Pirates recalled RHP Angel Sanchez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Sanchez has registered a 3.74 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 65/15 K/BB ratio in 55 1/3 innings this season out of the Indianapolis bullpen after missing all of 2016 following Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old right-hander will work in middle relief for Pittsburgh.

Pirates prospect Angel Sanchez hasn't allowed a run in 12 innings this season for Double-A Altoona.

He's gone six innings in both starts, allowing eight hits and one walk. Sanchez got lit up in the minors last year (2-14, 5.96 ERA) so it's nice to see him turn the corner. The 25-year-old has never made it past Double-A.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Josh Lindblom on the 40-man roster. Sanchez, 25, pitched for four different organizations in 2014 (Pirates, White Sox, Rays, Marlins) while posting a 5.96 ERA over 24 starts and one relief appearance between High-A and Double-A.

Sanchez, 24, has posted a 6.88 ERA with just 30 strikeouts over 52 1/3 innings at the Double-A level this season. Obviously, he doesn't figure to be a candidate for the big league roster anytime soon.
