Carpenter has been on the roster for over three months and pitched well enough in a low-leverage role. He posted a 3.55 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 38 innings. A 2009 ninth-round pick, Carpenter will be back up later this summer.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP David Carpenter from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Not to be confused with Houston's righty reliever David Carpenter, the Angels' Carpenter will be making his first appearance on a big-league roster. A 2009 ninth-round pick, Carpenter's put up excellent minor-league numbers, compiling a 1.73 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 148/45 K/BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings of work. Just three of those frames have come at the Triple-A level, however. With Scott Downs nursing a minor ankle injury, Carpenter's first cup of coffee could be brief.
