Stephen Vogt socked a two-run homer Friday against the Yankees.
His ninth-inning blast off Jonathan Holder provided the A’s with some valuable late insurance. Vogt has been a disappointment on the whole this season, but he has perked up at the plate over the past few days. He’s batting .304 (7-for-23) with two homers, a double, six RBI, and six walks over his last seven games May 26 - 10:59 PM

Stephen Vogt went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Vogt doubled home a run against Chase De Jong in the fourth inning. It was his sixth double of the season. The veteran backstop has struggled to a .229/.272/.375 triple-slash across 99 at-bats, but has shown vague signs of life of late, with five hits in his last three games, including a home run on Monday.
May 17 - 1:47 AM

Stephen Vogt hit his second homer and walked Monday against the Mariners.

The A's sent Bruce Maxwell down rather than keep three catchers any longer, but Vogt's margin for error should be pretty small at this point; he hasn't hit since the first half of last year and he doesn't make up for it with top-notch defense. The A's should just be hoping he plays well enough to amass some trade value in July.
May 16 - 1:42 AM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' lineup Saturday against the Rangers.

Vogt is in the midst of a 1-for-13 slump and the A's are giving him the night off to clear his head. Bruce Maxwell will start behind the plate and bat eighth against Texas right-hander Nick Martinez.
May 13 - 5:28 PM

Stephen Vogt went 0-for-4 as Oakland's designated hitter in Friday's loss.

Vogt's bat doesn't seem very valuable in the catcher's spot these days, and there's just not much reason to DH him when he needs a day off. He's batting .211/.228/.342 with five RBI in 76 at-bats right now, and he didn't do much in the second half of last year, either.
May 6 - 2:28 AM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' lineup Thursday against the Angels.

He's just getting a breather. Josh Phegley will spell him behind the plate and eighth against Halos right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Vogt hasn't done much this year, hitting just .222 with one homer and three RBI over 54 at-bats.
Apr 27 - 6:57 PM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Saturday.

Vogt is taking a seat in favor of Josh Phegley with left-hander Ariel Miranda on the hill for the Mariners. He's off to a slow start offensively, hitting just .233/.261/.395 with a homer and three RBI in 43 at-bats.
Apr 22 - 12:59 PM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' lineup Thursday against the Mariners.

Vogt didn't start Wednesday's game either but is listed on the lineup card as a bench option, which implies that he's healthy. Josh Phegley will catch for right-hander Cesar Valdez. Vogt has hit .244 with one homer in the early going.
Apr 20 - 7:26 PM

Stephen Vogt is out of the A's lineup Wednesday.

Vogt went hitless in his two trips to the plate on Tuesday and is batting just .244 with a .262 on-base percentage through 42 total plate appearances this season. The right-handed-hitting Josh Phegley will start at catcher and bat sixth Wednesday versus Rangers left-hander Martin Perez.
Apr 19 - 12:52 PM

Stephen Vogt was hitless in two trips to the plate Tuesday versus the Rangers.

Vogt got the start in the designated hitter spot for the second straight day as Bruce Maxwell did the catching again. A's manager Bob Melvin elected to pinch-hit for him in the sixth inning, and it paid off when Ryon Healy delivered an RBI single. Vogt is hitting only .244/.262/.415 so far.
Apr 19 - 1:10 AM

Stephen Vogt is absent from the Athletics' lineup Sunday.

It's a routine day off for Vogt and also sitting Yonder Alonso. They have Josh Phegley catching and Adam Rosales in left field, with Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter and Ryon Healy covering first base.
Apr 9 - 11:48 AM

Stephen Vogt went 1-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.

Vogt's double was the only extra-base hit that the A's secured in the 5-0 loss. He swatted a career-high 30 two-baggers last season. The veteran backstop holds some value in two-catcher formats, but those in traditional mixed leagues probably will not have much use for him in 2017.
Apr 6 - 1:53 AM

Stephen Vogt drilled two hits Wednesday in the Athletics’ Cactus League win over the White Sox.

He plated two with a first-inning double and kept the engine running with a leadoff single in the third. Vogt ended the day by grounding out in his last two at-bats. The 31-year-old has had a decent spring, hitting .324 over 34 at-bats. He’s slated to split catching duties with Josh Phegley but should see time at DH as well.
Mar 22 - 8:02 PM

Stephen Vogt has been held out of Cactus League action the last few days due to a heel issue.

But he is scheduled to DH on Tuesday and return to catching Thursday. Vogt should be fine for the start of the 2017 regular season.
Mar 13 - 12:13 PM

Athletics and C Stephen Vogt avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.965 million contract.

Vogt made the All-Star team for the second straight season in 2016, hitting .251/.305/.406 with 14 dingers for the A's. He was eligible for arbitration for the first time.
