Hector Sanchez (concussion) failed a concussion test Monday.

He'll have to wait 3-4 days before he can take another one. Sanchez was placed on the disabled list Saturday after having to leave Friday's game following a foul top to the mask.
Jul 28 - 7:55 PM

Giants placed C Hector Sanchez on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Sanchez was struck in the mask by a foul ball which forced him to leave Friday's game against the Dodgers. The hope is that he'll be ready to rejoin the team in a week after his symptoms subside.
Jul 26 - 2:21 PM

Hector Sanchez was diagnosed with a mild concussion after leaving Friday's game.

Sanchez was hurt when he took a foul tip off his mask. He'll probably go on the seven-day DL prior to Saturday's game, with either Guillermo Quiroz or Andrew Susac replacing him on the roster.
Jul 26 - 2:01 AM

Hector Sanchez was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers after taking a foul tip off his mask.

Sanchez looked to be noticeably woozy while sitting in the dugout the next half inning before Buster Posey replaced him behind the dish. He'll undoubtedly be run through the standard concussion protocol, so don't expect to see him back in the Giants lineup for at least the next few days.
Jul 26 - 12:51 AM

Hector Sanchez has been declared fit for action after taking a foul tip off the mask Monday.

"He took a pretty good shot," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "I thought I was going to have to take him out then. He knew the situation and inning and (number of) outs. He got the OK to finish the game." While Sanchez has been cleared to play, he admitted to feeling "a lot of dizziness" Monday and is concerned about the number of foul tips he's taken off the mask. "I have to think about it," he said. "Almost all of my hits are in the head. It's something that's happened to me my whole career."
May 28 - 10:49 AM

Hector Sanchez had three of the Giants' six hits and one of their two walks Saturday in the shutout loss to the Marlins.

Sanchez is 13-for-31 this month, but he didn't add to his exceptional total of 16 RBI in 63 at-bats in this one. He's getting more playing time with Brandon Belt hurt, but probably still not as much as his recent performance deserves.
May 18 - 12:07 AM

Hector Sanchez went 4-for-7 with three RBI in the 13-inning game Monday.

It's Sanchez's second career four-hit game; the other came in a 12-inning game against the Astros in 2012. He's managed 14 RBI in just 36 at-bats this season, but barring a Buster Posey injury -- and no one wants that -- he's not about to start getting more playing time.
May 6 - 12:54 AM

Hector Sanchez hit a grand slam in the 11th inning -- his second home run of the game -- and the Giants outlasted the Rockies for a 12-10 win on Wednesday.

The teams combined for 22 runs and 29 hits, with Sanchez accounting for four of those runs on one swing. Getting the start for Buster Posey behind the plate, Sanchez also added a solo homer in the eighth inning. They were his first two home runs of the year, and his five RBI more than doubled his total heading into the game.
Apr 23 - 7:51 PM

Hector Sanchez went 2-for-3 in Friday's 3-0 victory over the Athletics in Cactus League action.

The 24-year-old has always displayed significant offensive potential, but with Buster Posey entrenched behind the plate just hasn't been able to get enough playing time to be fantasy relevant. He could see additional at-bats this season serving as Brandon Belt's backup at first base.
Mar 22 - 12:19 AM

Hector Sanchez could see some time at first base this season.

Sanchez started Wednesday's game at first base, and Giants manager Bruce Bochy liked what he saw. "It’s a nice option to have if we want to get Hector in the game and Buster (Posey) is behind the plate," Bochy said. "He’s earned another look over there, I’ll say that." Brandon Belt is the primary first baseman, of course, but Sanchez could be a backup or emergency option. Sanchez should also see some time behind the plate on Posey's days off.
Mar 12 - 8:15 PM

Hector Sanchez lost 20 pounds over the offseason.

Sanchez also said that his right shoulder, which gave him issues off and on last season, feels "amazing." The 24-year-old backstop is slated to back up Buster Posey again this season.
Feb 14 - 11:01 AM

Hector Sanchez smashed a go-ahead, pinch-hit, three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning in Thursday's win over the Nationals.

Sanchez was given another life when a 2-2 pitch was called for a ball, and he sent Rafael Soriano's 3-2 offering into the upper deck in right field. It was the backstop's first longball of the season, as he's been limited to just 48 at-bats due to shoulder issues.

Giants activated C Hector Sanchez from the 15-day disabled list.

Sanchez wound up missing a full four weeks with a right shoulder strain. He'll return to his backup role behind Giants starting catcher and MVP candidate Buster Posey.
Thu, Aug 8, 2013 01:15:00 PM

Hector Sanchez (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Wednesday night at High-A San Jose.

It was his second live game since he landed on the disabled list July 9 with a strained right shoulder; his first was Monday in the Arizona Rookie League. Sanchez should be cleared for activation next week. Guillermo Quiroz has been serving as Buster Posey's backup.
