Angels optioned INF Josh Rutledge to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Rutledge was expected to begin the season as the Angels starter at second base, but he was beat out for the job by Johnny Giavotella after hitting just .192/.246/.212 with a 14/4 K/BB ratio in 52 at-bats in Cactus League play. He'll bide his time in the minors until getting an opportunity with the Halos later in the season. Apr 4 - 11:09 AM

Josh Rutledge (hamstring) was back in the Angels' lineup Sunday.

Rutledge was recently sidelined with some tightness in his hamstring, but it obviously wasn't too serious. Rutledge has a shot at winning the everyday second base job in these final few weeks of camp.

Josh Rutledge is considered day-to-day with tightness in his hamstring.

The Angels don't believe that it's a major issue and expect Rutledge to return to the lineup in a few days. He entered camp as the favorite to secure the everyday second base job, but has struggled by hitting just .226/.294/.258 in his first 31 at-bats.
Mar 21 - 2:02 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Josh Rutledge is viewed as the favorite for the Angels' second base job.

It's not really a revelation, as Rutledge has looked like the obvious favorite since camp opened. He's competing with Johnny Giavotella, Taylor Featherston and Grant Green for the gig. Rutledge doesn't have nearly as much fantasy appeal in Anaheim as he did in Denver, but he could still carve out some usefulness in fantasy leagues as a middle infielder.
Mar 6 - 4:41 PM

Angels acquired infielder Josh Rutledge from the Rockies for RHP Jairo Diaz.

Moments after dealing Howie Kendrick, the Angels got themselves a new option at second base. Rutledge, 25, has hit .259/.308/.403 with 19 homers in 947 at-bats for the Rockies since debuting in 2012. He's best utilized as a utilityman, but the Angels could save some money and go with him as a starter if they'd prefer to add elsewhere.

Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that the Angels are interested in Josh Rutledge.

He could fill a backup role in 2015 but could eventually start with Howie Kendrick only under contract for one more season and Erick Aybar under control through 2016. Rutledge has been inconsistent with the Rockies with a .259/.308/.403 batting line, but he hit in the minors and has flashed some pop and speed.

Josh Rutledge had a big night as the Rockies took the second game of Sunday's doubleheader from the Reds, going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.

He's being counted on to carry a much bigger load in the Rockies offense with Troy Tulowitzki sidelined for the remainder of the season, and was hitting out of the leadoff spot in the order for Sunday's contest. He should be owned and started in all mixed leagues at this point.

Josh Rutledge came off the bench Thursday against the Cubs and popped out in his only at-bat.

Rutledge is still troubled by an illness, but he could be back in Friday's starting lineup.

Josh Rutledge (illness) will be available in an emergency on Wednesday night versus the Cubs.

Rutledge is still getting over the upper respiratory infection that kept him out of the lineup on Monday and Tuesday. He'll be on the bench again Wednesday but could enter late as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement.

Josh Rutledge is out of the Rockies' starting lineup again on Tuesday against the Cubs.

Rutledge is battling an upper respiratory infection and could need a few more days off. The infielder has performed well as Troy Tulowitzki's (hip) fill-in at shortstop but obviously needs to be benched for now in fantasy leagues that allow for daily lineup changes.

Josh Rutledge was scratched from Monday's lineup due to illness.

He should be ready to go in a day or two. Rutledge has hit .375/.375/.656 with one homer and nine RBI over seven games since taking over shortstop for the injured Troy Tulowitzki (hip).

Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored in an 8-1 win over the Pirates on Friday.

Rutledge got the Rockies on the board with an RBI double in the third inning and later had a bases-clearing double in a seven-run seventh. The 25-year-old has hit .308 with three home runs and 16 RBI over 53 games this season and should get regular playing time over the next two weeks with Troy Tulowitzki on the disabled list. He should be a useful fantasy shortstop in the meantime.

Josh Rutledge went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Brewers.

The ninth inning bomb was just Rutledge's second home run of the season and his ninth RBI. It tied the game up at 2-2 briefly. Rutledge's would-be heroism was for naught, though, as the Colorado bullpen collapsed in the bottom of the ninth. In 89 ABs, the 25-year old is hitting .308 and doing a nice job in limited ABs.

Making his first appearance in 10 days, Josh Rutledge went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Rockies' second baseman on Saturday.

Rutledge was called up after Nolan Arenado got hurt last month, but the Rockies have refused to play him at third base and haven't found much for him to do at second or shortstop. It's disappointing, since he has played well in his limited action, hitting .286 with a homer in 35 at-bats.

Rockies recalled INF Josh Rutledge from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

He'll provide extra depth in the Rockies infield with Nolan Arenado on the disabled list. In his earlier stints with the Rockies this season, he hit .318/.375/.500 with a homer and four RBI in 22 at-bats. He's worth a look in mixed leagues if he looks to receive everyday at-bats while Arenado is sidelined.
