Rockies signed INF Josh Rutledge to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

It's a homecoming for Rutledge, who was originally drafted by the Rockies in 2010 and spent the first three seasons of his career with the club. The 27-year-old appeared in 28 games with the Red Sox this past season while batting .265/.345/.388 in 56 plate appearances. He could be in the mix for a utility infielder job in spring training.
Nov 23 - 3:17 PM

Josh Rutledge has elected free agency.

Rutledge had been outrighted off the Red Sox' 40-man roster and has decided to seek a job elsewhere. He is a career .262/.312/.397 hitter across parts of five big league seasons.
Nov 4 - 11:54 AM

Red Sox activated INF Josh Rutledge from the 60-day disabled list; sent him outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Rutledge landed on the disabled list in mid-June with patellar tendinitis in his left knee and eventually required surgery. He is now off Boston's 40-man roster and it's unclear what his future might hold.
Nov 3 - 3:40 PM

Josh Rutledge will undergo surgery on his left knee to repair patellar tendinitis.

Rutledge has been bothered by the knee issue for nearly two months and rest and rehab wasn't working. His rehab is expected to last 3-4 months, so he should be ready for spring training, barring any complications.
Aug 12 - 9:04 AM

Red Sox transferred INF Josh Rutledge to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was needed to clear a roster spot for Drew Pomeranz. Rutledge has been out a month with patellar tendinitis in his left knee. He was made expendable when the team acquired Aaron Hill earlier this month.
Jul 14 - 9:58 PM

Red Sox placed INF Josh Rutledge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 15, with left knee patellar tendinitis.

It's unclear at this point how Rutledge was injured or how long he'll be out. He's being replaced on the roster by Roenis Elias.
Jun 17 - 2:41 PM

Red Sox recalled 2B Josh Rutledge from Triple-A Pawtucket.

With Pablo Sandoval hitting the disabled list with a left shoulder strain, Rutledge earned himself a call-up. The 26-year-old infielder holds a career triple-slash of .261/.310/.398 in 1,032 plate appearances at the big league level. While he has played respectably enough when given the opportunity, there is little fantasy upside here.
Apr 13 - 4:45 PM

Josh Rutledge is nursing some hip soreness.

He'll be held out of Grapefruit League action until early next week. Rutledge is in camp as a non-roster invitee after being removed from the Red Sox' 40-man roster.
Mar 11 - 9:07 AM

Red Sox sent 2B Josh Rutledge outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Rutledge was designated for assignment earlier this month and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old middle infielder is a .261/.310/.398 career hitter in 1,032 major league plate appearances -- the large majority of them having taken place at power-friendly Coors Field.

Red Sox designated 2B Josh Rutledge for assignment.

Rutledge saw 74 at-bats with the Red Sox in 2015. The 26-year-old infielder worked his way to a .284/.333/.338 triple-slash with a homer and 10 RBI during his stay with the big club. He initially came over to Boston as part of the club's trade of Shane Victorino to the Angels.

Josh Rutledge went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a strikeout in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Rutledge hit an infield single to drive home a run in the fifth inning against Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman. It would be the only run the 69-77 Red Sox scored in the game. In limited action this season, he's 17-for-54 (.315) with one homer and seven RBI. Nice enough average, but there's no fantasy intrigue here beyond deeper AL-only formats.

Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Royals on Friday.

It was his first home run in the majors this season. Rutledge should continue to see part-time at-bats at second base while Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) is sidelined, but there's not much fantasy appeal here outside of deeper AL-only formats.

Red Sox recalled INF Josh Rutledge from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Acquired earlier this week for Shane Victorino, Rutledge will provide infield depth with Dustin Pedroia (hamstring) and Brock Holt (knee) banged up. He's hit .274/.323/.403 at Triple-A this season.
Wed, Jul 29, 2015 03:51:00 PM

Red Sox acquired INF Josh Rutledge from the Angels in exchange for OF Shane Victorino and cash.

Rutledge entered spring training as the favorite to start at second base, but he lost out on that spot and has been at Triple-A Salt Lake all season, hitting .274/.323/.403. He's merely a depth guy at this point.
