Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.
Collins had been functioning as a left-handed bat off the bench for the Tigers, drawing the occasional start at designated hitter, but his services are no longer needed with Victor Martinez set to return on Friday. Collins hit .275/.315/.490 with two homers and seven RBI in his 51 at-bats with the big league club. Jun 18 - 10:25 PM

Tyler Collins hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning of Thursday afternoon's loss to the Athletics.

Collins' one-out, three-run bomb off Dan Otero in the ninth inning drew the Tigers to within 7-5 and forced the A's to bring in closer Tyler Clippard to secure the victory by that score. Collins was called up on May 19, replacing the ailing Victor Martinez (knee) on the active roster. The homer was the second of the 24-year-old's young career. Given that he was batting .248/.338/.301 in 32 Triple-A games this season, there's not much fantasy upside here.

The Tigers have yet to make an official announcement about the move, but Victor Martinez (knee) could be placed on the disabled list. Collins, 24, appeared in 18 games with the Tigers last season and is batting .248/.338/.301 across 32 games in Triple-A this season.

Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.

Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez won the final two bench spots. Collins should get a look at some point.
Mar 30 - 8:41 AM

Tyler Collins doubled twice and drove in three runs against the Astros on Sunday.

Collins got hyped last spring, won a spot on the Tigers bench and then got all of 14 major league at-bats before being sent down on April 18, never to return until September. He's again a candidate for a bench spot this spring, but it'll hinge on whether the Tigers want to carry five outfielders or six infielders.
Mar 8 - 5:54 PM

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press believes that Tyler Collins will claim one of the final bench spots on the Tigers' Opening Day roster.

The Tigers have been in the market for a left-handed power bat for their bench, and the best option may already be in-house with Collins. The 24-year-old outfielder hit .263/.335/.423 with 18 homers and 62 RBI in 121 contests at Triple-A Toledo in 2014.

Tyler Collins came through in a big way for the Tigers on Saturday, delivering a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning to give the Tigers the lead in an eventual 3-2 victory over the Royals.

Collins has been used sparingly this season, but is now hitting .300 (6-for-20) with a homer and four RBI in his limited time with the big league club. He is certainly entering the discussion to be included on the postseason roster as an extra left-handed power bat on the bench.

Tigers purchased the contract of OF Tyler Collins from Double-A Erie.

Collins earned an Opening Day roster spot by posting an .879 OPS in 59 plate appearances this spring. He made some noise last year at Double-A, but the 23-year-old is doubtful to be fantasy-relevant in 2014.

Tyler Collins currently projects to make the Tigers' Opening Day roster.

Collins has slowed down after getting off to a hot start this spring, but he's in position to make the Opening Day roster assuming the Tigers don't make a last-minute move. The 23-year-old has never played above Double-A.

Tyler Collins, who has been talked up as a left field possibility for the Tigers, went 0-for-4 on Sunday and is 1-for-11 in his last four games.

Collins is still slugging .692 in 39 at-bats for the spring, but if he keeps slumping, any possibility of him making the Tigers will evaporate. That'd be for the best anyway; Collins spent last year in high-A ball and needs to open this season in Double-A.

Tyler Collins tripled and doubled in his two at-bats off the bench Friday to help the Tigers edge the Braves 2-1.

Collins, 22, hit .290/.371/.429 at Single-A Lakeland last season and is due to move up to Double-A. The 2011 sixth-round pick does a little bit of everything at the plate and is one of the Tigers' top position prospects. Still, he's going to need to turn some of last year's doubles into homers if he's going to make it as a regular in an outfield corner.
