Reds signed RHP Deunte Heath to a minor league contract.
The 31-year-old hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the 2013 season with the White Sox. After a pair of seasons in Japan, he spent the 2016 season pitching in the Mexican League, where he posted a 3.11 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 51/11 K/BB ratio over 46 1/3 innings. Heath has signed a contract with a Nippon Professional Baseball team. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 3.22 ERA in 64 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte.

Heath posted a 4.73 ERA but struck out 117 over 102 2/3 innings while appearing in 30 games -- 16 starts -- for Charlotte this season. The 26-year-old will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
