Indians acquired RHP Dan Otero from the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.
Otero had been designated for assignment last week. The veteran right-hander held a 6.75 ERA over 41 appearances for the A's last season but put up a 2.01 ERA in his previous two seasons. He has a decent chance to bounce back as a middle relief option. Fri, Dec 18, 2015 12:18:00 PM

Phillies designated RHP Dan Otero for assignment.

Otero, who was claimed off waivers from the Athletics in early November, was moved to create a spot on the 40-man roster for the recent additions from the Astros in the Ken Giles trade. There's a decent chance that another team will be willing to take a chance on Otero despite his poor 2015 season.

Phillies claimed RHP Dan Otero off waivers from the Athletics.

Otero, 30, had a rough 6.75 ERA over 41 appearances this season with Oakland. However, he had a 2.01 ERA in his previous two seasons and induces a ton of ground balls. He's a nice gamble for Philadelphia's bullpen.

Athletics recalled RHP Dan Otero from Triple-A Nashville.

Otero was just option to Triple-A last week, but he's back with the major league rosters expanding on Tuesday. In 30 appearances earlier this season, he held a tough 7.08 ERA. He'll try to redeem himself this month, assuming the A's actually toss him out there for work.

Athletics optioned RHP Dan Otero to Triple-A Nashville.

The A's sent him down to make room for closer Sean Doolittle, who is returning from a shoulder injury. Otero has posted an ugly 7.08 ERA in 30 appearances, though he could get another shot with the A's when rosters expand on September 1.

After two outstanding seasons in the A's bullpen in 2013 and 2014, Otero posted a troublesome 5.79 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 24/6 K/BB ratio in his first 32 2/3 innings this season, prompting his demotion to Triple-A. He'll work in middle relief initially upon his return.

Athletics recalled RHP Dan Otero from Triple-A Sacramento.

No word yet on the corresponding move, but since he was only optioned three days ago, it means that an Athletic (perhaps Sean Doolittle or John Jaso) is headed to the disabled list.

Athletics optioned RHP Dan Otero to Triple-A Sacramento.

Otero holds a 1.96 ERA over 89 relief appearances for the A's over the last two seasons, so it's an unexpected move. However, it should be a short-term one, with Otero returning on September 1. Craig Gentry (hand) will be activated from the DL on Friday to take Otero's spot on the roster.

Danny Otero pitched a scoreless 12th and notched his seventh relief victory of the year Friday as Oakland edged Toronto 1-0.

The winning run scored on a Melky Cabrera error in the bottom of the 12th. Otero is the first reliever to seven wins this year, having overtaken Bryan Morris of the Pirates and now the Marlins. The sinkerballer has a 2.02 ERA, even though he's struck out just 25 in 53 1/3 innings.

Dan Otero earned his first career save on Thursday, hurling a scoreless ninth inning against the Red Sox in a 4-2 win.

Otero coughed up a one-out double to Dustin Pedroia, but he elicited no further drama. "Were you guys nervous?" Otero asked the ensembled media after the game. Since Sean Doolittle had pitched in two straight days, the A's elected to give Otero the opportunity. Claimed off waivers from the Yankees 14 months ago, Otero has produced a stellar 2.25 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 44 innings this year. We expect him to remain a strong setup man, but Otero shouldn't be expected to earn many more saves.

Danny Otero took a tough loss Thursday, getting charged with three runs in his third inning of relief against the Rays.

Manager Bob Melvin asked Otero to go a third inning to finish off the Rays today -- even though he just threw two innings on Tuesday -- and it backfired. Working with a 2-1 lead in the 11th, he gave up the tying run on a single with two outs, resulting in his removal. Luke Gregerson then came in and immediately gave up a game-ending three-run homer, adding two more runs to Otero's total and giving him his first loss after four wins. Otero was working on a streak of 16 straight scoreless innings going into the 11th today.

Dan Otero will be away from the Athletics for a few days as he returns home to Arizona to be with his wife for the birth of their first child.

The 28-year-old right-hander has been one of the most valuable pieces in the A's bullpen this season, posting a 2-0 record, 1.56 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 24/5 K/BB ratio over his 34 2/3 innings.
