Marwin Gonzalez hit a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.

The utility infielder got his first home run of the season out of the way early, going deep off Yovani Gallardo in the third inning. He finished the game 2-for-4. In 285 at-bats last season, Gonzalez hit .277/.327/.400 with six homers and 23 RBI. He's not worth consideration in fantasy leagues, but as a real-life player, he provides the Astros position flexibility and a nice little bench bat.

Astros and INF Marwin Gonzalez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.0625 million contract.

It's a shade under the midpoint of figures exchanged last week. Gonzalez hit .277/.327/.400 with six homers and 23 RBI in 285 at-bats last season and will function in a utility role in 2015.

Marwin Gonzalez requested $1.4 million and was offered $900,000 from the Astros when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday. projects Gonzalez to earn $1 million through the arbitration process, which is closer to the Astros figure. The 25-year-old infielder did a nice job in 2014, slashing .277/.327/.400 with six homers and 23 RBI in 285 at-bats.

Marwin Gonzalez was scratched from the Astros' lineup Saturday due to right hamstring discomfort.

Gregorio Petit will start at shortstop instead against the Rangers. Gonzalez missed time in late July with a similar issue. He is considered day-to-day for now.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a two-run double and a run scored Friday against the Rangers.

Gonzalez had a pair of doubles on the night and is now batting .272/.320/.398 with six homers and 22 RBI through 91 games this season. While he's not much of a fantasy option, he has hit leadoff each of the last two games with Robbie Grossman (hamstring) sidelined.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a couple of doubles Monday against the A's.

The second double shouldn't have been a double; it was either a single and a two-base error or a triple, depending on how the scorer wanted to treat the ball bouncing past Josh Reddick in the right-field corner. Instead, the scorer gave him a double even though Gonzalez initially stopped after rounding first. Regardless, it was a nice game for Gonzalez, who had been hitting just .215/.271/.308 in 65 at-bats this month. He could use a nice hot streak to finish the month or he might lose most of his playing time to Jonathan Villar in September.

Marwin Gonzalez finished Friday's game 1-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored.

The fifth inning home run, a solo shot off of Indians starter Carlos Carrasco, was Gonzalez's sixth of the season. Gonzalez won't knock over the light stanchion, but he does have a bit of pop in his bat, which makes him an interesting bench shortstop in deeper AL-only leagues. For the year, Gonzalez is slashing .263/.309/.373 with six home runs and twenty RBI in 228 ABs.

Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) is not in the Astros' lineup Wednesday.

Gonzalez is still nursing soreness in his right hamstring after tweaking it last week. He'll avoid the disabled list for the time being, but the Astros will be cautious with his playing time.

Marwin Gonzalez is in the Astros' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon versus the Athletics.

Gonzalez was pulled from Wednesday's game with soreness in his right hamstring -- something he's been dealing with since last week. But it's a manageable injury and he'll start at shortstop on Thursday. Gonzalez is batting .294/.333/.412 so far in July. He took over starting duties from Jonathan Villar at the end of June.

Marwin Gonzalez was pulled from Wednesday's loss to the A's with soreness in his right hamstring.

"It happened the second game in Chicago (on Saturday), I got sore running the bases and since that day I’ve been playing with (soreness)," Gonzalez told reporters late Wednesday night. "So I’ve been dealing with it." The shortstop is hoping to play in Thursday's series finale. He's hit well since taking over for Jonathan Villar.

Marwin Gonzalez hit his third homer of the year off Seattle's Taijuan Walker in Monday's game.

Gonzalez has looked like a better player than Jonathan Villar all year, and now he'll get a chance to prove it with Villar getting sent down. He doesn't have Villar's mixed-league upside since he's not a basestealer, but he should prove to be an upgrade at shortstop for the Astros.

Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.

Gonzalez' solo shot off A's starter Jesse Chavez was the Astros' only run on the day. The infielder, getting a spot start at third base in place of Matt Dominguez, finished with two of the Astros' five hits. The 25-year-old earned a bench spot with a strong spring and is hitting .313 in part-time duty to start the season.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-3 and hit his fifth double of the spring to fuel the Astros' come-from-behind win over a Nationals split-squad on Wednesday.

Gonzalez had his nice day off the bench after starting shortstop Jonathan Villar made his fourth and fifth errors of the spring. Villar's starting job wasn't supposed to be in doubt this spring, but if he keeps up the sloppy play, Gonzalez might be a factor at shortstop. He's 10-for-23 at the plate, while Villar is 6-for-21 with a homer.
