Nationals designated 1B/3B Matt Skole for assignment.

The move creates a spot on the 40-man roster for Howie Kendrick who was joined the Nationals on Saturday. Skole should pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as depth at Triple-A.

Nationals optioned 1B/3B Matt Skole to Triple-A Syracuse.

Skole was added to the Nationals' 40-man roster this offseason, but it would have taken multiple injuries on the depth chart above him for the 27-year-old corner infielder to crack Washington's Opening Day roster. He'll function as organizational depth for the Nats in 2017.

Nationals purchased the contract of 1B/3B Matt Skole from Triple-A Syracuse.

Skole, 27, batted .244/.337/.437 with 24 homers and 78 RBI for Syracuse this past season. He's now protected from the Rule 5 Draft.

Nationals 1B/3B prospect Matt Skole launched two homers in Tuesday's win for Triple-A Syracuse.

He has five hits in his last two contests. Skole's batting average needs work (.231 across two levels this year) but his power stroke has returned with 19 homers and 80 RBI. The 26-year-old hasn't reached the 20-homer plateau since 2012. Including tonight's contest at Buffalo, he'll have six more games to get there.

Nationals third base prospect Matt Skole corked two homers Tuesday for Double-A Harrisburg.

Skole entered Tuesday's action with just one hit in his previous six games. He hadn't homered twice in a game since 2012 when he was playing for Low-A Hagerstown. Aside from the occasional burst of power, Skole has had a rather unproductive year, striking out 43 times in only 120 at-bats. The 25-year-old is entering his second full season in Double-A.

Nationals prospect Matt Skole, who missed most of the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, put on an impressive batting practice display on Sunday.

The Nats fifth-round selection from the 2011 draft, Skole slashed .291/.426/.559 with 27 homers and 104 RBI in 119 games between Class-A Hagerstown and High-A Potomac in 2012. It's unlikely that he makes an impact at the big league level in 2014, but is certainly a large part of the organization's future.

Nationals prospect Matt Skole underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Wednesday.

It was to his non-throwing arm, so Skole will only miss 3-4 months. The 23-year-old corner infielder was the Nationals' fifth-round pick in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft.

Nationals prospect Matt Skole has been placed on the 7-day minor league disabled list.

Skole suffered an injury to his left arm Friday. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the 23-year-old should return to Double-A Harrisburg when healthy. Baseball America ranked Skole as the Nationals' No. 4 prospect prior to the season.
