Athletics sent RHP Raul Alcantara outright to Triple-A Nashville.
The right-hander cracked the A's Opening Day rotation but made just one start before he was demoted to the bullpen. He'll look to right the ship at Triple-A before hopefully rejoining the big league club later in the season. Apr 29 - 1:46 PM

Athletics designated RHP Raul Alcantara for assignment.

Alcantara had a 16.71 ERA through one start and two relief appearances this season for Oakland. The 24-year-old may draw some interest from other teams on waivers.
Apr 25 - 5:50 PM

Raul Alcantara has been moved to the Athletics' bullpen.

Well, that was fast. Alcantara was touched up for eight runs over two innings against the Rangers last Friday and it's earned him a ticket to long relief. Jesse Hahn will take his rotation spot.
Apr 9 - 1:22 PM

The Athletics are considering skipping Raul Alcantara's next turn in the rotation.

Alcantara was lit up for eight runs over two innings against the Rangers in his first start of the season. They have an off day Tuesday, so they could push Alcantara's next turn back and allow him to iron out his problems. Jesse Hahn pitched well in relief of Alcantara last Friday and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the two eventually swap roles.
Apr 9 - 9:30 AM

Raul Alcantara was blasted for eight runs in just two innings of work in Friday’s start against the Rangers.

Ouch. Alcantara gave up three runs in the first — including a two-run homer to Rougned Odor — before surrendering five more runs in the second, the big blow of which was a grand slam off the bat of Nomar Mazara. He threw just 30 out of 58 pitches for strikes. Jesse Hahn took over from there and allowed just two runs over six innings. Athletics manager Bob Melvin could have a decision to make here.
Apr 8 - 12:41 AM

Raul Alcantara is slated to open the season as the Athletics' fifth starter.

Andrew Triggs has captured the No. 4 spot and will be preceded by Kendall Graveman, Sean Manaea and Jharel Cotton. Jesse Hahn has struggled this spring and is headed to Triple-A Nashville to begin the season. Alcantara holds a 4.50 ERA with just nine strikeouts over 20 innings this spring, but he's out of options so it's not a surprise that he's getting a spot. Both he and Triggs will be on the chopping block when Sonny Gray (lat) is ready, which should be sometime in April.
Mar 26 - 10:32 AM

Raul Alcantara surrendered two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings Sunday in his Cactus League start against the Cubs.

Kris Bryant, the reigning National League MVP, did the bulk of the damage with a two-run homer in the top of the third. Alcantara gave up five total hits and one walk in the afternoon outing. He is probably headed back to Triple-A Nashville to open the 2017 regular season.
Mar 12 - 5:44 PM

Raul Alcantara was lit up for four homers and five runs in two-plus innings by the Mariners on Friday.

At least in a starting role, Alcantara's stuff isn't good enough to retire major league hitters consistently. Maybe if his fastball picks up in relief, he'll prove moderately useful. He finished his September rotation audition 1-3 with a 7.24 ERA and nine homers allowed in 22 1/3 innings.

Raul Alcantara scattered seven hits and four runs over six innings Saturday in a loss to the Rangers.

He finished with six strikeouts and one walk. Elvis Andrus was his Kryptonite, taking him deep twice with two-run shots in the second and sixth innings. Alcantara was extremely efficient, throwing 58 of his 79 pitches for strikes. The right-hander now holds a 5.75 ERA in four starts since his call-up three weeks ago. He'll make his last start of the year Friday against Seattle.

Raul Alcantara earned his first major league win Saturday, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Rangers.

Alcantara served up a two-run homer to Carlos Gomez but was otherwise stingy, allowing just four other hits without issuing a walk. In three starts this year, the 23-year-old has a 5.65 ERA -- due in large part to allowing five runs over three innings in his MLB debut -- and is now 1-1 overall. Alcantara will get another crack at this Rangers lineup when the two meet for a rematch on Friday.

Raul Alcantara pitched well in a no-decision against the Mariners on Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Alcantara walked one and struck out four on the afternoon. All of the damage against him came on one mighty swing of the bat by Mike Zunino in the second inning. The Athletics have dealt with a massive amount of injuries in their starting rotation this year, which has provided the young right-hander with an opportunity over the final few weeks of the season. He'll take on the Rangers his next time out at home on Saturday.

Raul Alcantara wishes he could hit the reset button on his major league debut, as he yielded five runs over just three innings Monday in a loss to the Angels.

He yielded five hits -- including a home run -- walked one and hit three (yes, three) batters, needing 61 pitches to cover three frames. Alcantara could have a future as a solid back-end starter, but he was really shaky in this one and clearly can't be trusted in fantasy leagues at this point. Assuming he gets another start, it could come this weekend versus the Mariners.

Athletics recalled RHP Raul Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara is making his major league debut in a start Monday afternoon against the Angels. He had a decent 3.58 ERA and 105/30 K/BB ratio in 135 2/3 innings this season between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics will recall Raul Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville to make his major league debut Monday against the Angels.

Picked up from the Red Sox along with Josh Reddick back in 2012 in the deal that sent Andrew Bailey to Boston, Alcantara has put up a 3.58 ERA and 105/30 K/BB ratio over 135 2/3 frames between Double- and Triple-A in 2016. The 23-year-old was particularly effective in eight outings for Nashville with a 1.18 ERA and 32/3 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings.

Athletics optioned RHP Raul Alcantara to Double-A Midland; re-assigned LHP Daniel Coulombe, C Beau Taylor, SSs Richie Martin and Josh Rodriguez to minor league camp.

Alcantara has just three stars above A-ball, so he needs more time in the minors. Martin was the A's first-round pick last season.
