Tigers released RHP Luke Putkonen.
Putkonen was re-signed to a minor league contract in late April, but he made just two appearances at Triple-A Toledo before developing more elbow problems. Tigers re-signed RHP Luke Putkonen to a minor league contract.

He was released by the club late last month but now finds himself back in the organization. Putkonen holds a career 4.66 ERA over 44 relief appearances with the Tigers. He'll provide middle relief depth at Triple-A Toledo.

Tigers released RHP Luke Putkonen.

He was reassigned to minor league camp on March 17. Putkonen pitched well out of the Tigers bullpen in 2014 before an elbow injury ended his season prematurely. He should have little trouble latching on elsewhere.

Tigers reassigned RHP Luke Putkonen and LHPs Omar Duran and Joe Mantiply to minor league camp.

No surprises here. Putkonen had a 3.03 ERA and 28/9 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 innings out of the Tigers' bullpen in 2013, but he made just two appearances in the majors last season due to an elbow injury.

Tigers sent RHP Luke Putkonen outright to Triple-A Toledo.

Putkonen was designated for assignment after the Tigers signed LHP Tom Gorzelanny and cleared waivers. The right-hander missed most of the 2014 season due to a bone spur in his right elbow, which required surgery in June. Putkonen showed promise out of the bullpen in 2013, finishing with a 3.03 ERA and a 28/9 K/BB ratio in 29 2/3 innings.

Luke Putkonen (elbow) is back to throwing at 100 percent, Putkonen's agent said.

The 28-year-old threw just 2 2/3 innings last year before elbow issues sidelined him, eventually leading to season-ending arthroscopic surgery. Putkonen had a 3.03 ERA in 30 appearances in 2013 and should contribute as a member of the Tigers bullpen this season.

Tigers designated RHP Luke Putkonen for assignment.

The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Tom Gorzelanny on the 40-man roster. Putkonen missed most of last season with elbow issues and owns a 4.66 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 over 44 relief appearances in the majors.

Tigers activated RHP Luke Putkonen from the 60-day disabled list.

Putkonen missed most of the season with elbow issues before finally undergoing surgery in June to remove a bone spur. He'll be fine for spring training and will compete for a bullpen job.

Luke Putkonen (elbow) is set to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Low-A West Michigan.

Putkonen has been out since April with an elbow injury and underwent surgery in June to remove a bone spur. He should be an option for the Tigers' bullpen at some point in September, but they're not going to rush him back. Putkonen owns a 4.66 career major league ERA.

Luke Putkonen is close to beginning a rehab assignment following June surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow.

Putkonen has been on the disabled list since April 21. Unfortunately, he's not going to have much of a chance to pitch in the minors after such a long absence, so even if he's activated by the Tigers in September, it probably won't be to pitch meaningful innings.

Tigers transferred RHP Luke Putkonen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the addition of Pat McCoy. Putkonen is out indefinitely after undergoing elbow surgery earlier this month.

Luke Putkonen underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove a posterior osteophyte from his right elbow.

Putkonen got two opinions last month that said he didn't need an operation, but he wound up having one as it turns out. He'll be re-evaluated after 6-8 weeks of rest and rehab before the Tigers determine a possible timetable for the right-hander.

A second opinion from Dr. James Andrews has confirmed that Luke Putkonen (elbow) does not need surgery.

"There's no talk of surgery," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. "Just treatment and rehab." Putkonen, who has been on the disabled list since mid-April with right elbow inflammation, was recently pulled off his rehab assignment due to renewed soreness. It's not clear how much longer he'll be sidelined.

Luke Putkonen (elbow) has been recalled from his rehab assignment and will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.

Well, that's never a good sign. Putkonen had appeared in three rehab games but is evidently still having issues with his pitching elbow. He went on the DL in mid-April with what was called elbow inflammation at the time. It sounds like the injury is worse than originally thought, but we'll just have to see what Dr. Andrews says.

Luke Putkonen (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Class A West Michigan.

Putkonen has been sidelined for two weeks with right elbow inflammation. The Tigers could send him to Triple-A once he's back to full health.
