Jordy Mercer (ribs) did more physical activity prior to Tuesday's game and said he was "really pleased" with how he felt.

Mercer is dealing with a bruised rib cage as a result of a hit by pitch in Sunday's game. In addition to an X-ray, he's also had an MRI with contrast dye and a cardiac MRI, both of which came back clean. Mercer warmed up prior to Tuesday's game and planned to do some throwing, as well, although he hasn't been cleared to hit yet. Jung Ho Kang will continue to fill in at shortstop until Mercer is ready.

Jordy Mercer is listed as day-to-day after X-rays revealed no fractures in his ribs.

Mercer was hit by a Matt Garza pitch during Sunday's game against the Brewers. He's sore and could get a day of rest on Monday as a precautionary measure, but the shortstop won't require a trip to the disabled list. Jung Ho Kang replaced him on Sunday and would start in his place if he does miss any time.

Jordy Mercer exited Sunday's game versus the Brewers after being hit in the chest area by a pitch.

He was plunked by a Matt Garza offering while squaring around to bunt. Mercer was down on his knees for a while in pain before eventually walking off. He's likely to be sent for X-rays. Jung Ho Kang pinch-ran for him and would be in line to fill in at shortstop should Mercer need to miss some time.

Jordy Mercer went 3-for-3 on Thursday to raise his spring average from .130 to .231.

Mercer also stole a base. With Jung Ho Kang not hitting much of late, Mercer's starting job at shortstop would still seem to be assured. Of course, he's still less interesting than Kang for fantasy purposes.
