Braves optioned RHP Luis Avilan to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The 25-year-old owns a 4.85 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 18/15 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 innings with the Braves this season. He'll try to right the ship in the minor leagues before returning later in the season.
Jul 19 - 1:47 PM

Luis Avilan notched his third win in relief despite giving up five runs in the eighth Monday against the Phillies.

If you made Avilan a $1 pick in your NL-only league, be thankful for the wins, but drop him as soon as you can. He's just not the same guy who was so effective in a setup role last year.
Apr 14 - 11:28 PM

Luis Avilan returned to action Thursday and allowed a run in two-thirds of an inning.

Avilan left Tuesday's game with a left hamstring cramp.
Apr 10 - 11:22 PM

Luis Avilan (hamstring) expects to be available to pitch Wednesday.

Avilan has a left hamstring issue, but it's just a cramp and he says it's no big deal. The left-hander is unscored upon in his four plate appearances this season.
Apr 8 - 11:07 PM

Luis Avilan has been diagnosed with a left hamstring cramp.

Avilan was injured when he got out of the way of a broken bat during Tuesday's game. If he does indeed just have a cramp, he could avoid the disabled list. However, Avilan also dealt with left hamstring issues last season and during spring training.
Apr 8 - 9:54 PM

Luis Avilan left Tuesday's game against the Mets with an apparent injury.

Avilan tweaked something as he got out of the way of a broken bat. He limped off the field and was seen later limping in the clubhouse. The Braves losing the left-handed reliever would be a big blow to their bullpen.
Apr 8 - 9:35 PM

Luis Avilan pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday to maintain his perfect spring ERA.

Avilan has yet to allow a run in 6 2/3 innings this spring. The left-hander should again be one of the NL's best middle relievers/setup men this year.
Mar 19 - 5:10 PM

Luis Avilan (hamstring) could be available on Saturday.

Avilan hasn't pitched in a couple of days because of mild left hamstring soreness. It was never a big concern.

Luis Avilan (hamstring) jogged and threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

He had no issues with his left hamstring. It looked bad when Avilan was injured on Tuesday, but it looks like he'll avoid the DL. Consider him day-to-day.

Luis Avilan had issues with his left hamstring while jogging before Thursday's game.

The Braves will wait at least three more days before making a decision on whether to play Avilan, who hurt the hamstring on Tuesday, on the disabled list. For what it's worth, Avilan says he feels "so much better" than he did when he was initially injured.

Luis Avilan (hamstring) does not think that he will require a trip to the disabled list.

Avilan left Tuesday's game with a left hamstring injury, but he believes it was only a cramp. The Braves have yet to make a decision on his status.

Luis Avilan left Tuesday's game against the Royals with a left hamstring injury.

Avilan suffered the injury in the ninth inning while throwing a pitch. He immediately fell to the ground in a ton of pain and had to be carted off. A trip to the disabled list is forthcoming.

Luis Avilan was charged with three runs in his inning Thursday versus the Nationals.

Avilan should make the Braves if they carry their seven best relievers, but they choose to keep out-of-options righty Anthony Varvaro and send down either Avilan or Cody Gearrin. If they go that route, Avilan is in serious danger, given that he's currently sporting a 5.79 ERA and Gearrin is at 2.00.
Fri, Mar 22, 2013 12:12:00 AM

Luis Avilan struck out two in a perfect inning of relief Monday versus the Mets.

He's allowed two hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings this spring. We would have liked to have seen Avilan given a crack at a rotation spot after Randall Delgado was traded, but the Braves have opted to leave him in the pen. Even though he'll hardly be a candidate for saves, he could have a little value in NL-only leagues anyway.
