Mason Williams will have right shoulder surgery on Friday.
Williams jammed his shoulder in June and continues to have discomfort. The surgery will end his season. It's too bad, as the 23-year-old was having a nice bounceback year prior to the injury. Aug 4 - 3:53 PM

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Mason Williams (shoulder) isn't guaranteed to make it back this season.

Williams had labrum surgery on his right shoulder back in August of 2012, and he was placed on the disabled list last month after the shoulder popped out of its socket. "I can’t say,’’ Cashman said when asked if the center fielder will make it back from the DL this season. "He had surgery on the same shoulder. If the rehab doesn’t go well he might need surgery.’’

Yankees transferred OF Mason Williams to the 60-day disabled list.

Williams was placed on the DL last month with right shoulder inflammation. The Yankees don't need Williams now that Jacoby Ellsbury is back from his knee injury.
Jul 11 - 7:34 PM

Mason Williams still feels discomfort in his right shoulder when throwing.

He'll get a few days off to see if rest helps. Williams has been on the disabled list since June 20 with inflammation in his right shoulder and the 23-year-old outfielder is obviously nowhere close to returning.
Jul 8 - 4:35 PM

Yankees placed OF Mason Williams on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 20, with right shoulder inflammation.

Williams' shoulder popped out of its socket when he dived back to first base on a pickoff attempt Friday. The ailment isn't considered serious, but the club didn't want to rush him back to action.
Jun 21 - 11:07 AM

Mason Williams underwent a precautionary MRI on his injured shoulder.

The results of the exam aren't available yet, but Williams is only expected to miss a few days. The outfielder's shoulder popped out of its socket when he dived back to first base on a pickoff attempt Friday. "It feels fine. I just landed awkwardly on my shoulder. That’s it," Williams said.
Jun 21 - 9:29 AM

Mason Williams was forced to leave Friday's game against the Tigers with an apparent injury.

He appeared to injure his shoulder while diving back into first base. He remained in the game to run the bases but was replaced by Chris Young defensively the following frame. The Yankees should have an update on his status shortly.
Jun 19 - 9:12 PM

Mason Williams homered for his first major league hit in Friday's loss to the Orioles.

It was a two-run shot off Ubaldo Jimenez in the fourth inning. The 23-year-old didn't have a home run through 235 plate appearances between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, but he managed to go deep in his first major league game. Go figure. With Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) still sidelined, the plan calls for Williams to start in center field against right-handed pitching. However, those in mixed fantasy leagues have can do better.
Jun 12 - 10:51 PM

Yankees recalled OF Mason Williams from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Williams was considered one of the top young outfield talents in the sport just a couple years ago, but he had a miserable 2013 and 2014. The 23-year-old has turned it around a bit this season, batting .318/.397/.398 in 54 games at Triple-A, but he shouldn't be counted on much from a fantasy perspective. Williams will serve as a utility outfielder for New York in his first taste of major league action.
Jun 11 - 12:09 PM

Mason Williams will be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of the Yankees' series opener Friday night against the Orioles.

Williams has hit .318/.397/.398 with 13 stolen bases in 54 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old fell off most top-100 prospect lists after a disappointing 2013 campaign and probably won't play enough for the Yankees to carry fantasy relevance.
Jun 11 - 11:49 AM

Yankees prospect outfielder Mason Williams has been promoted from Double-A Trenton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

After back-to-back disappointing seasons, Williams batted .317/.407/.375 with seven doubles, 11 RBI, and 11 stolen bases over his first 34 games in Double-A this season. It's nice to see, but the 23-year-old still has some work to do to be taken seriously as a prospect again.
May 21 - 4:11 PM

Yankees optioned OF Mason Williams to Double-A Trenton.

Williams hit .357/.412/.714 in his 17 plate appearances this spring. The former top prospect is in need of a bounce-back season after producing two straight disappointing campaigns.
Mar 20 - 9:28 AM

Yankees purchased the contract of OF Mason Williams from Double-A Trenton.

Williams is now protected from the Rule-5 draft. Williams was a high-ish profile prospect back in 2012, but his bat has fallen off in the years since. He batted just .223/.290/.304 at Double-A in 2014.

Yankees outfield prospect Mason Williams went 2-for-4 with a double for Double-A Trenton on Saturday, raising his season line to .218/.304/.291.

Williams has seen his prospect status dim significantly since he hit .298/.346/.474 across two levels in 2012. He has 33 strikeouts (13.2%) and 27 walks (10.8%) in 250 plate appearances, but has yet to have a real hot streak to help revive his prospect status.

Yankees prospect OF Mason Williams went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Tuesday for Double-A Trenton.

Williams batted .153 in 17 games at Trenton last season after an August promotion, and the 22-year-old appears to be headed down a similar unproductive path this season with a .539 OPS through 35 games. That being said, Williams’ .217 BABIP and respectable 23/19 strikeout-to-walk ratio this season suggests his batting average should improve (at least to an extent).
