Astros exercised INF/OF Marwin Gonzalez's $5.125 million option for 2018.
It wasn't a difficult decision after Gonzalez had a breakout 2017 season that saw him bat .303/.377/.530 with 23 homers and 90 RBI. The 28-year-old would appear at the moment to be in line to start in left field for Houston in 2018, but his versatility allows the club to put him at a different position depending on how the offseason goes. Marwin Gonzalez hit a game-tying homer off of Kenley Jansen in the top of the ninth inning of a game the Astros eventually won in extra-innings over the Dodgers in game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday.

There were so many late, clutch hits, but the only reason that was the case was because Gonzalez shocked everyone with a homer on an 0-2 pitch from Jansen to opposite-field. In fact, it was Gonzalez first opposite-field homer of the season. It's just another example of how incredibly deep this Houston lineup truly is. He should be back in the lineup on Friday in Game 3 in Houston.
Oct 26 - 12:52 AM

Marwin Gonzalez went 0-for-3 at the plate Monday against the Yankees.

Gonzalez did walk and score the Astros' only run in the ninth inning. However, he's now hitless in the first three games of the ALCS. It's hard to believe he'll get benched even for a game, though, given the season he had for the 'Stros.
Oct 16 - 11:43 PM

Marwin Gonzalez hit a three-run double and finished 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.

Eduardo Rodriguez played with fire in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs, and Gonzalez made him pay, lacing a pitch to right-center that rolled nearly all the way to the wall and cleared the bases in the process. The 28-year-old is finishing strong after a late-season lull threatened to put a small black mark on what has otherwise been a breakout year for Gonzalez. With 12 hits in his last 20 at-bats, Gonzalez is now batting .305/.375/.533 with 23 homers, 90 RBI, 67 runs scored and eight steals to date.
Sep 29 - 1:34 AM

Marwin Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with a homer, three RBI, and three runs scored in the Astros' 11-2 thrashing of the Rangers on Monday.

Gonzalez struck out in his first at-bat, but he filled the box score from there. The 28-year-old slugger led off the top of the fourth inning with a single and then drove in two runs with another single later in that eight-run frame for Houston. Gonzalez belted a solo homer in the top of the sixth and added one more single for good measure in the top of the eighth. He's slashing .302/.371/.531 with 23 homers and 85 RBI in 129 games this season for the American League West champions.
Sep 25 - 11:56 PM

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-4 and scored two runs in a win over the Angels on Saturday.

He singled and rode home on an Evan Gattis three-run homer in the fifth inning, then doubled and scored on a Carlos Correa single in the seventh. Gonzalez is blowing away his previous career highs in just about every category with a breakout campaign at the age of 28. He has a .296 batting average with 22 homers, 82 RBI and 61 runs -- all career bests. He's chipped in eight stolen bases. His multi-position versatility will enable him to qualify at every fantasy position except catcher next year in most formats.
Sep 23 - 4:35 PM

Marwin Gonzalez was ejected from Friday's game against the Angels for arguing balls and strikes.

Astros' manager A.J. Hinch came out to defend his player and was also given the gate. Prior to departing, Gonzalez was 0-for-2 with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.
Sep 22 - 10:32 PM

Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Astros beat the Angels 5-1 on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Gonzalez delivered a two-run double in the eighth inning to tack on a pair of insurance runs. The super utility man got the start in left field in this one. He has had a spectacular season, hitting .294/.366/.517 with 21 homers and 80 RBI.
Sep 15 - 1:46 AM

Marwin Gonzalez went 0-for-4 on Thursday to finish the month of August at .221/.272/.347 in 95 at-bats.

The Astros are bringing back Carlos Correa on Friday, which could result in fewer at-bats for Gonzalez. He'll surely see less time in the infield, though he can still play left and do some DHing.
Aug 31 - 4:21 PM

Marwin Gonzalez hit his 21st home run of the season on Sunday afternoon against the A's.

It was a solo blast in the bottom of the seventh inning against A's starter Jharel Cotton, but the Astros were held off the board from there in the eventual 3-2 loss. Gonzalez has an excellent .307/.382/.554 batting line through 103 games this season with first-place Houston.
Aug 20 - 5:43 PM

Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run single in Saturday's win over the Athletics.

Gonzalez pulled a ground ball to the right side in the fourth inning, glancing off the second baseman's glove and into right field to score two. It was his only hit in three at-bats. It's been a heck of a breakout year for the 28-year-old, who ranks among the league leaders in batting average (.308), slugging percentage (.548) and OPS (.932) while setting career highs in basically every statistical category.
Aug 19 - 10:23 PM

Marwin Gonzalez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

He'll take a seat against lefty Anthony Banda. Alex Bregman will start at shortstop and J.D. Davis will play third base.
Aug 15 - 1:20 PM

Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

The Astros fell behind 6-0 before finally trying to make a game of things via a four-run eighth inning. Gonzalez would hit an RBI double in that frame, but the Astros did not score in any other inning as they fell by a 6-4 final. Tough result aside, Gonzalez continues to have himself a charmed 2017 season. He is hitting .314/.391/.571 on the year with 20 homers and 68 RBI in 95 games played. He has collected doubles in each of his last two games.
Aug 12 - 12:01 AM

Marwin Gonzalez is not in the Astros' starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays.

This looks to be just a regular day of rest for Gonzalez, who clubbed his 20th home run of the season on Friday against the Jays. Alex Bregman will start at shortstop for the Astros while J.D. Davis makes his big league debut at third base.
Aug 5 - 3:16 PM
