Phillies outfield prospect Roman Quinn went 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base for High-A Clearwater on Monday.
Quinn is hitting .260/.343/.366 with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs, and 23 stolen bases for the season. He may never hit enough to be anything more than a fourth outfielder and pinch runner, but he has elite speed and has already turned into an above-average center fielder. His permanent shift to center field coincided with J.P. Crawford's promotion, and Quinn is unlikely to return to shortstop, save an emergency situation due to injuries. Aug 5 - 12:27 PM

Phillies prospect SS Roman Quinn enjoyed his best game of the season on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for High-A Clearwater.

The home run was Quinn's first since May 30 of last year, as his 2013 campaign was cut short by a fractured wrist, and he then suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in November which required surgery and kept him off the field until late May. The 21-year-old switch hitter is batting .266/.329/.313 with one extra-base hit (the home run), three stolen bases and 15 strikeouts in 16 games since returning to action with High-A Clearwater. However, he has shown signs of coming around over the past week, with a .470 batting average (8-for-17) in his last four games.

Phillies top shortstop prospect Roman Quinn ruptured his right Achilles tendon while running sprints near his Florida home and is out indefinitely.

"It just popped," Joe Jordan, the Phillies' director of player development, said. "He thought he stepped in a hole. It's really a tough one." Quinn, 20, was recently ranked by Baseball America as Philadelphia's fifth-best prospect. He was even higher entering the 2013 season, but missed significant game action with a fractured bone in his left wrist. Quinn has already undergone surgery on his Achilles and begun a rehab program, and he might soon go under the knife again to improve the prognosis of his troublesome wrist. "Obviously, next year is going to be impacted," Jordan said. "We just have to see how he heals. We might be looking at the second half of the year. It would be great if we can get that."
