White Sox selected outfielder Carlos Tocci from the Phillies with the fourth pick in the Rule 5 draft and traded him to the Rangers.
Tocci, who was signed out of Venezuela at age 16, hit .307/.362/.398 as a 21-year-old in Double-A last season. He's not going to develop much power, so he's probably not a future regular. Still, he could be a nice reserve outfielder in time and he's polished enough that it wouldn't be too difficult to carry him now. Thu, Dec 14, 2017 09:42:00 AM

Phillies prospect OF Carlos Tocci was promoted to High-A Clearwater from Low-A Lakewood on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old center fielder is moving up a level after batting .321/.387/.423 with 18 extra-base hits and 14 steals in 59 games for Lakewood. Tocci is probably thrilled to be out of the South Atlantic League, where he posted a .246/.330/.299 batting line in 1,258 plate appearances (302 games) over parts of the last three seasons. Signed as a 16-year-old in 2012 out of Venezuela, Tocci has always required considerable projection given his age, lack of physical strength and the fact he’s received perennially aggressive assignments from the Phillies. Therefore, it’s not particularly concerning that it took him 2 1/2 seasons to master the South Atlantic League.

Phillies outfield prospect Carlos Tocci went 3-for-4 with two doubles for Low-A Lakewood on Saturday.

The 18-year old Tocci was hitting .234/.287/.294 at the end of June, but has been on fire in July, hitting .362/.400/.532 with six doubles and one triple to raise his season line to .252/.303/.327. He has hits in 12 of his last 13 games. Tocci has the potential to be an elite outfielder, but his present lack of strength is his primary issue. If he can get stronger and hit for more power, he could reach his ceiling.

Phillies prospect outfielder Carlos Tocci went 0-for-4 on Wednesday night for Low-A Lakewood, and is hitting just .230/.270/.288 with 34 strikeouts in 35 games.

He is hitting just .042/.080/.042 with one single and a hit by pitch over his past six games. The 18-year old Tocci is spending his second consecutive season in Lakewood, so he still has a lot of time to figure it out.

Phillies outfield prospect Carlos Tocci went 3-for-5 on Friday for Low-A Lakewood, bringing his season line up to .271/.271/.305.

It was Tocci's second consecutive three-hit night, and he has gone 11-for-19 over his past four games. Tocci has only hit two extra base hits in 2014 (both doubles), has yet to take a walk, and has struck out 14 times in 13 games. He is spending his second season in Lakewood, but he is the same age as many high school seniors.

Phillies agreed to terms with Venezuelan outfielder Carlos Tocci.

As expected. According to Ben Badler of Baseball America, the 16-year-old outfielder will receive $759,000, which is one of the highest bonuses the organization has ever given an international amateur free agent. Tocci is highly-regarded for his plus-speed and hitting potential, but is obviously a few years away from making an impact.

According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, the Phillies are "extremely close" to an agreement with Venezuelan outfielder Carlos Tocci.

The deal could be finalized this week when Tocci turns 16. He is expected to receive $750,000, one of the largest signing bonuses the Phillies have ever given a Latin American player. Highly-regarded for his speed and hitting potential, Tocci checks in at 6-foot-2 and 160 pounds.
