' offense had a rough day at the office, as they mustered only five hits and failed to scratch out a run against Hyun-Jin Ryu and company. For the season, he's now slashing just .231/.297/.364 with seven homers, 25 RBI and six stolen bases. He remains irrelevant for fantasy purposes. Sep 23 - 7:27 PM

Cory Spangenberg homered and walked twice against the Angels on Wednesday.

Spangenberg isn't a very good player, but he's hot at the moment, having hit .406 with five extra-bats in 32 at-bats over his last 12 games. The Padres will keep him in the lineup until he cools off, even though that means playing him at second since Wil Myers is at third.
Aug 16 - 12:11 AM

Padres recalled INF/OF Cory Spangenberg from Triple-A El Paso.

Spangenberg is sporting an ugly .232/.264/.378 batting line in the majors this season. He'll back up at multiple positions.
Jul 22 - 10:34 AM

Padres optioned INF Cory Spangenberg to Triple-A El Paso.

Spangenberg has batted only .232/.264/.378 over 65 games for the Pads and finds himself back in the minors for the second time this season. Christian Villanueva will see a few more starts at third base with Spangenberg out of the picture.
Jul 9 - 7:13 PM

Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's 4-2 loss against the Athletics.

Spangenberg was the only Padres player to bring his hitting shoes to Petco Park, posting the only multi-hit game for the home side. All eight San Diego starting batters struck out at least once in the game, including one by Spangenberg. Despite the two-hit game he is still batting just .232 overall. However, he is enjoying his best month of the season, hitting .320 (16-for-50) to raise his average from .182 since flipping the calendar from May.
Jun 20 - 3:07 AM

Corey Spangenberg contributed two hits Wednesday in the Padres’ win over Atlanta.

Spangenberg drove in the Padres’ first run with an RBI triple in the second inning and scored later in the frame on a single by Manuel Margot. He chipped in with a single of his own in the eighth, but was stranded at second base. The 27-year-old has shown signs of life with five hits in his last four contests, but he’s still hitting below the Mendoza line with 39 strikeouts in 107 at-bats this year.
Jun 6 - 7:08 PM

Cory Spangenberg came on as a defensive replacement Tuesday against Atlanta, going hitless in two at-bats with a strikeout.

Spangenberg was thrust into action as a relief pitcher in the ninth inning of the 14-1 loss, allowing one earned run, two hits and a walk in his 15-pitch appearance on the hill. His pitching wasn't nearly as poor as his hitting has been, as he is batting just .194 on the season. Spangenberg's fantasy appeal is rather negligible at the moment.
Jun 6 - 1:14 AM

Cory Spangenberg collected his fifth homer and first triple Monday against the Braves.

Spangenberg is getting extra playing time with Christian Villanueva banged up, and he's now homered in back-to-back games. It still leaves him at .188 with a 36/3 K/BB ratio in 101 at-bats for the year, so he has a ways to go.
Jun 5 - 1:24 AM

Cory Spangenberg went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the loss to the Reds on Friday.

Spangenberg has been positively dreadful this year, but the Padres keep using him; he's started four of the team's last six games while hitting either second or fifth. Meanwhile, he's batting .174 with a 34/3 K/BB ratio in 92 at-bats. He's not an asset defensively, either.
Jun 2 - 1:34 AM

Padres recalled INF/OF Cory Spangenberg from Triple-A El Paso.

Spangenberg will take the place of Chase Headley, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Spangenberg was hitting .293/.328/.534 in 13 games at Triple-A prior to the promotion. He'll fill in all over the diamond for the Pads.
May 12 - 4:48 PM

Padres optioned INF/OF Cory Spangenberg to Triple-A El Paso.

Spangenberg is batting just .196/.237/.357 this season and had seen his playing time really dwindle recently.
Apr 27 - 6:05 PM

Cory Spangenberg had an RBI double, a stolen base and two runs scored in a win over the Giants on Sunday.

Spangenberg also walked in the game, which was his most productive in nearly two weeks. Coming into the game, he had just three hits -- a double and two singles, with no RBI or runs scored -- in his previous 25 at-bats. His versatility makes him valuable, but he'll have to start producing if he wants to stay a regular part of an improving Padres lineup.
Apr 15 - 8:36 PM

Cory Spangenberg finished 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in Wednesday's 5-2 loss against the Rockies.

Spangenberg had the first two hits of the game for the Padres before his teammates joined him and added four more knocks. He seemed to be the only one able to solve Jon Gray, who was throwing darts. Spangenberg was also making his first start in left field. His versatility from an eligibility perspective is his most endearing feature to fantasy owners in NL-only formats.
Apr 5 - 2:54 AM

Cory Spangenberg finished 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's home loss against the Brewers.

The highlight of Spangenberg's evening was a two-run shot off of Milwaukee starter Jhoulys Chacin, his first hit in five at-bats on the young season. The Swiss Army Knife fell short in his battle for the starting second base job, but he'll make several starts there, at third base like today, and all over. Spangenberg is a popular player for fantasy owners in NL-only leagues because of his multi-eligibility.
Mar 31 - 4:10 AM

Cory Spangenberg went 3-for-3 and cracked a solo home run in Friday's Cactus League win over the White Sox.

He singled twice in the game while serving as the second baseman and leadoff batter. He followed a Matt Szczur solo shot with one of his own off starter Carson Fulmer in the third inning. Spangenberg started 86 games at third base for the Padres last year, and also played some second base and outfield. He is battling for the starting second base job this spring and is likely to play all over the diamond again this year.
