The 26-year=old right-hander has done a decent job for the White Sox this season, compiling a 2.49 ERA and 15/12 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings, though that comes with a troublesome 1.71 WHIP.

White Sox placed RHP Daniel Webb on the 15-day disabled list with a mid-right back strain.

The injury could help explain why he was roughed up for three runs on six hits over just 1 1/3 innings Tuesday. It's unclear at this point how long Webb will be out. Nate Jones is taking his spot in the bullpen.

White Sox optioned RHP Daniel Webb to Triple-A Charlotte.

Once thought of as the team's closer of the future, the 25-year-old posted a troublesome 8.68 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 9 1/3 innings in the spring. He should get an opportunity with the White Sox at some point during the upcoming season.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Friday tht Daniel Webb and Maikel Cleto will be used in more high-leverage situations following Nate Jones' (hip) injury.

Matt Lindstrom remains the team's closer, but Webb and Cleto could slide into setup roles, potentially putting them in line for some saves if Lindstrom is demoted or injured. "The way (Webb and Cleto are) throwing, you just move them up," Ventura said. "With bullpens you’re always going to have guys that are tired and something happens, a little twinge and you’re going to have to have a lot of guys come in and be able to fill that in."

Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports that Daniel Webb is excited to have his name mentioned in the mix for the White Sox closer's job, but that his focus is earning a spot on the 25-man roster.

The hard-throwing 24-year-old acclimated himself well during his brief audition in 2013, posting a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 10/4 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings. Nate Jones, Matt Lindstrom and Mitchell Boggs are also being mentioned as candidates to get the ball in the ninth inning.

White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Daniel Webb from Triple-A Charlotte.

Webb had a 1.87 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 78/27 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings this summer in the minor leagues. The 24-year-old righty should do well in middle relief.

White Sox acquired RHP Daniel Webb and RHP Myles Jaye from the Blue Jays in exchange for RHP Jason Frasor.

Webb was an 18th-round pick of the Blue Jays in 2009 and was signed for $450,000, three times above the recommended slot amount. While he has touched the mid-90s with his fastball, the results haven't been there to this point, as he holds a 5.11 ERA and 6.2 K/9 rate over 135 2/3 innings in the lower minors. The 22-year-old is obviously a long ways away from the majors.
