Giants' top pitching prospect Tyler Beede is expected to miss the remainder of the 2017 season due to his groin strain.
The club had hoped to get a look at Beede during September, but they'll play things extremely cautiously with their prized right-hander. It's likely that he'll work in the Arizona Fall League in order to bolster his innings total for the season. Jul 29 - 10:19 AM

Date:

Giants prospect right-hander Tyler Beede was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Sacramento on Monday due to a groin strain.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that Beede suffered the injury while warming up. There should be more clarity on his status soon. The 24-year-old has compiled a 4.79 ERA and 83/39 K/BB ratio in 109 innings over 19 starts this year.
Jul 24 - 3:33 PM

Giants prospect Tyler Beede pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on Wednesday for Triple-A Sacramento.

Beede gave up the four runs on eight hits, walked three and struck out eight. The strikeouts are nice, but he struggled with command on Wednesday, and he also gave up three homers on the night. Until he shows more consistency, it's unlikely he makes his debut with San Francisco this summer. It's too bad, because the stuff looks like it's ready to go right now. The command just isn't there yet.
Jun 8 - 1:17 PM

Giants prospect Tyler Beede gave up just one run in six innings for Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.

Beede only struck out three in those six innings, but he also only walked one and allowed just three hits. There's been more good than bad for the former first-round pick this year, and with Madison Bumgarner's injury, the Giants will likely need his right arm at some point in 2017. It could be before June if he keeps having more starts like this.
May 1 - 1:46 PM

Giants prospect Tyler Beede struggled on Monday, giving up five runs in under five innings for Triple-A Sacramento.

Beede didn't get a lot of help from his defense, and two of those runs were unearned. He did give up eight hits, however, and he walked three. With Madison Bumgarner out for a substantial amount of time, Beede has an opportunity to join the rotation. He'll have to pitch better than this to make it a reality.
Apr 25 - 1:07 PM

Giants pitching prospect didn't allow a run in his start on Wednesday for Triple-A Sacramento.

In his 6 2/3 innings, Beede did allow three walks but he also only allowed three hits and struck out four. It's a nice bounce back for the 2014 first-round selection, and while he's putting too many hitters on via walk (seven in 16 2/3 innings) there's been more good than bad to begin the year.
Apr 20 - 1:13 PM

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede gave up just one run in his 2017 debut for Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.

Beede gave up just five hits over the six innings of work, and while he only struck out three, he also didn't walk anyone. He has two swing-and-miss pitches in his fastball and change, and when he's locating his breaking-balls, he's very tough to hit. The upside isn't elite, but Beede should miss just enough bats to be fantasy relevant, with a strong chance of showing that relevancy in 2017.
Apr 10 - 1:05 PM

Tyler Beede pitched well in Saturday's Cactus League game against the A's, allowing two runs on five hits over four innings.

That hit total might have been a bit high, but otherwise, fine work by Beede. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out five and did not walk a batter on the afternoon. He will start the season at Triple-A Sacramento but figures to receive a call-up from the Giants at some point during the 2017 season.
Apr 1 - 6:05 PM

Giants optioned RHP Tyler Beede to Triple-A Sacramento.

The right-hander wrapped up an impressive showing in Cactus League play with a pair of shutout innings on Sunday. He should debut with the Giants at some point in 2017.
Mar 19 - 6:45 PM

Tyler Beede started against the Angels on Thursday and held them scoreless for two innings.

He gave up a pair of hits and a walk while striking out one. The 23-year-old former first-round draft pick is an exciting prospect who delivered a 2.81 ERA in 24 starts at Double-A last year. He will likely start the season at Triple-A and could provide a boost to the Giants' rotation as soon as this summer.
Mar 2 - 11:28 PM

Giants RHP prospect Tyler Beede hurled nine shutout frames Monday in a win for Double-A Richmond.

Beede allowed just two hits while recording a career-high 11 strikeouts. Monday marked the right-hander's first shutout in 51 minor league starts. It was also his first complete game. The nine-inning gem snapped a four-start winless streak for the 23-year-old. The 2014 first-round pick leads the Eastern League with 133 strikeouts this season and also holds the league's second-lowest ERA at 2.87. Given the state of San Francisco's aging starting rotation, it might not be long until Beede gets an opportunity in the big leagues.

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede scattered five hits and one run over seven innings Tuesday in a loss for Double-A Richmond.

He retired eight hitters in a row at one point. Beede is now 1-3 with a 4.15 ERA in five starts since getting called up from High-A San Jose. The five strikeouts Beede recorded Tuesday were his most since June 12 versus Erie. Opponents have hit .243 off the right-hander this season.

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede has been promoted from High-A San Jose to Double-A Richmond.

Beede tallied a career-high 11 strikeouts Saturday in his final start for San Jose and will finish his stay at High-A with a 2.24 ERA, 1.146 WHIP, and 37/9 K/BB ratio in 52 1/3 innings. The 22-year-old right-hander was the 14th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft.

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede contributed a career-high 11 strikeouts Saturday for High-A San Jose.

His previous career-high was six. He only allowed four hits over seven shutout innings but the bullpen blew a two-run lead in the eighth, costing Beede what would have been his third win of the season. The Vanderbilt product is now third in the California League in ERA (2.24) and fifth in WHIP (1.15). With a few more starts like this, the 23-year-old could be headed to Double-A Richmond.

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede evened his record at 2-2 Saturday with a win for High-A San Jose.

Beede fired six shutout innings, striking out three with one walk. Saturday's performance came six days after Beede's worst start of the season, a four-run, nine-hit no-decision against Visalia. Saturday, which also happened to be Beede's 22nd birthday, was the right-hander's first scoreless outing since April 9.
