Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press believes that Tyler Collins will claim one of the final bench spots on the Tigers' Opening Day roster.
The Tigers have been in the market for a left-handed power bat for their bench, and the best option may already be in-house with Collins. The 24-year-old outfielder hit .263/.335/.423 with 18 homers and 62 RBI in 121 contests at Triple-A Toledo in 2014. Dec 26 - 10:12 PM

Tyler Collins came through in a big way for the Tigers on Saturday, delivering a pinch-hit RBI single in the seventh inning to give the Tigers the lead in an eventual 3-2 victory over the Royals.

Collins has been used sparingly this season, but is now hitting .300 (6-for-20) with a homer and four RBI in his limited time with the big league club. He is certainly entering the discussion to be included on the postseason roster as an extra left-handed power bat on the bench.

Tigers recalled OF Tyler Collins from Triple-A Toledo.

Collins hit his first major league home run Monday against the Indians. He'll function as an extra outfielder this month.

Tigers optioned OF Tyler Collins to Triple-A Toledo.

The Tigers have called up Justin Miller in his place, as they'll go with 13 pitchers for now. Collins had two hits in just 14 at-bats while up with the big club.

Tigers purchased the contract of OF Tyler Collins from Double-A Erie.

Collins earned an Opening Day roster spot by posting an .879 OPS in 59 plate appearances this spring. He made some noise last year at Double-A, but the 23-year-old is doubtful to be fantasy-relevant in 2014.

Tyler Collins currently projects to make the Tigers' Opening Day roster.

Collins has slowed down after getting off to a hot start this spring, but he's in position to make the Opening Day roster assuming the Tigers don't make a last-minute move. The 23-year-old has never played above Double-A.

Tyler Collins, who has been talked up as a left field possibility for the Tigers, went 0-for-4 on Sunday and is 1-for-11 in his last four games.

Collins is still slugging .692 in 39 at-bats for the spring, but if he keeps slumping, any possibility of him making the Tigers will evaporate. That'd be for the best anyway; Collins spent last year in high-A ball and needs to open this season in Double-A.
Mar 23 - 4:58 PM

Tyler Collins tripled and doubled in his two at-bats off the bench Friday to help the Tigers edge the Braves 2-1.

Collins, 22, hit .290/.371/.429 at Single-A Lakeland last season and is due to move up to Double-A. The 2011 sixth-round pick does a little bit of everything at the plate and is one of the Tigers' top position prospects. Still, he's going to need to turn some of last year's doubles into homers if he's going to make it as a regular in an outfield corner.
