Paul Clemens left Monday's appearance with a right pinkie injury.
Clemens was struck by a comebacker and appeared to dislocate the finger, but the Astros' trainer popped it back in place and he stayed in to face one more batter. The club reconsidered after that, though, and decided to remove him. Clemens saved the bullpen with 5 1/3 scoreless relief frames after Erik Bedard lasted only 1/3 of an inning. Apr 16 - 12:21 AM

Astros recalled RHP Paul Clemens from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Acquired in last year's Michael Bourn deal, Clemens had a disappointing first full season in the Astros' organization, posting a 5.78 ERA over 27 starts between Double- and Triple-A. He'll return to Triple-A next year.

Astros optioned RHP Paul Clemens to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Not quite the reward he was hoping for after striking out six over four scoreless innings Wednesday against the Cardinals, but Clemens was Triple-A bound all along. The 24-year-old right-hander was ranked as the organization's No. 5 prospect over the winter by Baseball America and should get a look at the major league level once the Astros decide to give up on some of their veterans. The Astros also sent Jonathan Singleton, Lance Pendleton, Jake Goebbert, Brandon Barnes, Diory Hernandez, Rene Garcia and Chris Wallace to minor league camp.

Paul Clemens came out of the pen to strike out six in four scoreless innings Wednesday in the Astros' 4-3 defeat of the Cardinals.

Clemens, who was picked up from the Braves in the Michael Bourn deal, has put himself into the rotation mix with five scoreless innings so far. The Astros will probably send him to Triple-A so that can sort through some of their older options first, but it's not the given it seemed to be a few weeks ago.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Paul Clemens from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Acquired from the Braves in the Michael Bourn deal, Clemens posted a 3.81 ERA and 125/62 K/BB ratio over 144 innings between Double- and Triple-A in 2011. He should be given a shot to compete for a rotation spot in spring training but will likely wind up back at Triple-A to start the year.

Astros acquired RHP Paul Clemens, LHP Brett Oberholtzer, OF Jordan Schafer and RHP Juan Abreu from the Braves for OF Michael Bourn and cash.

Clemens, 23, was a seventh-round draft pick back in 2008. He's posted a quality 3.73 ERA and 93/44 K/BB ratio in 108 2/3 innings this season at Double-A Mississippi, but projects as nothing more than a mid-rotation starter. Houston failed to get a top prospect in the trade.
