Hawkins had a monster performance during Cactus League action, batting .412 (14-for-34) with four homers, three doubles, and a 1.282 OPS over 18 games. The arrow is suddenly pointing up for the 2012 first-round pick, but he needs to make better contact. Playing in Double-A will be a good test for him.

White Sox outfield prospect Courtney Hawkins went 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk for High-A Winston-Salem on Wednesday.

Hawkins, the 13th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, is hitting .253/.334/.466 with 25 doubles, four triples, and 19 home runs for the season. He has struggled to make consistent contact, racking up high strikeout totals while being moved from center field to left field, but there's still upside here. Hawkins will likely open 2015 as a 21-year-old in Double-A Birmingham.

White Sox prospect OF Courtney Hawkins went 1-for-3 with his 18th home run of the season on Sunday for High-A Winston-Salem.

The home run was Hawkins’ first of the month as well as his first since July 30. The 20-year-old outfielder batted .178/.249/.384 with 19 home runs and a 160-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 103 games at Winston-Salem in 2013, so the fact that he’s batting .251/.332/.460 with 18 home runs and a 132-49 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 113 games this season while repeating the level is very encouraging. He’s currently battling through his worst month of the season (.605 OPS in 15 August games), but Hawkins should still open 2015 at Double-A Birmingham.

White Sox outfield prospect Courtney Hawkins went 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk for High-A Winston Salem on Wednesday.

For the season, he has 107 strikeouts in 407 plate appearances (26.3 percent), and is now primarily playing left field. Two years ago, the White Sox drafted Hawkins 13th overall, but he has fallen off every top 100 list, and would not even be on top 10 White Sox prospects were it not for the poor state of their farm system.

Hawkins is hitting a respectable .295/.337/.590, but has and ugly 25 strikeouts in 86 plate appearances. If Hawkins cannot cut down on his strikeouts, he won't be able to get past pitchers in the high minor leagues, let alone get out of High-A.

He also has a league-leading 15 RBI to go with his 14 strikeouts (tied for 5th most). Hawkins' overall potential took a big hit with his dismal 2013 season, so it is encouraging that he is hitting well to start 2014.

The White Sox "love" top prospect Courtney Hawkins' ceiling, writes's Phil Rogers.

White Sox assistant general manager Buddy Bell on Sunday said Hawkins has 40 homer, 130 RBI upside. To come anywhere close to reaching it, Hawkins needs to improve his grasp of the strike zone and eliminate holes in his elongated swing. The 13th overall pick in 2012's draft struggled through a horrific 2013 season as a 19-year-old, slashing .178/.249/.384 at High-A Winston-Salem. Hawkins could end up being a poor man's Nelson Cruz.

White Sox selected high-school OF Courtney Hawkins with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Raw in the "art" of hitting, Hawkins nevertheless possesses explosive bat speed and power to spare. Hawkins' speed is only average, but he profiles as an asset on defense. Still only 18, however, Hawkins will likely spend many years on the farm before arriving in "The Show."
