Nationals optioned OF Matt den Dekker to Triple-A Syracuse.
The move comes with the return of Jayson Werth. den Dekker, who was acquired from the Mets on March 30, saw just two at-bats in his short time on the Nationals' active roster. He's not much more than a fifth outfielder, but if the Nationals find themselves with depth issues in the future, he could see another call-up. Apr 13 - 10:31 AM

Nationals acquired OF Matt den Dekker from the Mets for LHP Jerry Blevins.

It's a rare in-division trade, but the deal solves a need for both clubs. The 27-year-old den Dekker wasn't going to make the Mets' Opening Day roster and profiles as a fifth outfielder-type, but he's capable of playing all three outfield positions, which is useful for the Nationals given the status of Denard Span, Jayson Werth, and Nate McLouth.

Matt den Dekker tripled, doubled and walked in his three plate appearances Monday against the Marlins.

The 27-year-old den Dekker got his shot last year and didn't really capitalize after being installed as the Mets' primary left fielder, hitting .250/.345/.322 with no homers in 152 at-bats. He was kept around over the winter anyway, but he's not in the team's plans following the Michael Cuddyer signing. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and John Mayberry Jr. are expected to serve as the Mets' reserve outfielders.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Saturday that he plans to platoon Matt den Dekker and Eric Campbell in left field following Chris Young's release.

Den Dekker will form the long side of the platoon and is the one worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues even though he's batting just .184/.250/.243 across his first 112 plate appearances in the majors. The 26-year-old has hit .331/.403/.533 with eight homers, 46 RBI and nine stolen bases at Triple-A this season. "One of the things we asked him to do is cut back on the strikeouts. He’s done that due to fact he’s putting the ball in play better, he’s hitting," Collins said. "We know he has power, he has hit for power in the past in the minor leagues. We know the more contact he makes, the more chance he’s got to be successful."

Mets recalled OF Matt den Dekker from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 26-year-old outfielder forced the Mets hand by killing the ball at Triple-A, slashing .331/.403/.533 with eight homers, 46 RBI and nine stolen bases in 91 games. He should get a chance to play regularly in left field and is worth grabbing in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.

Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed that there has been internal discussion about promoting Matt den Dekker to the majors.

Collins said that there was "a lot of talk" within the organization about den Dekker's possible promotion. Den Dekker has been killing the ball in Triple-A Vegas, hitting to the tune of .329, though he hit just .156/.224/.200 in his first go around with the big league club. Den Dekker was demoted on June 18th.

Matt den Dekker went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

Getting another start atop the lineup, den Dekker delivered two singles and scored the Mets' lone run. The stolen base was his first of the year. The 26-year-old is filling in for Juan Lagares, and he can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Matt den Dekker went 1-for-5 with a single and a run scored Monday against the Phillies.

With Juan Lagares on the DL, Mets manager Terry Collins put den Dekker in the leadoff spot Monday. However, he's mostly in the lineup for his defense, which he showed with a leaping catch and a throw to nail a runner at home plate. Given the way Bobby Abreu is playing right now, he might be the team's best option out of the leadoff spot.
