A former shortstop, De Leon's conversion to the mound hit a major speed bump this year, as he put up a 7.70 ERA at High-A. He throws hard, but at 25, he'll need to show some promise in a hurry.

Astros optioned RHP Jorge De Leon to Double-A Corpus Christi.

De Leon, a converted shortstop, has a 2.48 ERA and 80/25 K/BB ratio over 83 1/3 relief innings between Low-A Tri City and Class A Lexington since moving to the mound in 2010. The 24-year-old right-hander is a hard-thrower and could move quickly. The Astros also reassigned outfielder George Springer, second baseman Delino DeShields Jr., right-hander Henry Villar and shortstop Jonathan Villar to minor league camp on Tuesday.
