Paul Clemens tossed six innings of one-run ball but took a no-decision in Sunday's loss to Arizona.
Clemens struck out seven and held the Diamondbacks to four hits in a very good outing, but the Padres' offense could manage only two runs on seven hits and Brad Hand gave up a walkoff RBI single to Phil Gosselin in the bottom of the ninth. Clemens closed out the 2016 season with four impressive starts, but he'll end up with an underwhelming 4.04 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 71 1/3 innings overall. Oct 2 - 6:22 PM

Paul Clemens pitched well in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers, surrendering one run on three hits over five innings.

Chase Utley burned Clemens for a solo home run in the third inning, but he kept the scoreboard clean otherwise. This was the 28-year-old right-hander's final start of the 2016 season. He finishes out holding a 4.27 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 46/29 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings (16 appearances, 12 starts).
Sep 28 - 1:46 AM

Paul Clemens kept the Diamondbacks at bay in Tuesday's win, yielding two runs (none earned) on three hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Clemens couldn't quite manage a quality start, but it was a nice start nonetheless. Paul Goldschmidt burned him for a two-run home run in the sixth inning for his lone spot of trouble. The 28-year-old right-hander will carry a 4.48 ERA and 1.56 WHIP into a home start against the Dodgers next time he toes the rubber. As currently scheduled, that would be his last start of the 2016 campaign.
Sep 21 - 2:25 AM

Paul Clemens turned in five innings of shutout ball Monday in a win over the Giants.

Clemens is one of the worst pitchers in the majors, and he was pitching tonight despite being bothered by flu-like symptoms. None of this speaks very well of the Giants offense. Clemens gave up just one extra-base hit, that being a double off the bat of Jeff Samardzija. Clemens improved to 3-5 with a 4.94 ERA.
Sep 13 - 1:24 AM

Paul Clemens struggled mightily in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox, yielding five runs on nine hits over four-plus innings.

Clemens was victimized by back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning. Jackie Bradley whacked a two-run homer in the frame, followed by a solo shot off the bat of Chris Young. It has been a tough season for Clemens, who holds a 5.44 ERA and 1.73 WHIP. He will continue the slow fade toward the end of the campaign in a showdown with the Rockies next time he toes the rubber.
Sep 7 - 1:32 AM

Paul Clemens proved ineffective in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs, surrendering five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Clemens struck out six without walking a batter on the afternoon. The Cubs struck for three of the five runs on his line in the very first inning, with Ben Zobrist's two-run triple serving as the key blow. Through 42 2/3 innings, the 28-year-old right-hander holds a rough 5.06 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. A road start against the Braves shows next on his schedule.
Aug 24 - 6:52 PM

Paul Clemens was serviceable in Thursday's no-decision against the Diamondbacks, surrendering three runs on eight hits over five innings.

Clemens struck out three and walked three on the evening. Jean Segura scooted on home thanks to a wild pitch in the first inning, with Welington Castillo adding an RBI single later in that same frame. The final run on Clemens' line scored on an RBI single by Castillo (him again) in the fifth inning. The 28-year-old right-hander has worked both as a reliever and a starter this season, pitching to a 4.82 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 27/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings. A potentially dicey home start against the Cubs shows next on his schedule.
Aug 19 - 2:15 AM

Paul Clemens yielded three runs over five innings Friday in an 8-6 win over the Mets.

Clemens stuck around just long enough for his second win of the season. He fanned three and walked three, with the only damage coming on a two-run homer from Travis d’Arnaud in the second inning and an RBI single by Jay Bruce in the fifth. Clemens has posted a 4.73 ERA and 24/17 K/BB ratio in 32 1/3 innings this season while bouncing back and forth from the bullpen to the rotation. He’s not fantasy relevant.
Aug 12 - 10:38 PM

Paul Clemens gave up three runs -- two earned -- in 4 1/3 innings and took a no-decision as the Padres beat the Phillies 9-7 on Saturday.

He would have been credited with a win if he had recorded two more outs. He gave up four hits without walking anybody. He fanned two batters in the short outing. He has a 4.61 ERA with 21 strikeouts and 14 walks in 27 1/3 innings. The 28-year-old has bounced around between the bullpen and the rotation this year.
Aug 7 - 1:19 AM

Paul Clemens was forced to leave Sunday's start against the Reds with tightness in his lower back.

The right-hander had been pitching fairly well, allowing just two runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings while striking out five. He's considered day-to-day.
Jul 31 - 6:27 PM

Paul Clemens was pulled from Sunday's start against the Reds in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury.

It's unclear at the moment what exactly the issue is, though it may have something to do with his back. Prior to departing, Clemens had surrendered two runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings of work. All of that damage came on a two-run homer by Jose Peraza in the second inning.
Jul 31 - 5:56 PM

Paul Clemens pitched decently in a spot start against the Cardinals in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, allowing three runs on four hits over his five innings.

The right-hander walked two and struck out five in the contest. All of the damage against him was inflicted by Jedd Gyorko, who belted a solo homer and a two-run shot. He'll likely head back to his long relief role in the Padres bullpen after this one.
Jul 20 - 11:24 PM

Padres claimed RHP Paul Clemens off waivers from the Marlins.

Clemens recently made two starts with the Marlins, giving up seven runs on 11 hits (including five homers) over 10 innings. It's unclear how he'll be used by his new team.
Jun 28 - 2:21 PM

Paul Clemens allowed four runs over five innings to earn his first win of the season Saturday against the Cubs.

Clemens was far from good, walking five while allowing two home runs among his four hits, but he was better than his counterpart, John Lackey. Clemens has now given up five home runs in his two starts, posting a 6.30 ERA and 1.90 WHIP in 10 innings of work. He'll take on the Braves on Friday.
Jun 25 - 8:26 PM

Paul Clemens allowed three runs over five innings in his season debut against the Rockies on Monday.

The final line was actually pretty friendly to the 28-year-old, as the Rockies hit three home runs, all with the bases empty, among Clemens' seven hits allowed. He also walked three and struck out just two. Clemens owned a 4.30 ERA at Triple-A New Orleans before his promotion, so he's not much to look at fantasy-wise, and a date with the Cubs on Saturday won't help that curb appeal.
