Marwin Gonzalez had a two-run single in the top of the ninth to propel the Astros past the A's 4-2 on Monday.

Gonzalez is far from an ideal option as a primary first baseman, but the Astros trust him more than A.J. Reed or Tyler White right now. Consistency helps; his OPS has been hanging right around .700 for months.

Marwin Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the A's due to right hamstring discomfort.

Gonzalez was dealing with a bit of a knee injury after being plunked by a pitch in mid-August, but Wednesday's hamstring issue would seem to be unrelated to the previous ailment. Hamstrings are notoriously tricky and a trip to the disabled list is in play here depending on the severity of the injury. The Astros will reevaluate him after the game.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Reds.

Batting second and playing first base, Gonzalez hit the two-run shot in the first inning against Reds rookie Cody Reed. Quietly, the 27-year-old is hitting .339 this month and has been promoted to the two hole between George Springer and Jose Altuve in recent days. It's a nice spot to be, and owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues should take notice, especially if he has multi-position eligibility in their league.
