Stephen Vogt has elected free agency.
Vogt was outrighted by Milwaukee off of the 40-man roster immediately after being reinstated off the 60-man disabled list for is shoulder injury. He's hopeful to play in 2019, but the 33-year-old backstop may find the market tough; particularly since he's unlikely to be ready for the start of the season. Nov 1 - 7:28 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) said he's hoping to play in 2019.

Vogt underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder last week, but it was less invasive than anticipated and shouldn't threaten his career as long as the rehab process goes smoothly. "Obviously, there is a lot of hard work ahead of me," Vogt said, "but there is some hope in the future that I can regain full strength and be back." The 33-year-old catcher is arbitration-eligible this winter, though the Brewers figure to non-tender him.
May 22 - 8:37 PM

Stephen Vogt will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder this week.

And it could possibly be a career-threatener for the 33-year-old catcher, who made back-to-back All-Star teams with the A's in 2015 and 2016. Vogt injured his shoulder in Brewers camp this spring and then suffered a major setback last week while on a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Biloxi.
May 15 - 8:25 PM

Stephen Vogt could be facing season-ending shoulder surgery.

Vogt suffered a right shoulder strain in the middle of spring training and then experienced a significant setback last week while on a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Biloxi. He'll seek a second opinion before anything is made official. This could be a career-threatener for the 33-year-old catcher, who has already undergone major shoulder surgery once before.
May 8 - 4:36 PM

Brewers transferred C Stephen Vogt from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Vogt suffered a setback with his right shoulder last week while playing in a rehab game with Double-A Biloxi. He's eligible to return from the 60-day DL in late May but might not be ready at that point.
May 8 - 4:13 PM

Stephen Vogt has been pulled off his rehab assignment after having a setback with his injured right shoulder.

Vogt is headed back to Milwaukee to undergo tests and the Brewers won't know how big of a setback it is until those results are in. We're surely not going to see him for a while even if the news is relatively good. Manny Pina will continue to operate as Milwaukee's regular catcher.
May 6 - 10:55 AM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) went 1-for-2 with a home run in his rehab debut Wednesday with Double-A Biloxi.

Vogt basically missed all of spring training due to a right shoulder strain, so he figures to need 30-40 more minor league at-bats. Manny Pina and Jett Bandy will continue to serve as the Brewers' catching duo. Bandy could get shipped out when Vogt is ready.
May 3 - 9:39 AM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Biloxi on Wednesday.

Vogt has dealt with a strained right shoulder since late February but has made the necessary progress to be cleared for game action. He figures to need a decent number of rehab games considering how much time he's missed.
Apr 30 - 6:08 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) will head to extended spring training on Wednesday.

If all goes well in Arizona, he should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment sometime next week. Vogt has been sidelined since spring training because of a right shoulder strain and will likely need at least 25-35 minor league at-bats.
Apr 24 - 5:31 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) hopes to have a timetable before the end of the Brewers' April 16-22 homestand.

Vogt has been out all season with a right shoulder strain but has been throwing and hitting without any pain lately. A rehab assignment should be around the corner. The Brewers could use him with Manny Pina (calf) out.
Apr 16 - 5:26 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) has been encouraged by the progress he's made with his throwing program in recent days.

"I needed some sort of positive feedback and I got it," he said. Vogt still hasn't done any throwing from behind the plate, so his return is not imminent. Manny Pina has been the Brewers' main catcher in the early going this season.
Apr 9 - 5:54 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) played catch for the first time on Saturday since being sidelined with his right shoulder strain.

Vogt said he felt great afterwards. He'll repeat the process each of the next two days as he continues to progress toward a minor league rehab assignment. Manny Pina and Jett Bandy will continue to handle the catching duties in his absence.
Apr 7 - 1:34 PM

Stephen Vogt (shoulder) has made progress and will start throwing as soon as later this week.

Vogt will either start throwing later this week or the beginning of the next as he's been cleared by doctors to begin a program. It's a step in the right direction for the backstop, but he's still out indefinitely, and likely won't be able to return until next month at the earliest.
Apr 4 - 7:05 PM

Brewers placed C Stephen Vogt on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to March 26 with a right shoulder strain.

There's no update yet on when Vogt will return, and the left-handed hitting backstop will likely miss the first few weeks of the season, at minimum.
Mar 28 - 9:47 PM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Stephen Vogt (shoulder) will open the year on the disabled list.

There had been talk that the Brewers could release Vogt and not pay him the $3.065 million owed, but he will in fact go to the disabled list. It's unknown at this time how long the former Oakland backstop will be out, but we do know that he'll miss at least the first week or so of the regular season while his shoulder strain heals.
