Braves optioned 1B Ernesto Mejia to Triple-A Gwinnett; reassigned C Matt Kennelly, SS Elmer Reyes and OF Todd Cunningham to minor league camp.

No surprises here. Mejia has a chance to make his major league debut at some point this season, but the Braves will use Chris Johnson as Freddie Freeman's backup at first base.

Braves purchased the contract of 1B Ernesto Mejia from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Braves re-signed 1B Ernesto Mejia to a minor league contract.

He'll also receive an invite to spring training. Mejia enjoyed a monster season with Double-A Mississippi in 2011, but turns 26 in December and strikes out much too often to think he could be successful against big-league pitching.
