Athletics designated RHP Dan Otero for assignment.

This marks the third time in the year that Otero has been designated for assignment, as the Yankees and Giants have already done so as well. A talented right-handed reliever, he should have no problem finding another team willing to take a shot on him.

Athletics claimed RHP Dan Otero off waivers from the Yankees; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Otero was designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier this week, just one day after he was claimed off waivers from the Giants. The 28-year-old posted a 5.84 ERA over 12 appearances with San Francisco last year and will serve as bullpen depth for the A's at the minor league level.

Yankees designated RHP Dan Otero for assignment.

Otero was just claimed off waivers from the Giants on Tuesday, but he could be on the move again. The move clears room for the newly-claimed Sam Demel on the 40-man roster.

Yankees claimed RHP Dan Otero off waivers from the Giants.

Otero posted a 5.84 ERA over 12 appearances with the Giants last season, but he owns a 2.12 ERA over six seasons in the minors. The 28-year-old right-hander will function as bullpen depth in the minors.

Giants optioned RHPs Dan Otero, Jake Dunning, Chris Heston and Sandy Rosario, INFs Ehire Adrianza and Nick Noonan, OFs Roger Kieschnick and Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno; LHP Edwin Escobar to High-A San Jose.

The team also reassigned Brett Bochy, Boof Bonser, Steve Edlefsen, Heath Hembree, Michael Kickham, Mitch Lively, Shane Loux, Ricky Oropesa, Adam Duvall, Brock Bond, Tyler LaTorre and Gary Brown to minor league camp. None of the cuts are shockers, though it's a little surprising that Bond and Noonan didn't last a little longer.

Giants recalled RHP Dan Otero from Triple-A Fresno.

The move was made prior to Tuesday's game, where Otero tossed 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief against the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old right-hander will function as relief depth down the stretch.

Giants recalled RHP Dan Otero from Triple-A Fresno.

Otero held an ugly 8.64 ERA and 1.92 WHIP over seven appearances earlier this season with the Giants but has had a nice year at Fresno, putting up a 2.83 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He'll work the middle innings.

Giants optioned RHP Dan Otero to Triple-A Fresno.

He was cleared to make room for Friday's starter Eric Hacker on the active roster. Otero was probably the obvious choice after giving up six runs on six hits over just 1 2/3 innings in his last appearance Tuesday against the Reds. He figures to return to the big club at some point.

It was not Dan Otero's night on Tuesday, as the right-hander gave up six runs on six hits in only 1 2/3 innings.

He also hit a batter and walked one. Otero relieved starter Matt Cain down 3-0 with one out in the seventh inning, and proceeded to extend the deficit to 8-0 before the frame ended, effectively wiping out his otherwise strong start to the season. The forgettable appearance raises his ERA to 8.64 and his WHIP to 1.92.

Giants purchased the contract of RHP Dan Otero from Triple-A Fresno.

Otero enjoyed the best season of his career in 2011, compiling a 2.31 ERA, 13 saves, and a stingy 76/11 K/BB ratio over 74 innings as a reliever between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Fresno. The 26-year-old right-hander could crack the Giants' bullpen at some point next season.
