Tigers acquired RHP Zach Miner from the Royals in exchange for cash considerations.

Miner is a former Tiger who has made all of his 157 career appearances as a member of Detroit. None of those appearances have come since 2009, though, and he'll merely represent depth at Triple-A.

Royals re-signed RHP Zach Miner to a minor league contract.

Miner returned from Tommy John surgery this season and posted a 5.23 ERA and 44/28 K/BB ratio over 66 2/3 innings between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Toledo. The 29-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2009 as a member of the Tigers.

Royals activated RHP Zach Miner from the disabled list; assigned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Miner underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last May. He had a smooth and quick recovery, and is about ready to begin pitching again in the minors.

Royals signed RHP Zach Miner to a minor league contract.

Miner was non-tendered by the Tigers earlier this month. He missed all of the 2010 season following Tommy John surgery and posted an ugly 4.29 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 92 1/3 innings in 2009. He is probably going to open the 2011 season in the starting rotation at Triple-A Omaha.

Tigers non-tendered RHP Zach Miner.

Just a formality, as Miner was designated for assignment earlier this week after missing the entire 2010 season following Tommy John surgery. There's reportedly mutual interest between the two sides, so Miner could still return at a lesser salary. Joel Zumaya and Armando Galarraga will be back, as expected.

Tigers designated RHP Zach Miner for assignment.

Miner, 28, registered a 4.29 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 92 1/3 innings in 2009 for Dertoit, working both as a starter and reliever, then sat out for all of 2010 because of Tommy John elbow surgery. His removal from the 40-man roster clears room for new designated hitter Victor Martinez.

Zach Miner underwent Tommy John elbow surgery on Friday.

As a reliever, he should be back to full strength in a little under a year. "Everything went well and he's on his way back home to start his rehab," Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said after the procedure. "Our hope is that by him getting the surgery at this point that he will be either ready to go at the beginning of next year or shortly thereafter."

Tigers reliever Zach Miner is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Friday in Los Angeles.

Miner met with noted orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum on Wednesday in L.A. and the major elbow procedure was recommended. The 28-year-old will try to work back to full health by the middle of next season.

Zach Miner (elbow) will visit with noted orthopedist Lewis Yocum next Wednesday.

The meeting should shed some light on whether Miner will undergo season-ending elbow surgery or try to rehab. An MRI last week revealed a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.

Zach Miner has been diagnosed with a partial tear in the UCL of his right elbow and is considering having surgery.

Miner has been on the disabled list since the start of the season and can be written off for the rest of the year if he opts to undergo the elbow procedure. He should make a decision within the next week.

Zach Miner was scheduled to be examined Friday after experiencing discomfort in his elbow Thursday during an appearance in extended spring training.

It was looking like Miner was about two weeks away without any setbacks. However, this appears to be one.

Zach Miner (elbow) has begun throwing long-toss.

Miner is slowly making a recovery from elbow tendinitis and is currently working out at the Tigers' spring training complex in Lakeland, Florida. "Zach is in the long-toss phase, throwing from 120 feet very well," head trainer Kevin Rand said this weekend. "If everything goes well on Tuesday, he will start a mound progression." He's hoping to return in May.
