Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.
Collins had just two hits in 20 at-bats and it probably didn't help his cause that he flipped off the Comerica Park crowd after losing a ball in center field on Monday. Francisco Rodriguez took his roster spot. Apr 27 - 3:27 PM

Tyler Collins will not be suspended for appearing to flip off the Comerica Park crowd on Monday.

Collins made a gesture and appeared to mouth an obscenity after getting booed for botching a ball in center field on Monday night. But the MLB commissioner's office didn't find the incident worthy of a significant punishment. Collins will probably be in Toledo in a couple weeks anyway.

Major League Baseball is reviewing an obscene gesture made by Tyler Collins during Monday's game against the Athletics.

Collins was booed after botching a ball in center field and responded by flipping off the crowd at Comerica Park. It also looked like he mouthed an obscenity. Jonathan Papelbon was suspended seven games in 2014 for grabbing his crotch after getting booed by fans in Philadelphia, so there is some precedent for making obscene gestures at fans. It's not a good look for Collins, who is hitting .100 this year in 10 appearances.

Tyler Collins is starting in center field for the Tigers on Monday against the Pirates.

Collins will bat eighth against Bucs left-hander Jonathan Niese. Anthony Gose, a left-handed hitter, will be available off the bench. The rest of the lineup is fairly standard for the Tigers in this series-opening afternoon tilt at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Tyler Collins tripled in two runs against the Braves in Sunday's win.

The 25-year-old Collins, who burst on the scene two springs ago to make the Detroit roster, had to be the Tiger most disappointed by the Justin Upton signing. He wasn't bad in his major league action last year, hitting .266/.316/.417 in 192 at-bats, but he didn't convince the team that he'd be a capable long-term regular. He still has an option year left, so he'll probably spend a good part of this season in the minors. He might, however, make the Opening Day roster with Cameron Maybin on the DL. He's batting .246/.469/.654 in 26 at-bats.
Mar 20 - 4:12 PM

Tyler Collins went 1-for-4 with a three-run triple as the Tigers closed out the season with a 6-0 victory over the White Sox.

Collins broke the game wide open as his three-run triple in the seventh inning made it a 5-0 game. He finishes with a .266/.316/.417 triple-slash line along with four home runs, 25 RBI, and 18 runs scored in 206 plate appearances.

Tyler Collins finished 1-for-4 with a three-run home run as the Tigers topped the Rangers on Monday.

Collins broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a three-run home run off of Colby Lewis. It's only his second home run since his promotion on July 31 and his fourth on the year. He's hitting .260/.302/.409 with 20 RBI in 192 plate appearances.

Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.

Collins had been functioning as a left-handed bat off the bench for the Tigers, drawing the occasional start at designated hitter, but his services are no longer needed with Victor Martinez set to return on Friday. Collins hit .275/.315/.490 with two homers and seven RBI in his 51 at-bats with the big league club.

Tyler Collins hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning of Thursday afternoon's loss to the Athletics.

Collins' one-out, three-run bomb off Dan Otero in the ninth inning drew the Tigers to within 7-5 and forced the A's to bring in closer Tyler Clippard to secure the victory by that score. Collins was called up on May 19, replacing the ailing Victor Martinez (knee) on the active roster. The homer was the second of the 24-year-old's young career. Given that he was batting .248/.338/.301 in 32 Triple-A games this season, there's not much fantasy upside here.

Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.

Andrew Romine and Hernan Perez won the final two bench spots. Collins should get a look at some point.

Tyler Collins doubled twice and drove in three runs against the Astros on Sunday.

Collins got hyped last spring, won a spot on the Tigers bench and then got all of 14 major league at-bats before being sent down on April 18, never to return until September. He's again a candidate for a bench spot this spring, but it'll hinge on whether the Tigers want to carry five outfielders or six infielders.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press believes that Tyler Collins will claim one of the final bench spots on the Tigers' Opening Day roster.

The Tigers have been in the market for a left-handed power bat for their bench, and the best option may already be in-house with Collins. The 24-year-old outfielder hit .263/.335/.423 with 18 homers and 62 RBI in 121 contests at Triple-A Toledo in 2014.
