Marwin Gonzalez requested $4.2 million and was offered $3.25 million by the Astros when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

This is one of the larger gaps between player and club that we have seen this season. MLBTradeRumors.com projected that Gonzalez would earn $3.6 million in the arbitration, which is closer to the figure that the Astros' submitted. Set to function in a utility role for the Astros in 2017, the 27-year-old is coming off of a season in which he hit .254/.293/.401 with 13 homers, 51 RBI and 12 stolen bases while earning $2 million.

Marwin Gonzalez had a two-run single in the top of the ninth to propel the Astros past the A's 4-2 on Monday.

Gonzalez is far from an ideal option as a primary first baseman, but the Astros trust him more than A.J. Reed or Tyler White right now. Consistency helps; his OPS has been hanging right around .700 for months.

Marwin Gonzalez went 1-for-3 and swiped his 11th base of the season as the Astros were shut out by Jon Lester and the Cubs on Friday.

The Astros had seven hits and three stolen bases in the contest, but were unable to push a run across. Gonzalez has quietly had a nice little season in a part-time role for the Astros, slashing .255/.293/.417 with 12 homers, 38 RBI and the aforementioned 11 thefts.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer in Tuesday's victory over the Indians.

Corey Kluber issued a pair of two-out walks in the second inning and Gonzalez made him pay by then lifting a ball into the right field seats. He also added a pair of doubles in a huge night at the dish in what was his first start of the month after he battled a hamstring issue.

Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) came off the bench and struck out in his lone at-bat Monday versus the Indians.

Gonzalez hadn't played since August 31 due to right hamstring discomfort. He appears to be getting closer to a return to the lineup.

Marwin Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the A's due to right hamstring discomfort.

Gonzalez was dealing with a bit of a knee injury after being plunked by a pitch in mid-August, but Wednesday's hamstring issue would seem to be unrelated to the previous ailment. Hamstrings are notoriously tricky and a trip to the disabled list is in play here depending on the severity of the injury. The Astros will reevaluate him after the game.

Marwin Gonzalez (knee) slugged his 11th home run of the season Tuesday in the Astros' loss to the Cardinals.

Gonzalez made an early exit from Sunday's series finale against the Blue Jays after taking a pitch off his left knee. He escaped with a minor bruise. Gonzalez finished 1-for-4 with a strikeout on Tuesday night -- that strikeout being the final out of the game.

Marwin Gonzalez is away from the Astros on Sunday because he's dealing with an issue at home.

He'll presumably be ready to travel with the club when they begin their road trip Monday. The Astros are playing with a short bench Sunday with Gonzalez unavailable and the status of Carlos Gomez (illness) and Tyler White (knee) up in the air.

Marwin Gonzalez (hand) doubled and scored a run in his return to the Astros' lineup Wednesday.

Gonzalez had been held out of action since leaving last Friday's game against the Tigers with soreness in his right hand. He scored the only Astros run in Wednesday night's 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Marwin Gonzalez (hand) is not in the Astros' lineup Saturday against the Tigers.

Gonzalez will get the day off after exiting Friday night's game with right hand soreness. His X-rays came back negative but Gonzalez will still need a few days to heal up. Tyler White is getting the nod at first base. He'll bat seventh against Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander. Consider Gonzalez day-to-day.

Marwin Gonzalez hit two home runs in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.

Gonzalez was one of the only Astros hitters able to get anything done against CC Sabathia and company, taking Sabathia deep for a solo dinger in the first inning before tacking on a one-run shot in the eighth for good measure. The homers gave Gonzalez 10 on the year to go with 28 RBI and 40 runs scored. The 27-year-old is hitting .256/.295/.426 overall.

Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's win over the Reds.

Batting second and playing first base, Gonzalez hit the two-run shot in the first inning against Reds rookie Cody Reed. Quietly, the 27-year-old is hitting .339 this month and has been promoted to the two hole between George Springer and Jose Altuve in recent days. It's a nice spot to be, and owners in AL-only and deep mixed leagues should take notice, especially if he has multi-position eligibility in their league.
