Braves optioned 3B Adonis Garcia to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Garcia opened the season as the club's starting third baseman and cleanup hitter, so it's a pretty quick fall from grace here. While he's a butcher defensively at third base, Garcia was hitting a respectable .260/.321/.631 with a homer and seven RBI in 109 plate appearances. He'll get another shot with the Braves at some point this season. May 6 - 11:32 PM

Adonis Garcia went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday night's loss to the Mets.

Garcia isn't hitting for the same kind of power he did in his brief big-league appearance a year ago; however, the 31-year-old third baseman owns a .309/.397/.382 slash line and has shown good feel for hitting through his first 16 games. Batting behind Freddie Freeman, one figures that he'll get a few RBI opportunities. If the power suddenly shows up like it did a year ago, too, he could be a nifty little fantasy pick-up off the waiver wire in deeper leagues.

Adonis Garcia (knee) is back in the Braves' starting lineup Thursday versus the Dodgers.

Garcia was limited to pinch-hitting duties on Wednesday night after taking a pitch off his knee on Tuesday. He only suffered a mild contusion and will return to the cleanup spot for the Braves on Thursday afternoon against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
Apr 21 - 10:01 AM

Adonis Garcia (knee) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest with the Dodgers.

Garcia was hit by a pitch on the knee on Tuesday and is dealing with a knee contusion. He is being replaced in Wednesday's lineup by Daniel Castro. Adjust your daily lineups accordingly. This is not considered to be a major injury. Garcia will likely be back in the fray for the Braves come Friday's series with the Mets.
Apr 20 - 4:10 PM

Adonis Garcia went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Marlins.

Garcia got the Braves’ comeback started with an RBI double in the seventh and delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth. We’re not expecting much in the way of mixed league value, but the Braves’ cleanup hitter is now batting .324/.425/.441 through his first 10 games this season.
Apr 15 - 10:40 PM

Adonis Garcia went 3-for-4 on Wednesday and is now 5-for-7 with a homer to start the season.

We're not expecting much of anything besides the occasional homer from Garcia, even if he is the Braves' cleanup hitter. That said, this is a really nice start against two excellent pitchers in Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.
Apr 6 - 10:33 PM

Adonis Garcia belted a solo home run and had two RBI in Monday's loss to the Nationals.

Garcia took Max Scherzer out to left field in the fourth inning to tie the game. He then drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning to push ahead the go-ahead run. You shouldn't get used to performances like this -- especially when it comes to the OBP -- but Garcia does carry some deep-league fantasy value as long as he's hitting in the cleanup spot.
Apr 4 - 7:42 PM

Adonis Garcia went 0-for-4 on Saturday and is in a 2-for-19 slump.

Garcia has yet to work a walk in 42 at-bats this spring, giving him an odd .238/.233/.429 line. Last year, he had five walks in 191 at-bats while hitting .277/.293/.497. Fredi Gonzalez is planning on hitting him cleanup and doesn't seem to mind the lack of on-base skills, but there isn't going to be much opportunity for anyone hitting behind Garcia to drive in runs (as things stand now, that's poised to be Nick Markakis in the fifth spot).
Mar 26 - 4:33 PM

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez is thinking about using Adonis Garcia in the cleanup spot this season.

Garcia has hit fourth during Grapefruit League play of late, sandwiched between Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis. I’m tinkering, you know?" Gonzalez said. "Just so we can break up those left-handers a little bit. In a perfect world I would like to have a right-hander hitting behind Freeman. I like to separate those lefties. And I think that Garcia is a guy who’s capable of being able to scare the opponent a little bit." Garcia hit 10 homers over 198 plate appearances as a 30-year-old rookie in 2015 and is positioned to start at third base this season. We're not very bullish on his long-term prospects, but he should have some deep-league value if he's batting cleanup. The Braves would surely like Hector Olivera to eventually slide into the No. 4 spot.
Mar 25 - 10:09 AM

Adonis Garcia hit a two-run homer off Doug Fister in Sunday's game against the Astros.

Garcia probably didn't need to have a very good spring to lock up a starting job, but at 8-for-23 with four extra-base hits, he's off to a nice start anyway. We're not impressed with his on-base skills or his defense at third base, but he does have major league power and he should be of some use in NL-only leagues, at least early on.
Mar 13 - 4:48 PM

Braves GM John Coppolella said that Adonis Garcia is currently the team's first option at third base.

The Braves are hoping to transition Hector Olivera to the outfield, which could open starts at third. Coppolella did note that Garcia's not guaranteed to start at the hot corner, but he'll at least see his share of opportunities. Said the Braves GM, "There are other guys that we like that could get opportunities there. But right now, I think [Garcia]'s earned first crack at it." The 30-year-old infielder saw 191 at-bats with the big club in 2015, hitting .277/.293/.497 with 10 homers and 26 RBI.

Adonis Garcia launched a pair of solo home runs in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Garcia deposited a hanging John Lackey curveball into the left-field seats in the fourth inning and then smacked a hanging changeup from Tyler Lyons into the same seats in the sixth. While he's managed just a .294 on-base percentage with the Braves, Garcia has banged out 10 homers in 187 at-bats.

Adonis Garcia (back) returned to the Braves lineup on Friday, going 1-for-4 in a victory over the Cardinals.

Garcia got the start at the hot corner and batted cleanup for the Braves on Friday evening. He's hitting .273/.289/.470 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 55 games with the big league club this season.

Adonis Garcia (back) flied out as a pinch-hitter in the Braves' win over the Nationals on Wednesday.

Garcia was scratched Tuesday with a stiff back and will remain day-to-day the rest of the way. The 30-year-old Cuban corner man has shown a nice spark in limited action this season for the Braves, slashing .269/.286/.474 with eight home runs and 23 RBI in 54 games.

Adonis Garcia has been scratched from the Braves' starting lineup Tuesday due to a stiff back.

Nick Swisher is now starting. Garcia is fine, but any injury at this point can be potentially season-ending.
