Rays designated RHP Angel Sanchez for assignment.

Sanchez has allowed 80 hits and 52 runs -- 48 earned -- in 61 1/3 innings this season between two different Double-A clubs. But he is only 24 years old and could draw interest from teams on the waiver wire.

Rays claimed RHP Angel Sanchez off waivers from the Marlins; optioned him to Double-A Montgomery.

Sanchez, 24, has posted a 6.88 ERA with just 30 strikeouts over 52 1/3 innings at the Double-A level this season. Obviously, he doesn't figure to be a candidate for the big league roster anytime soon.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Angel Sanchez from High-A Jupiter.

Sanchez made 25 starts over three levels for the Marlins this year, posting a 4.11 ERA in 131 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old is now protected from the Rule 5 Draft in December.

Marlins acquired RHPs Angel Sanchez, Steven Ames and Josh Wall from the Dodgers for RHP Ricky Nolasco.

Sanchez, 23, was ranked the eighth-best prospect in the Dodgers' system this winter by MLB.com. The right-hander is considered the highlight of the return package for the Marlins, but he's yet to pitch above High-A ball and owns a career 4.88 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 310 minor league innings. Miami's haul looks very uninspiring at first glance.
