Braves acquired INF Jace Peterson from the Padres in the Justin Upton trade.
A former sandwich round pick, Peterson batted .307/.402/.447 with 16 steals between Double- and Triple-A last season and got a cup of coffee in the majors. He's a pretty solid middle infield prospect but didn't land in a great situation in Atlanta with Andrelton Simmons holding down shortstop and Jose Peraza on his way at second base. He doesn't have much power but has plenty of stolen base chops, having swiped 136 bags over 321 games on the farm. Peterson will see some time at the hot corner while Headley is out, but Alexi Amarista is expected to get the bulk of the starts.

Padres prospect Jace Peterson won California League Player of the Month honors in June.

The 58th-overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft, Peterson is a left-handed batting speedster who holds the McNeese State University record for stolen bases. Peterson, San Diego's 11th-rated prospect, according to MLB.com, is a few years away from the majors, but those in dynasty leagues should monitor his progress.
