Steve Lombardozzi went 3-for-4 with a two-run double in Friday's win over the Phillies.
The three-hit night pulled his batting average up from .220 to .242 on the year. With Danny Espinosa (wrist) ailing, Lombardozzi should get regular playing time at second base over the next few days. He doesn't excel in any one category, but with his multi-position eligibility, he could be useful in deeper mixed fantasy leagues. May 24 - 9:58 PM

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said during a radio appearance Wednesday that Steve Lombardozzi will play second base for the final two games of the series against the Braves.

This means that the struggling Danny Espinosa will take a seat. Of course, Lombardozzi hasn't been much better lately, as he's hitless over his last 13 at-bats dating back to April 23. Still, it's a situation to monitor in fantasy leagues.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Wednesday that Steve Lombardozzi will begin playing regularly.

The Nationals have struggled to produce offensively over the past week and believe starting Lombardozzi could provide a spark. The 24-year-old is hitting .345 with an .815 OPS in 31 plate appearances this season. He can play a variety of positions and will get a nice boost in fantasy value with the added playing time.

While his teammates were combining for 16 hits and 12 runs, Steve Lombardozzi went 0-for-6 for the Nationals on Sunday.

The Nationals are optimistic that Danny Espinosa's shoulder problems won't force him out of the lineup at any point, but Lombardozzi is supposed to be their fallback if something goes wrong. Now it's worth wondering if Anthony Rendon might not be the choice instead. While Rendon is tearing it up this spring, Lombardozzi is 9-for-52 with a couple of doubles, no homers and one walk.
Mar 17 - 5:15 PM

Steve Lombardozzi was responsible for all of the Nationals' offense in Saturday's loss to the Phillies, smashing a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Lombardozzi finished the night 1-for-4. He's been a nice luxury for the Nationals to have this season, able to fill in at several positions without a major dropoff offensively. The 23-year-old is hitting .283 with two home runs, 23 RBI and four stolen bases.

Steve Lombardozzi had four hits, including a triple, and four runs scored against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

A rare big night for the Nationals' leadoff man; Lombardozzi entered the game with a .248/.291/.336 line and 22 runs scored in 51 games from that spot. He scored as many runs tonight as he had in his previous 17 starts combined.

Steve Lombardozzi will take over at second base in Ian Desmond's absence, with Danny Espinosa shifting to shortstop.

Lombardozzi is immediately startable in all NL-only formats. Mark DeRosa, meanwhile, will be Washington's primary backup infielder, which makes him worth a roster spot in deep NL-only formats. While he doesn't have eye-popping numbers, the 23-year-old Lombardozzi has done a nice job for the Nats, hitting .267 with 15 RBI over 248 plate appearances, while playing terrific defense at four different positions. If the Nationals don't make a trade, Lombardozzi will spend at least a month as a regular, as Desmond isn't expected back until late-August or early-September.

Steve Lombardozzi had two hits and drove home a run, supporting Stephen Strasburg and leading the Nationals to a 4-0 victory over the Marlins on Sunday.

With Ian Desmond sitting down for a few days, Lombardozzi got the call at second base in this one with Danny Espinosa shifting over to shortstop. While he doesn't have eye-popping numbers, the 23-year-old Lombardozzi has done a nice job for the Nats, hitting .269 with 10 RBI on the year, while playing terrific defense at four different positions. While he isn't an impact fantasy player this season, keep an eye on him for next year.

Steve Lombardozzi went 0-for-5 against the Jays on Wednesday and is 5-for-35 this month.

Lombardozzi started earning himself time in left field with his nice May, but he's been ice cold so far in June. Ideally, the Nationals would be able to push him back into a utility role.

Steve Lombardozzi went yard on Sunday as part of a 1-for-3 effort against the Braves.

It was Lombardozzi's first major league homer and came in his 139th at-bat. He is batting a very impressive .309.

Steve Lombardozzi went 2-for-4 as the Nationals fell to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Lombardozzi has been receiving the majority of the starts at third base in the absence of Ryan Zimmerman, and has provided solid production in the interim. He's now hitting .289 (11-for-38) on the season and possesses a decent combination of power and speed. Those in search of an injury replacement at middle infielder would be wise to consider Lombardozzi as a fill-in while he's receiving regular playing time.

Steve Lombardozzi took advantage of a rare start Monday, going 4-for-5 with a run and two RBI in a win over the Astros.

Manager Davey Johnson looks smart for giving Danny Espinosa a breather after Lombardozzi's big night. He had the biggest hit of the game, driving in two in the sixth with a double that proved to be the winning runs. Lombardozzi should be a nice bench player, but he's not fantasy material right now.
Mon, Apr 16, 2012 10:20:00 PM

Nationals' manager Davey Johnson said Tuesday that he has considered giving Steve Lombardozzi some playing time in the outfield.

Lombardozzi has never played the outfield as a professional, but Johnson is thinking of ways to get him semi-regular at-bats if he makes the Opening Day roster as a utility player. Johnson hasn't spoken to the 22-year-old about the possibility yet, but he told reporters Tuesday that he likens him to the Rays' Ben Zobrist. Lombardozzi is batting .333 (10-for-30) with a homer and a double so far this spring.

Steve Lombardozzi went 3-for-3 and homered off the Yankees' CC Sabathia on Friday.

Lombardozzi appears set to make the Nationals as a utilityman, and he could have a little fantasy value, especially if Ian Desmond fails to get his act together.

Nationals purchased the contract of INF Steve Lombardozzi from Triple-A Syracuse.

Lombardozzi, 22, batted .309/.360/.430 with eight homers, 52 RBI and 30 stolen bases over 616 plate appearances between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse this season. He is unlikely to get much playing time down the stretch due to the presence of Danny Espinosa, but he could find himself at second base next year if the Nats eventually decide to trade Ian Desmond as part of a deal for a center fielder.
