Giants manager Bruce Bochy believes that Hector Sanchez (shoulder) will be ready for Opening Day.

Sanchez was able to catch six innings on Friday and also knocked one over the boards. As far as offensive potential goes, he's one of the strongest backup catchers in the league, though his value is limited to NL-only leagues as long as Buster Posey is healthy.

If the progress continues, Sanchez will likely catch an exhibition game in the next few days. Giants manager Bruce Bochy had previously expressed some concern regarding Sanchez's availability for Opening Day, so Saturday's news should be viewed as a positive development.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy stated his concern on Tuesday over Hector Sanchez's (shoulder) availability for Opening Day.

Sanchez has been dealing with a shoulder issue for the majority of spring training and isn't progressing quickly enough. Due to the fact that it's a recurring issue, the Giants will probably err on the side of caution and not rush the young catcher back into the swing of things. Look for Guillermo Quiroz to serve as the backup to Buster Posey for the first few weeks of the season if Sanchez is unable to get on track.

The Giants have shut down Hector Sanchez (shoulder) until Tuesday, after which he could receive extra swings in minor league games.

Sanchez has been plagued by the shoulder issue for nearly the entirety of spring camp, and hasn't shown any improvement in recent days. If he doesn't feel any better after the weekend off, he may require an MRI. Guillermo Quiroz could start the season as the backup catcher to Buster Posey if Sanchez isn't ready to go.

Sanchez's shoulder has bothered him for most of camp and doesn't seem to be getting any better. If he's not ready by Opening Day, Guillermo Quiroz is an option to back up Buster Posey.

Hector Sanchez was scratched from the Giants' Cactus League lineup on Thursday due to a sore shoulder.

Sanchez has also missed time this spring with a calf injury. He is expected to serve as Buster Posey's backup this season but may now be questionable for Opening Day. Johnny Monell took his place for Thursday's game.

Sanchez has been sidelined the last four games with a right calf injury, but it's not anything to be concerned about. The Giants expect him to return to Cactus League games this weekend.

Sanchez is expected to begin catching in Cactus League games by the end of this week. He has been slowed by a right shoulder injury, but it's considered to be minor.

Hector Sanchez is being slowed by a right shoulder injury that will keep him out of Cactus League games for the time being.

Sanchez said he suffered the injury while playing winter ball in Venezuela. He is able to take batting practice but will not participate in spring games until he is able to throw. There is no timetable for his return, but the injury is thought to be day-to-day. Sanchez is stuck squarely behind NL MVP Buster Posey, so this injury will likely have little impact on his playing time anyway.

Bochy said Sanchez might need to get on the Panda Plan with fellow out of shape teammate Pablo Sandoval. Sanchez will open the 2013 season as the backup to Buster Posey.

As Giants skipper Bruce Bochy had alluded to, Hector Sanchez will hit eighth and serve as the team's DH for Game 3 of the World Series on Saturday night in Detroit.

The rest of the lineup is pretty standard for San Fran, going Angel Pagan, Marco Scutaro, Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Brandon Belt, Gregor Blanco, Sanchez then Brandon Crawford.
