Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that he expects Rule 5 pick Sean Gilmartin to make the Opening Day roster.
The Mets acquired Jerry Blevins and Alex Torres on Monday, so if they decide to keep Gilmartin, that means they will carry three left-handers in their bullpen. Gilmartin would have to go back to the Twins if he doesn't make the team. The 24-year-old has a 5.19 ERA with an 11/5 K/BB ratio over 8 2/3 innings this spring. Mar 30 - 4:03 PM

Mets selected LHP Sean Gilmartin from the Twins in the Rule 5 draft.

Gilmartin was the pitcher the Twins got from the Braves for Ryan Doumit a year ago. The 24-year-old has little in the way of upside, and while he succeeded back in Double-A last season, he wasn't as impressive after returning to Triple-A, finishing 2-4 with a 4.28 ERA in 14 starts. In 2013, he had a 5.74 ERA in 17 Triple-A starts. He's not worth the roster spot for the Mets.

Twins acquired LHP Sean Gilmartin from the Braves for C/OF Ryan Doumit.

Although not as gratifying as the 1991 World Series result, Minnesota will take the win here. The Twins didn't want to pay Doumit's $3.5 million salary next season, and now they won't have to. This transaction is great news for AL-only owners sniffing around Jason Kubel's 2014 sleeper potential, as Doumit would have been his primary competition for DH at-bats. Gilmartin might remind Twins fans of a more polished Scott Diamond, if you'll forgive the pun. The 2011 first-round pick is a southpaw with subpar velocity who pounds the strike zone with good movement. The Twins can let him marinate at Triple-A Rochester next summer because it has four veteran starters under contract and a host of fifth starter candidates already in place.

The Twins will receive pitching prospect Sean Gilmartin from the Braves in return for Ryan Doumit, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

A 2011 first-round pick, Gilmartin shot all the way up to Triple-A in his first full professional campaign. He was blasted this past at Gwinnett, however, going 3-8 with a 5.74 ERA. Gilmartin doesn't have great stuff, but he pounds the strike zone with a three-pitch arsenal. Minnesota, which is desperate for starting pitching of any kind, did well to acquire a lottery ticket for a player they no longer wanted.

Braves pitching prospect Sean Gilmartin has been placed on Triple-A Gwinnett's disabled list due to shoulder tendinitis.

A 2011 first-round pick, Gilmartin has struggled this season with a 5.83 ERA and 47/30 K/BB ratio over 71 innings with Gwinnett. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined.

Braves reassigned LHP Sean Gilmartin and RHP Wirfin Obispo to minor league camp.

Neither had a real shot to crack the Opening Day roster. One of the club's top pitching prospects, Gilmartin will be part of Triple-A Gwinnett's rotation.

Braves prospect Sean Gilmartin pitched six shutout innings Saturday, allowing only two hits in his debut for Double-A Mississippi.

He did not strike out or walk any hitters in the game, throwing 43 of his 71 pitches for strikes. Gilmartin, a 21-year-old left-hander, was the Braves' first-round selection (28th overall) in the 2011 draft.

The Braves have agreed to terms with their first-round pick from the 2011 draft, left-hander Sean Gilmartin.

Gilmartin is the seventh first-round pick to sign a contract. A promising left-handed starter, he's known for having a highly developed changeup and should move quickly through the Braves' minor league system.

Braves selected FSU left-hander Sean Gilmartin with the 28th pick.

The Braves don't go the college route in the first round very often, but they were known to be on the lookout for a left-hander. While Gilmartin doesn't have the ceiling of current Braves' left-hander Mike Minor, he is similarly known for his plus-changeup.
