Nestor Molina left Monday's start at Double-A Birmingham with a shoulder injury.

A tough break for Molina, who is trying to bounce back this season after putting up a 4.26 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 2012. It's not known at this point how severe the ailment is.

White Sox GM Rick Hahn said that 2013 will be a "rebuilding year" for Nestor Molina.

Molina came over in the Sergio Santos deal last offseason and struggled with injuries and effectiveness in 2012. Now that he's finally healthy, the 24-year-old will focus on getting his career back on track. Molina posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.48 WHIP at the Double-A level this past season.

An MRI on White Sox pitching prospect Nestor Molina's right elbow revealed only inflammation, and he's expected to miss just 1-2 starts.

Good to hear. Molina has really struggled this season between Double- and Triple-A, posting a 5.01 ERA and 63/20 K/BB ratio, but he's one of the few decent pitching prospects in the system.

White Sox prospect right-hander Nestor Molina was placed on the disabled list with Double-A Birmingham due to an elbow injury.

The White Sox have yet to make an official announcement on his status, but Spanish-language reports have indicated that he is dealing with elbow tendinitis. We should know more after results of an MRI are made available. Molina, who was acquired from the Blue Jays during the offseason in the Sergio Santos deal, has a 5.01 ERA and 63/20 K/BB ratio over 14 starts and one relief appearance this season between Double- and Triple-A.

Molina was promoted to the Triple-A level on Monday, but it was apparently only for spot-start duty. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 3.72 ERA and 25/5 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings with Double-A Birmingham this season and could make his way to the major league roster later this summer.

White Sox optioned RHP Nestor Molina and LHP Jose Quintana to Double-A Birmingham; optioned RHPs Anthony Carter, Simon Castro, Deunte Heath and Jhan Marinez, LHPs Pedro Hernandez, Charlie Leesman and Donnie Veal and INF Ozzie Martinez to Triple-A Charlotte.

The mass exodus also included catcher Michael Blanke, infielder Tyler Kuhn and outfielders Jared Mitchell and Trayce Thompson, who were reassigned to minor league camp. Molina, who was acquired from the Blue Jays in December for closer Sergio Santos, is the biggest name of the bunch. The 23-year-old right-hander posted a 2.21 ERA and 148/16 K/BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings last season between High-A and Double-A and could find himself in the majors at some point in 2012.

Nestor Molina fared much better in his second outing of the spring Friday, allowing just one hit while striking out two in two scoreless innings of work against the Cubs.

Molina got shelled to the tune of five runs and seven hits in just 1 1/3 innings by the Dodgers on Monday. Likely to begin the year in Double-A, it's not out of the question that Molina could be in the rebuilding South Siders' bullpen by mid-season.

White Sox acquired RHP Nestor Molina from the Blue Jays for RHP Sergio Santos.

It's nice to see the Pale Hose make an effort to improve the talent pool in their farm system. Molina, 22, registered a sparkling 2.21 ERA and 148/16 K/BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings this past year between Single-A and Double-A. He's quickly rounding into an elite pitching prospect and should continue improving in the White Sox system.
