Ariel Pena couldn't supply much length in Friday's loss to the Cubs, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Pena struck out six and walked two on the evening. Anthony Rizzo was the biggest thorn in his side over his 4 1/3 innings of work, as the Cubs slugger burned him for a solo home run in the fourth inning and a two-run single in the fifth. In 27 1/3 innings (five starts), he's allowed 14 runs on 23 hits with a 27/14 K/BB ratio. He ends the season holding a 4.28 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Oct 2 - 11:45 PM

Ariel Pena yielded three runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Friday.

Making his fourth major league start, Pena gave up one run in the third inning and two in the fourth. He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out five batters. It wasn't a great outing, but it was good enough to keep the Brewers in the ballgame. Pena owns a 3.91 ERA and 21/12 K/BB ratio in 23 innings this season and has yet to go further than five innings in a start. He lines up to face the Cubs for his final start of the season next week.

Ariel Pena held down the Reds over his five innings of work on Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits in the win.

Pena struck out five and walked three on the afternoon. Jay Bruce burned him for a solo home run in the second inning and Tucker Barnhart followed up with an RBI single in the fourth, but the 26-year-old right-hander otherwise kept the scoreboard clean during his five innings of work. Through 18 innings (four starts), he's allowed seven runs with a 16/11 K/BB ratio. While he holds a decent 3.50 ERA, he's yet to last longer than five innings in a start. He'll try for that mark once more in his upcoming road tilt with the Cardinals.
Sep 20 - 5:38 PM

Ariel Pena limited the Cardinals to one run over five innings in Tuesday's no-decision.

Pena wasn't untouchable, yielding four hits and three walks, but he did just enough to keep the Cards from breaking through. His five strikeouts in the contest helped him on that front. He's now allowed two runs or fewer in each of his first three major league appearances, owning a 3.46 ERA and 1.31 WHIP through 13 innings. Pena will square off with the Reds on Sunday.
Sep 15 - 11:30 PM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Thursday that Ariel Pena will draw another start on Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Pena allowed a pair of runs over five innings in his first big league start against the Marlins on Wednesday. It wouldn't be surprising to see him stick in the rotation for the remainder of the season so that the team can get a good look at him heading into next year.
Sep 10 - 9:46 PM

Making his first major league start, Ariel Pena allowed two runs over five innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Pena, a product of the Zack Greinke trade with the Angels three years back, debuted in relief for the Brewers on Saturday. He's not assured additional starts, but there's a good chance he'll get at least one or two more as the Brewers try to decide whether he'll be worth keeping on the 40-man roster this winter.
Sep 9 - 10:59 PM

Ariel Pena will start for the Brewers on Wednesday against the Marlins.

And then Wily Peralta is going to start Thursday in Pittsburgh. Pena, 26, registered a 4.46 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 82 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A prior to his callup on September 4. The right-hander shouldn't be considered as a fantasy streaming option.
Sep 7 - 11:30 AM

Brewers purchased the contract of RHP Ariel Pena from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Pena, 26, has posted a 4.46 ERA with 83 strikeouts over 82 2/3 innings for Colorado Springs this season. He'll pitch in relief and will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
Sep 4 - 1:24 PM

Brewers sent RHP Ariel Pena outright to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Brewers pitching prospect Ariel Pena is dealing with a right elbow injury.

The Brewers aren't overly concerned at the moment, but they'll know more about Pena's status when he's re-examined after a month-long shutdown period. Pena posted a 4.56 ERA and 140/75 K/BB ratio over 128 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.

Ariel Pena has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with Triple-A Nashville to a right forearm injury.

Pena was struck out his forearm with a comeback during his most recent outing on Saturday. Fortunately, he managed to escape without a fracture. As of now, he's only expected to miss one start.

Brewers optioned RHP Ariel Pena to Triple-A Nashville.

His cut comes as no surprise. One of the pieces the Brewers got in the Zack Greinke deal, Pena held a 3.73 ERA over 27 Double-A starts last season. He needs to improve his control before he'll be considered for a call-up.

Brewers optioned RHP Ariel Pena and LHP Miguel De Los Santos to Double-A Huntsville.

Pena is one of the Brewers' better pitching prospects, but he didn't have a chance to break camp with the big club. De Los Santos is expected to be out until July with shoulder issues.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said prospect right-hander Ariel Pena has received his visa in the Dominican Republic and is expected to arrive in camp on Wednesday.

Pena, who was acquired from the Angels last July in the Zack Greinke deal, posted a 3.93 ERA and 140/65 K/BB ratio over 146 2/3 innings at the Double-A level in 2012. The 23-year-old has struggled with his command, so many believe he'll end up in the bullpen in the long run. Baseball America ranked him as the organization's No. 22 prospect over the winter.
