den Dekker hit the second of two solo home runs in the second inning, putting the Nationals up 2-0 against Aaron Harang. He singled and scored in the seventh, then doubled and scored in the ninth inning. den Dekker has stepped to the plate only 93 times this season, so Sunday's effort did wonders for his batting line. Nationals recalled OF Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Syracuse.

He'll serve as the 26th man for Tuesday's doubleheader, effectively giving the Nats some insurance with Denard Span's knee. The 27-year-old den Dekker had a brief stint with the big club earlier this year and was hitting .230/.299/.289 in Triple-A.

Nationals optioned OF Matt den Dekker to Triple-A Syracuse.

The move comes with the return of Jayson Werth. den Dekker, who was acquired from the Mets on March 30, saw just two at-bats in his short time on the Nationals' active roster. Apr 13 - 10:31 AM

Nationals acquired OF Matt den Dekker from the Mets for LHP Jerry Blevins.

It's a rare in-division trade, but the deal solves a need for both clubs. The 27-year-old den Dekker wasn't going to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and profiles as a fifth outfielder-type, but he's capable of playing all three outfield positions, which is useful for the Nationals given the status of Denard Span, Jayson Werth, and Nate McLouth.
Mar 30 - 3:55 PM

Matt den Dekker tripled, doubled and walked in his three plate appearances Monday against the Marlins.

The 27-year-old den Dekker got his shot last year and didn't really capitalize after being installed as the Mets' primary left fielder, hitting .250/.345/.322 with no homers in 152 at-bats. He was kept around over the winter anyway, but he's not in the team's plans following the Michael Cuddyer signing. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and John Mayberry Jr. are expected to serve as the Mets' reserve outfielders.
