Jordy Mercer hit a walkoff RBI double Saturday in the Pirates' 3-2 11-inning win over the Rockies.
It was his only hit of the game, but it was obviously a big one. Mercer's double scored Neil Walker, who sent the game to extras with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Mercer is batting just .250/.290/.360 in 89 games this season for Pittsburgh. Jul 19 - 10:45 PM

Jordy Mercer had a nice day at the dish in Friday's victory over the Phillies, going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.

Mercer plated a pair of runs in the first inning with a single off opposing starter Roberto Hernandez. He added a two-run double in the seventh inning to help put the game out of reach. With the strong effort, the Pirates shortstop is now hitting .243/.283/.359 with 26 RBI on the year.
Jul 4 - 9:05 PM

Jordy Mercer connected for a three-run home run in a loss to the Cubs on Friday.

It was the only offense of the day for the Pirates. Mercer has four home runs this month after hitting just one over the first two months of the season.
Jun 20 - 7:15 PM

Jordy Mercer had a big night at the plate in Friday's rout of the Brewers, going 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI.

Mercer also scored a pair of runs in the contest. He blasted a solo homer off Kyle Lohse in the fifth inning, added an RBI single as part of an eight-run uprising in the sixth, then tacked on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Even with the strong night though, he's hitting a paltry .232/.266/.335 on the season and is an option solely in NL-only formats.
Jun 6 - 10:30 PM

Jordy Mercer continued to swing a hot bat Tuesday, finishing 2-for-4 in a victory in San Diego.

Mercer has gone 8-for-13 (.615) over his last four starts, responding to manager Clint Hurdle's Sunday assertion that Mercer would continue to share shortstop with Clint Barmes until one of them gets hot. Hurdle won't yank him from the lineup until he has an off game, but it's worth noting that Mercer has been consistently inconsistent thus far. He's slashing only .226/.262/.316 on the year, despite the recent success.
Jun 4 - 1:06 AM

Jordy Mercer finished 4-for-5 with a walk, home run, two RBI and four runs scored in Monday's victory in San Diego.

The 6-foot-3 shortstop absolutely obliterated a third inning leadoff homer off Tim Stauffer, and he went on hitting until the lights turned off. His bat, unfortunately, has mostly slept in the season's first few months. Mercer was only batting .190 heading into play on Saturday, but he's gone 6-for-9 over his last two starts to raise his slash to .219/.256/.311. Skipper Clint Hurdle said on Sunday that Mercer will continue to share shortstop duties with Clint Barmes until one of them gets hot. If he has it in him, this is Mercer's chance to seize the job outright.
Jun 3 - 2:19 AM

Jordy Mercer blasted his first home run of the season on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough for the Pirates to overcome the Cardinals.

Mercer finished the night 2-for-5. His two-run shot off Shelby Miller got the Pirates on the board in the fifth inning. He had a chance to play the role of hero later in the ballgame, but grounded into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
May 11 - 11:51 PM

Jordy Mercer (ankle) went 0-for-3 in his return to the lineup on Tuesday night vs. the Reds.

He has an ankle injury and it wasn't enough to keep him down as a pinch-hitter on Monday. Mercer has just nine homers and three steals in his three-year career, so he's not a fantasy option in most leagues.
Apr 23 - 4:10 AM

Jordy Mercer (ankle) struck out as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Reds.

Mercer left Friday's game after being spiked in the ankle and has been limited to pinch-hitting duties ever since. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 22 - 4:37 AM

Jordy Mercer (ankle) is out of the lineup again Sunday.

Mercer was removed from Friday's game after getting spiked in the ankle. He was able to pinch-hit in Saturday's game but said that the area is still "tender." He'll test things out with some lateral movements Sunday before possibly returning to action Monday. Clint Barmes is at shortstop again Sunday.
Apr 20 - 12:06 PM

Jordy Mercer flew out as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's loss to the Brewers.

Mercer was removed from Friday's game after getting spiked in the ankle while trying to turn a double play. He seems likely to be back in the lineup Sunday.
Apr 20 - 3:32 AM

Jordy Mercer (ankle) may be available off the bench Saturday night against the Brewers.

Mercer was removed from Friday's game after getting spiked in the ankle while trying to turn a double play in the fourth inning. He did not suffer a major injury.
Apr 19 - 4:47 PM

Jordy Mercer was removed from Friday's game against the Brewers in the fourth inning due to an ankle injury.

Mercer sustained the injury earlier in the game when he was spiked while trying to turn a double play at second base. No word yet on the extent of the injury or how much time he may miss. Clint Barmes replaced him at shortstop.
Apr 18 - 8:06 PM

Jordy Mercer got a start in the two hole on Thursday and went 0-for-2 against the Yankees.

It was interesting to hear about the Pirates' recent interest in Arizona's Didi Gregorius as a shortstop option. The 27-year-old Mercer looked perfectly legit last year, but he didn't project as a future regular before that and the Pirates still apparently harbor some doubts. Mercer is hitting .231 with no homers in 39 at-bats this spring. He figures to bat eighth most of the time.
Mar 27 - 4:02 PM

Jordy Mercer is starting at shortstop for the Pirates in Friday's Game 2 of the NLDS against the Cardinals.

Mercer gives the Pirates more offense than Clint Barmes, who also struggled in the field in Game 1. The 26-year-old hit .285/.336/.435 with eight home runs over 103 games for the Bucs this season and seized most of the starts at short down the stretch.
