Athletics manager Bob Melvin has spoken to Stephen Vogt about the possibility of batting leadoff next season.
Vogt isn't fast and has a career .314 on-base percentage, although he does usually see a good number of pitches. A lot can happen between now an spring training, of course, so there's a pretty decent chance Vogt won't be an option for the spot by that point. He'd be all for it, though. "I’d love it," said Vogt. "I feel like I’m someone who can adapt to any role I’m put in. If my job is to see pitches, get on base, I can adapt my game to do that." Oct 2 - 9:21 AM

Stephen Vogt finished 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to lead the Athletics to a 14-5 win over the Royals on Thursday.

Vogt tallied a two-RBI double in the third inning and collected an RBI with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth, but those were just the precursor to his two-run homer in the sixth. The big offensive night gives him 48 RBI and 12 homers this year, and Vogt is hitting .261/.310/.418 overall.
Sep 15 - 11:12 PM

Stephen Vogt went 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and two runs scored as the Athletics crushed the Royals 16-3 on Monday.

Vogt came in just 5-for-31 this month, so he needed this. It's his first three-hit game since June 24, and he scored as many runs tonight as in his previous 19 games combined.
Sep 12 - 11:10 PM

Stephen Vogt finished 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against the White Sox on Friday.

Vogt slugged a solo homer off James Shields in the fifth inning before knocking home another run with a double in the sixth. The 31-year-old is quite a ways behind his power pace from last season and hasn’t shown nearly as much patience. He’s batting .272/.318/.433 with 10 homers and 36 RBI through 98 games on the year.
Aug 19 - 11:05 PM

Stephen Vogt went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk against the Orioles on Monday.

Vogt had just one RBI in 15 games (13 starts) before driving in two runs tonight. He hadn't scored a run since July 19.
Aug 9 - 12:48 AM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Indians.

Nothing more than a routine day off for the hard-hitting backstop. Bruce Maxwell will start behind the dish for the A's and bat ninth against Josh Tomlin and the Tribe.
Jul 30 - 3:10 PM

Athletics activated C/1B Stephen Vogt from the family medical leave list.

Vogt has been away from the team since Saturday. The A's optioned Matt McBride to Triple-A Nashville to clear a spot for his return.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Vogt will step into a great match-up in his first game back, taking on Nick Martinez in a very hitter friendly environment. The A's backstop owns a .349 wOBA, .193 ISO and 32.3 hard% against RHP on the road, while Martinez has allowed a .464 wOBA to LH bats in a limited sample size this season. Martinez is not a capable big league arm and he should struggle against a disciplined A's lineup, making them one of the stronger team stacks of the night.
Jul 26 - 1:51 PM

Stephen Vogt is expected to rejoin the Athletics on Tuesday.

Vogt was placed on the family medical leave list on Saturday, but he's back with the team Monday and will officially be activated on Tuesday.
Jul 25 - 6:05 PM

Athletics placed C/1B Stephen Vogt on the family emergency medical leave list.

Vogt has a family matter that he needs to tend to for a couple of days, so the Athletics brought up Bruce Maxwell from Triple-A to help handle the load behind the plate.
Jul 23 - 3:06 PM

Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI against the Blue Jays on Friday.

Maybe Vogt will have a little chip on his shoulder after getting selected for the All-Star Game as Oakland's only rep and then being held out of the game by Ned Yost. It's just the second time this year that he's knocked in three runs in a game.
Jul 16 - 1:47 AM

Stephen Vogt went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored as the Athletics edged the Astros 3-2 on Saturday.

Vogt provided most of the A's offense on the day, hitting a solo dong in second inning and adding an RBI single in the third. The home run was his seventh of the year, giving him 27 RBI and 30 runs scored. The 31-year-old is hitting a respectable .277/.320/.442 overall.
Jul 9 - 11:07 PM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics' lineup Sunday.

It's a routine day of rest. Matt McBride is catching. The A's also have Tyler Ladendorf at second base in place of Jed Lowrie.

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.

He'll get a breather against opposing southpaw Jeff Locke. Josh Phegley will start behind the dish for the A's and bat eight on Friday.
Jul 1 - 6:42 PM

Stephen Vogt went 3-for-5 and hit his sixth homer Friday against the Angels.

Vogt is hitting .286 with two homers, a triple and five doubles in 56 at-bats this month. Unfortunately, all that has been good for is just four RBI and five runs scored. That's what playing for the A's gets you.
Jun 25 - 1:53 AM

He'll sit for the second straight day with another left-hander, this time Cesar Ramos, on the mound. Josh Phegley will start behind the plate and catch Sean Manaea.
