Tyler Beede - S - Blue Jays

According to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo, the Blue Jays are not expected to reach an agreement with first-round pick Tyler Beede before the August 15 deadline.

Beede was selected with the No. 21 overall pick in June's first-year player draft, but he's gave a commitment to Vanderbilt University and now apparently plans to honor it. The 18-year-old pitcher from Massachusetts won't be eligible for the draft again until 2014.

Tyler Beede - S - Blue Jays

The Blue Jays selected Massachusetts high school pitcher Tyler Beede at No. 21 overall.

Beede has mature mechanics and throws three quality pitches: a low-90s fastball with good life, a hard-breaking slurve and a changeup. The 20-year-old right-hander is committed to Vanderbilt, so the Blue Jays will have to flash some dollar signs to get a deal struck.

He's feeling good physically, but the right-hander obviously needs to build up his stamina. He'll rejoin the rotation in early June if he can avoid a setback. May 21

	6	Dustin McGowan D.L. Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo. McGowan allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings with High-A Dunedin and notched four strikeouts. The Blue Jays can't count on him given his lengthy injury history, but he could be an option to join the bullpen later this month if all goes well. May 17

	9	Kyle Drabek D.L. Kyle Drabek (elbow) expects to throw live batting practice in the next week or two. Drabek threw a bullpen session Monday in extended spring training. 	3	Darren Oliver D.L. Blue Jays placed LHP Darren Oliver on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19. with a left shoulder strain. Oliver has been dealing with the ailment for 7-10 and hadn't appeared in a game in nearly a week. He shouldn't be out long, but the Jays have decided to play things safe. Toronto still has two lefties in the bullpen in Aaron Loup and Brett Cecil. May 24
