Chris Rusin needed just seven pitches to record the final two outs Tuesday in Arizona to nail down his second save.
All-Star closer Greg Holland logged 51 pitches across three appearances over the past four days so he was getting a rest. Rusin handled the save chance with aplomb. The left-hander from the University of Kentucky is now 5-0 with a 2.31 ERA, two saves and a sparkling 1.06 WHIP. He has been quite the find for those in rotisserie leagues and formats using true middle relievers. Sep 13 - 1:15 AM

Chris Rusin allowed four runs - one earned - and six hits over 2 2/3 innings in Saturday's relief appearance against the Mets.

Rusin was thrust into action in the first inning after Tyler Chatwood (calf) checked out after retiring just one batter. All things considered, it wasn't a terrible outing, as he threw 38 of his 56 pitches for strikes before Kyle Freeland came on in the fourth inning.

Rockies manager Bud Black hinted that he'd prefer to keep Chris Rusin in the bullpen.

Rusin filled in admirably when Jon Gray went down with a foot injury on Thursday night, but Black likes having him as a long reliever and isn't eager to move him into the starting rotation. The Rockies will likely turn to either Jeff Hoffman or German Marquez to fill Gray's rotation spot.
Apr 15 - 6:16 PM

Chris Rusin pitched 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball in relief during Thursday’s win over the Giants.

With starter Jon Gray being forced out after three-plus innings due to a toe injury, Rusin was pushed into action on Thursday. He more than responded – with Madison Bumgarner pitching opposite him, at that – in surrendering just two hits over his 3 1/3 innings of work. The run on his line scored after he had left the game, via an Eduardo Nunez sacrifice fly off Adam Ottavino in the seventh inning. Last season, the 30-year-old Rusin pitched to a 3.74 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 69/23 K/BB ratio across 84 1/3 innings, making 29 appearances, seven of which were starts. If Gray is forced to miss time, Rusin could be in line to make a spot start or two in the coming weeks.
Apr 14 - 5:13 AM

Rockies activated LHP Chris Rusin from the 10-day disabled list.

Rusin got a late start to the season due to an oblique injury. He'll work in long relief, a role he was very effective in last season with a 2.58 ERA and 41/8 K/BB ratio over 45 1/3 innings.
Apr 9 - 1:09 PM

Chris Rusin (oblique) will start the season-opener for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday as part of his rehab assignment.

Rusin landed on the disabled list at the beginning of the season with a strained oblique he initially suffered in early March. In Thursday's rehab start, the 30-year-old southpaw is expected to throw in the vicinity of three innings or 45 pitches. It is looking like he could return to full health in the next week or so barring a setback.

Rockies placed LHP Chris Rusin on the 10-day disabled list with a strained oblique.

He suffered the injury a month ago. Rusin has been throwing and should be available for the big club before long.
Apr 2 - 1:58 PM

Chris Rusin (oblique) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Rusin threw about 25 pitches in his first bullpen session since suffering an oblique strain at the start of the month. It's unclear when he'll be ready for game action, but he's getting closer.
Mar 22 - 1:40 PM

Chris Rusin (oblique) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Monday.

Nick Groke of the Denver Post says Rusin is close to returning to Cactus League play. The left-hander hasn't pitched in a game since March 3 because of a right oblique strain, but he could be ready by Opening Day if there are no further setbacks.
Mar 20 - 1:40 PM

Chris Rusin exited an appearance Friday due to some tightness in his right side.

Rusin doesn't think the injury is a big deal, but he figures to be shut down for a little bit. The lefty is in line to function as a swingman for the Rockies.
Mar 3 - 5:53 PM

Chris Rusin tossed two shutout innings Sunday in his first spring start against the Diamondbacks.

It was an easy afternoon outing for the 30-year-old left-hander, who delivered a 1-2-3 first inning and worked around a leadoff single by Oswaldo Arcia in the second. Rusin is being stretched out as a starter this spring, but he figures to wind up in long relief.
Feb 26 - 5:06 PM

Rockies activated LHP Chris Rusin from the 15-day disabled list.

Rusin wound up missing six weeks with a left shoulder strain. He returns to a long relief role.

Rockies placed LHP Chris Rusin on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder.

The injury opens the door for Jorge De La Rosa to return to the starting rotation. It's poor timing as Rusin was coming off his best start of the season Wednesday against the Dodgers (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R). Shoulder injuries can be tricky so we wouldn't expect a quick recovery. Rusin owns a middling 4.12 ERA over 12 outings this year (seven starts).

Chris Rusin combined with four relievers on a shutout of the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Rusin allowed three hits over six innings before being taken out in a double-switch in the seventh. If the Rockies hadn't scored that inning, Rusin would have remained winless in seven starts this season. The Rockies, though, did take a 1-0 lead that the bullpen held on to from there. Rusin isn't any sort of option in fantasy leagues.

Chris Rusin was hit hard in Sunday's loss to the Giants, surrendering six runs on 11 hits over his five frames.

Rusin walked three and struck out three in the contest. The Giants got to him early and often in this one, scoring all six of their runs in the first four innings, including a solo homer by Denard Span. Now 1-3 on the season, Rusin will carry a 4.75 ERA and 1.51 WHIP into Friday's start against the Padres in San Diego.
