Angels claimed INF Thomas Field off waivers from the Twins.

The Twins had just claimed Field off waivers from the Rockies earlier this month. The 25-year-old has been mostly been at Triple-A the last couple years, where he batted .246/.315/.400 with eight homers this past season. He could compete for a bench job in spring training.

He's taking the roster spot of Marco Scutaro, who was dealt to the Giants. Field has batted .254/.324/.411 for Colorado Springs this season and will provide infield depth.

Rockies purchased the contract of SS Thomas Field from Double-A Tulsa.

The Rockies need some shortstop depth with Troy Tulowitzki dealing with a hip issue and Chris Nelson also banged up. Field batted .271/.357/.439 with 17 homers and nine steals over 472 at-bats with Tulsa this season. He profiles as a utilityman over the long haul.
