Giants RHP prospect Tyler Beede hurled nine shutout frames Monday in a win for Double-A Richmond.
Beede allowed just two hits while recording a career-high 11 strikeouts. Monday marked the right-hander's first shutout in 51 minor league starts. It was also his first complete game. The nine-inning gem snapped a four-start winless streak for the 23-year-old. The 2014 first-round pick leads the Eastern League with 133 strikeouts this season and also holds the league's second-lowest ERA at 2.87. Given the state of San Francisco's aging starting rotation, it might not be long until Beede gets an opportunity in the big leagues. Aug 30 - 4:06 PM

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede contributed a career-high 11 strikeouts Saturday for High-A San Jose.

His previous career-high was six. He only allowed four hits over seven shutout innings but the bullpen blew a two-run lead in the eighth, costing Beede what would have been his third win of the season. The Vanderbilt product is now third in the California League in ERA (2.24) and fifth in WHIP (1.15). With a few more starts like this, the 23-year-old could be headed to Double-A Richmond.

Giants pitching prospect Tyler Beede evened his record at 2-2 Saturday with a win for High-A San Jose.

Beede fired six shutout innings, striking out three with one walk. Saturday's performance came six days after Beede's worst start of the season, a four-run, nine-hit no-decision against Visalia. Saturday, which also happened to be Beede's 22nd birthday, was the right-hander's first scoreless outing since April 9.

Giants prospect Tyler Beede collected a season-high six strikeouts Tuesday in a win for High-A San Jose.

The 2014 first-round pick is off to a solid start, holding his opponents to two runs over his last two outings. Beede's early success can be attributed to a high ground ball rate. Nine of the 18 outs he recorded Tuesday came via ground balls and overall he has a 3.08 ground-out to fly-out rate. Strikeouts have been hard to come by for Beede, who has just 12 in 21 1/3 innings.

Giants prospect RHP Tyler Beede allowed one hit and one walk and struck out three batters over two scoreless innings on Thursday for the Rookie-level Giants of the Arizona League.

Beede, the No. 14 overall pick in this year’s draft, didn’t sign until July 8 after guiding Vanderbilt to a College World Series title, so Thursday’s outing was only his second as a professional. In his debut on July 31, the right-hander struck out and walked a pair while tossing a scoreless frame. Beede won’t log many innings this summer after his long college season, but he should open 2015 at one of the team’s Class-A affiliates.

Giants signed first-round pick LHP Tyler Beede.

MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo reports that Beede will receive $2.65 million, which is a tad above the assigned slot value for the No. 14 pick of $2.6132 million. Beede's numbers were down a pick this past season at Vandy, but he has loads of upside.

Giants selected Vanderbilt left-hander Tyler Beede with the 14th overall pick.

Beede was the 21st overall pick by the Blue Jays in 2011, but he opted to head to Vandy rather than sign. He goes 13th overall despite having the weakest numbers of the Commodores' primary starters this season, finishing 8-7 with a 3.20 ERA and a 106/43 K/BB in 98 1/3 innings. Still, there's more upside here than one might expect with a college pitcher.

The Blue Jays failed to reach an agreement with first-round pick Tyler Beede.

Beede was selected 21st overall by the Blue Jays in June's draft, but has decided to attend Vanderbilt University. According to Keith Law of ESPN.com, the 18-year-old right-hander turned down an offer of $2.3 million.

According to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo, the Blue Jays are not expected to reach an agreement with first-round pick Tyler Beede before the August 15 deadline.

Beede was selected with the No. 21 overall pick in June's first-year player draft, but he's gave a commitment to Vanderbilt University and now apparently plans to honor it. The 18-year-old pitcher from Massachusetts won't be eligible for the draft again until 2014.

The Blue Jays selected Massachusetts high school pitcher Tyler Beede at No. 21 overall.

Beede has mature mechanics and throws three quality pitches: a low-90s fastball with good life, a hard-breaking slurve and a changeup. The 20-year-old right-hander is committed to Vanderbilt, so the Blue Jays will have to flash some dollar signs to get a deal struck.
