Rosell Herrera went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Rockies.
Herrera has already mashed two home runs in the early going this spring, the second of which came with one on and one out in the ninth inning on Saturday. This power doesn't figure to last. Herrera conked just three dingers a year ago, when he was playing for the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate. He's far more sturdy as a speed threat, having stolen a combined 56 bases between Double- and Triple-A over the past two seasons. He's looking to impress enough this spring to land a job as a bench utility infielder on the Reds' Opening Day roster. Feb 24 - 6:17 PM

Mark Sheldon of reports the Reds have signed utilityman Rosell Herrera to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp.

The former shortstop split time between third base and the outfield in 2017 with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate. The speedster has a contact-oriented approach at the plate and slashed .278/.351/.394 with three homers, 59 runs scored and 20 stolen bases in 103 games for Albuquerque. He swiped 36 bags the year before. The 25-year-old will try to latch on to the club as a utilityman.

Rockies re-signed OF Rosell Herrera to a minor league contract.

Rather than leaving as a minor league free agent, the 24-year-old has opted to remain with the Rockies for another season. In 126 games at Double-A Hartford he slashed .292/.374/.379 with five homers, 66 RBI and 36 stolen bases.

Rockies re-signed OF Rosell Herrera to a minor league contract.

Herrera was non-tendered earlier this month. A former top-100 prospect as recently as 2014, Herrera hit .260/.314/.354 for the Rockies' High-A affiliate this past season. The lack of interest he found on the open market speaks to his prospect status at this point.

Rockies non-tendered OF Rosell Herrera.

Herrera was rated a top-100 prospect by and Baseball America in early 2014 after posting a .933 OPS with 16 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 126 games at Low-A Asheville during the 2013 season. But those numbers have proven completely fluky over the last two summers and the 23-year-old outfielder won't get much love on the free agent market this winter. He hasn't seen a pitch above High-A Modesto.

Rockies optioned INF Rosell Herrera to Double-A New Britain.

Herrera picked up three hits in 13 spring at-bats. Just 22, the young infielder still has plenty of developing to do.

Rockies prospect shortstop Rosell Herrera went 3-for-3 with a home run and two walks for High-A Modesto on Wednesday.

Herrera has gone ice cold since mid-June, hitting .229/.309/.351 over 34 games, striking out 25 times. Despite the concerns that he will need to move to third base full time, Herrera is still playing shortstop about 60 percent of the time.

Rockies shortstop prospect Rosell Herrera went 2-for-5 with two home runs for High-A Modesto on Wednesday, raising his season line to .313/.347/.393.

Herrera missed nearly six weeks with a sore wrist, and has been on fire since his return, hitting .400/.455/.600 with two doubles and two home runs in 10 games. He is likely to move to third base due to Troy Tulowitzki, though the emergence of Nolan Arenado could be an issue. In his last two games, he has one single, two doubles, and two home runs.

Rockies purchased the contract of SS Rosell Herrera from Class-A Asheville.

Herrera broke out in a big way in 2013, batting .343/.419/.515 with 16 home runs and 21 stolen bases at Asheville. Still just 21, Herrera is a few years away from the majors. Adding him to the 40-man roster ensures that he won't be snatched by another team in December's Rule 5 Draft, though.
