Thad Weber - R - Blue Jays

Padres designated RHP Thad Weber for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Tim Stauffer on the 40-man roster. Weber made three appearances with the Padres earlier this season and owns a 3.93 ERA and 26/4 K/BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings over six starts in Triple-A. He could draw some interest on waivers.

Weber pitched well in three appearances, allowing just two runs over nine innings, but the Padres needed to add a fresh arm in their bullpen. He'll be back later this season.

Weber was called up for Tyson Ross, who went on the disabled list with a left shoulder subluxation. It's still unclear whether Weber will make the start in Ross' place on Tuesday or if he will be used in relief. Weber has a 4.91 ERA in 3 2/3 innings this year with the Padres.

The Padres needed another position player with Carlos Quentin facing a suspension. Weber allowed two runs over 3 2/3 innings in his lone appearance.

They cleared room on the active roster by designating Cody Ransom for assignment. Weber, who appeared in two games for the Tigers in 2012, will serve as the eighth reliever in the Padres bullpen.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Weber spent the majority of this season with the Tigers organization before being claimed off waivers from the Padres in August. The 28-year-old right-hander is nothing more than organizational depth.

Weber allowed 10 hits and four earned runs in four innings earlier this season with Detroit. The 27-year-old is doubtful to suddenly find success with San Diego.

The 27-year-old right-hander returns to a 3.73 ERA and 58/13 K/BB ratio over 60 1/3 innings this year at the Triple-A level. Weber isn't much of a prospect, but he has already had two brief stints with the Tigers this season. He'll be back later this summer.

Tigers purchased the contract of RHP Thad Weber from Triple-A Toledo.

Weber isn't much of a prospect, but has a career 3.91 ERA in parts of four seasons in the minors. He'll be used in long relief by the Tigers initially.

The Blue Jays are optimistic that the left-hander will be sidelined closer to four weeks. All things considered, that's about as good as Happ and the club could have hoped for. May 9
	6	Dustin McGowan D.L. Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo. McGowan allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings with High-A Dunedin and notched four strikeouts. The Blue Jays can't count on him given his lengthy injury history, but he could be an option to join the bullpen later this month if all goes well. May 17
	7	Drew Hutchison D.L. Drew Hutchison (elbow) is on track to face live hitters in about three weeks. Hutchison is currently making his way back from Tommy John surgery last August. While the 22-year-old right-hander is unlikely to see any game action until late in the season, he feels good about his progress. "You always want to do more but you know you have to follow the process and do what they tell you to do because that’s what’s in your best interest," said Hutchison. "I feel good, which is good, but you also realize that it’s the process and you need to follow the process." May 8
	8	Kyle Drabek D.L. Kyle Drabek (elbow) expects to throw live batting practice in the next week or two. Drabek threw a bullpen session Monday in extended spring training. He's coming back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career, so the Blue Jays figure to take things slow, but he could be looking at a return around midseason if all goes well. May 8

Santos will be out until after the All-Star break following surgery to remove bone chips and spurs from his right elbow. May 19
	3	Darren Oliver Sidelined Darren Oliver said Thursday that he's been dealing with a sore pitching shoulder for the last 7-10 days. Oliver has allowed a run in each of his last two appearances. When asked if he might need a DL stint, the lefty didn't dismiss the possibility. "I don’t know," he said. "I’m sure we’ll talk about it at some point." Consider him day-to-day for now. May 23
