Rays signed RHP Kyle McPherson to a two-year minor league contract.

McPherson will report to extended spring training. He's dealt with a myriad of arm injuries over the last few seasons, having undergone both Tommy John surgery and a surgery to repair a broken elbow. He last pitched in the majors in 2012.

Kyle McPherson underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a broken medial epicondyle in his right elbow.

McPherson was working his way back from Tommy John surgery when he apparently broke his elbow somehow. The Pirates were hoping to have him as an option around midseason, but he'll now miss all of the 2014 campaign.

Kyle McPherson (elbow) is throwing off flat ground and expects to get on a mound in two weeks.

McPherson underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last July and will miss the first half of the 2014 regular season. The 26-year-old right-hander showed some promise in 2012 and should get a legit look in Pittsburgh sometime after the All-Star break.

Kyle McPherson (elbow) is hoping to be ready to throw off a mound at the start of spring training.

Working his way back from July Tommy John surgery, McPherson is currently soft-tossing and throwing from 120 feet. He expects to be ready to start throwing fastballs on flat ground later this week before progressing to mound work next month. The 26-year-old is hoping he can make an impact with the Pirates sometime after the All-Star break.

Pirates re-signed RHP Kyle McPherson to a minor league contract.

He also received a spring training invite. Earlier this winter, Pittsburgh designated McPherson for assignment and then released him. Having found the free market to be no more forgiving of a pitcher on the mend, McPherson returns home. McPherson underwent Tommy John surgery in July and won't be recovered until the middle of the 2014 season.

Pirates non-tendered RHP Kyle McPherson.

It comes after he was designated for assignment last week. McPherson isn't due to hit arbitration for a few years, but the Pirates have decided not to pay him while he's rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. He's flashed promise in the minors and in his brief time with the big club, making him an interesting flier for someone.

Kyle McPherson underwent Tommy John surgery on July 10.

McPherson has been on the disabled list with Triple-A Indianapolis since early April and was recently shut down from his throwing program after experiencing lingering pain in his right elbow/forearm. The surgery is expected to sideline him into the 2014 season.

Kyle McPherson still has soreness in his right elbow and will be shut down for an extended period.

McPherson was given an injection in his elbow earlier this month, but it apparently hasn't helped. Surgery will become an option if the shutdown period doesn't work.

Kyle McPherson received an injection in his right elbow on Monday and will be shut down for the next two weeks.

He will be re-evaluated after the two weeks before the Pirates decide whether he's ready to resume throwing. McPherson probably would have made a spot start over the weekend in place of the injured Wandy Rodriguez had he been healthy.

Kyle McPherson will have his sore right elbow examined by Pirates doctors this week.

The club is trying to determine whether McPherson's elbow issue is a major or minor one. An update on his status will be provided later this week.

Kyle McPherson has been placed on 7-day minor league disabled list with right forearm tightness.

With Wandy Rodriguez (hamstring) sidelined, McPherson was under consideration for a promotion, but he's apparently dealing with some sort of elbow injury. It's another blow to the Pirates' pitching depth. Phil Irwin will make a spot start Sunday against the Reds.
