Jordy Mercer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, driving in the go-ahead run in Saturday's win over the Giants.

The Pirates tried several times to lose this game, to no avail. They took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, which the Giants would erase with three runs over the next two frames. Then, after the Pirates went back ahead 5-3 via a solo home run by Gregory Polanco in the third inning and a two-run dinger by Francisco Cervelli in the sixth, Pittsburgh again blew their advantage, coughing up singular runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings to knot up the score at 5-5. Enter Jordy Mercer with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. He would drive in the go-ahead run after being plunked by Tony Watson, putting the Pirates up 6-5, a lead which they would not relinquish in the top of the ninth inning. Mercer went 0-for-2 at the plate outside of his brief moment in the sun.

Jody Mercer went 3-for-4 with a homer on Sunday in a rout of the Brewers.

Mercer's homer was the first of the season, and it was a solo shot off of Chase Anderson in the second inning. He now has a line of .239/.282/.354 on the season, and offers very little fantasy value, even in NL-Only leagues. Sunday was a nice day for him, though.

Jordy Mercer struck out all three times he was up Monday against the Orioles.

Mercer is off to a 3-for-19 start, not that it matters much. He might be entering his last season in Pittsburgh, as he'll be a free agent next winter, but he's at no risk of losing playing time as the team's starting shortstop.

Jordy Mercer (knee) is hoping to play in the Pirates' final regular-season series this weekend at Nationals Park.

Mercer has been sidelined since last Saturday with tendinitis in his left knee, an ailment that dates back more than a month. "He wants to finish. He wants to be out there and play," Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday. "We're evaluating literally hourly and daily to help him achieve that goal."

Jordy Mercer finished 3-for-3 with a double, triple, four RBI and two runs scored to help the Pirates outlast the Cardinals 11-6 on Saturday.

An eight-run first inning was highlighted by Mercer's three-run triple, which landed in front of a sliding Dexter Fowler and skipped under his glove, allowing all three runners to come around to score. Just for good measure, Mercer also swatted an RBI double in the fifth. The 31-year-old already has a career high in homers this year, and with one more run batted in -- he's at 58 following Saturday's game -- he'll tie his single-season high in that category, as well. In all, Mercer is batting .255/.326/.406 with a little over a week left in the season.

Jordy Mercer had three of the Pirates' six hits and homered for their only run in Monday's loss to the Cubs.

Mercer's August slump had seen him hit .176/.225/.270 over his first 20 games of the month. He's picking it back up some now, going 8-for-13 over his last four games. The homer tonight was his 12th, tying his career high from 2014.
