Raul Alcantara scattered seven hits and four runs over six innings Saturday in a loss to the Rangers.
He finished with six strikeouts and one walk. Elvis Andrus was his Kryptonite, taking him deep twice with two-run shots in the second and sixth innings. Alcantara was extremely efficient, throwing 58 of his 79 pitches for strikes. The right-hander now holds a 5.75 ERA in four starts since his call-up three weeks ago. He'll make his last start of the year Friday against Seattle. Sep 24 - 8:22 PM

Raul Alcantara earned his first major league win Saturday, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Rangers.

Alcantara served up a two-run homer to Carlos Gomez but was otherwise stingy, allowing just four other hits without issuing a walk. In three starts this year, the 23-year-old has a 5.65 ERA -- due in large part to allowing five runs over three innings in his MLB debut -- and is now 1-1 overall. Alcantara will get another crack at this Rangers lineup when the two meet for a rematch on Friday.

Raul Alcantara pitched well in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Alcantara walked one and struck out four on the afternoon. All of the damage against him came on one mighty swing of the bat by Mike Zunino in the second inning. The Athletics have dealt with a massive amount of injuries in their starting rotation this year, which has provided the young right-hander with an opportunity over the final few weeks of the season. He'll take on the Rangers his next time out at home on Saturday.

Raul Alcantara wishes he could hit the reset button on his major league debut, as he yielded five runs over just three innings Monday in a loss to the Angels.

He yielded five hits -- including a home run -- walked one and hit three (yes, three) batters, needing 61 pitches to cover three frames. Alcantara could have a future as a solid back-end starter, but he was really shaky in this one and clearly can't be trusted in fantasy leagues at this point. Assuming he gets another start, it could come this weekend versus the Mariners.

Athletics recalled RHP Raul Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara is making his major league debut in a start Monday afternoon against the Angels. He had a decent 3.58 ERA and 105/30 K/BB ratio in 135 2/3 innings this season between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
Sep 5 - 1:32 PM

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics will recall Raul Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville to make his major league debut Monday against the Angels.

Picked up from the Red Sox along with Josh Reddick back in 2012 in the deal that sent Andrew Bailey to Boston, Alcantara has put up a 3.58 ERA and 105/30 K/BB ratio over 135 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A in 2016. The 23-year-old was particularly effective in eight outings for Nashville with a 1.18 ERA and 32/3 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings.

Athletics optioned RHP Raul Alcantara to Double-A Midland; re-assigned LHP Daniel Coulombe, C Beau Taylor, SSs Richie Martin and Josh Rodriguez to minor league camp.

Alcantara has just three stars above A-ball, so he needs more time in the minors. Martin was the A's first-round pick last season.

Athletics prospect right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara was dominant in his second start for Double-A Midland, striking out seven while allowing five hits, one walk, and one hit batsman in 6 2/3 innings.

Alcantara got 12 ground balls and two popups to go with four fly balls, while preventing any line drives. Alcantara, who is the 5th youngest player in the Double-A Texas League, seems to be taking another step forward in 2014.

Athletics right-handed pitching prospect Raul Alcantara allowed only one run as he pitched eight innings in his Double-A debut.

Alcantara was acquired from the Red Sox in the 2011 trade that sent Andrew Bailey to the Boston. After struggling with a 5.08 ERA in the Low-A Midwest League in 2012, he put up a combined 3.11 ERA across 156 1/3 innings between Low-A and High-A. He will never be a high strikeout pitcher, but he walks very few batters. His fastball sits between 92-94, which he couples with a fading change-up and an average slider. Alcantara has the potential to be a solid #3 pitcher, and he could be in Oakland during 2014

Athletics optioned RHP Raul Alcantara to Double-A Midland.

The A's added Alcantara to the 40-man roster in November after he posted a 3.11 ERA and 124/24 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings last season between Class A Beloit and High-A Stockton. He's arguably the team's best pitching prospect at this point.

Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Raul Alcantara from High-A Stockton.

Alcantara, who turns 21 next month, had a promising 3.11 ERA and 124/24 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings this past season between Class A Beloit and High-A Stockton. He was acquired from the Red Sox in Andrew Bailey deal two offseasons ago.

Athletics acquired RHP Raul Alcantara, 3B Miles Head and OF Josh Reddick from the Red Sox for RHP Andrew Bailey and OF Ryan Sweeney.

Alcantara, a 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic, posted a 2.20 ERA and 50/12 K/BB ratio in 65 1/3 innings this past season between rookie ball and Single-A. The right-hander has some promise, but he's still developing and probably won't be on the radar for a major league job until the 2014 season.
