Matt Hague doubled home the Pirates' only two runs in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Reds.

He tagged Johnny Cueto in the sixth inning. Getting a chance to "string together starts" in the words of Bucs manager Clint Hurdle, Hague has now hit safely in six straight games since being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on May 25, driving in three runs in the process. Meet your new flier in exceptionally deep NL-only leagues.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Friday that Matt Hague will get a chance "to string together starts" at first base.

In turn, Casey McGehee and Garrett Jones will have reduced roles. Hague, 26, was called up from the minors Friday after batting .278/.325/.333 with one homer over his first 144 at-bats with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. There's not a lot of upside here, but he's worth a look in NL-only leagues if given regular at-bats.

Matt Hague will make his major league debut in Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Hague will start at first base and hit fifth. Neil Walker drops to sixth in the order. Jose Tabata replaces Alex Presley at the leadoff slot.

Matt Hague homered in a second straight game Saturday and now has six homers for the spring.

It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for the Pirates to carry four corner infielders in Garrett Jones, Pedro Alvarez, Casey McGehee and Hague, so unless they change their minds and stick Alvarez in Triple-A where he belongs, Hague remains likely to be the odd man out. Of course, if they do drop Alvarez, Hague would immediately become a pretty interesting sleeper in NL-only leagues.
