Gavin Cecchini went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Saturday's win over the Braves.
Cecchini made the start at second base and made the most of it with a pair of run-scoring hits against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. The first came in the second inning, when he hit a scorching line drive that Ozzie Albies could only get a glove on, ricocheting into center field to plate a run. He later pounded a floating knuckleball to the base of the left-center field wall for an RBI double. Offense has been scarce for the 23-year-old in his 23 games with the big club this year, with Saturday's game raising his overall line to .226/.262/.306. Sep 16 - 10:08 PM

Mets recalled INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini will give the Mets much-needed infield depth. He was batting .267/.329/.380 through 497 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level.
Aug 17 - 3:20 PM

Mets optioned INF Gavin Cecchini to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini had four hits -- including a homer -- in 14 at-bats in his brief time with the big club. There was no longer room for him with Asdrubal Cabrera back from the disabled list.
Jun 23 - 5:52 PM

Gavin Cecchini finished 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's game at L.A. Dodgers.

Cecchini's first major league homer came after just nine at-bats and it was especially impressive coming off of Clayton Kershaw. If he keeps hitting well he might be in line for considerable playing time while Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) and Neil Walker (hamstring) are on the shelf.

Mets recalled INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini, a former top-100 prospect, has batted just .249/.313/.349 with three home runs and three stolen bases in 62 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 23-year-old could get a good deal of playing time while Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) and Neil Walker (hamstring) are sidelined, but he seems doubtful to carry significant fantasy value.
Jun 15 - 3:52 PM

The Mets haven't officially recalled infielder Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com writes that Cecchini is "in limbo" and his status depends on how the Mets feel about Asdrubal Cabrera's thumb injury. We should know one way or the other within the next couple of hours.
May 8 - 3:35 PM

The Mets are expected to promote Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Adam Rubin, still breaking Mets news. The corresponding roster move isn't known, but it's possible Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) will require a trip to the disabled list. The club could also wait on Cabrera for another couple of days while sending Sunday's spot-starter Adam Wilk down to the minors. Cecchini, 23, is batting .254/.316/.369 with two home runs and nine RBI through 30 games in Triple-A this year. It's not Amed Rosario's time just yet.
May 8 - 11:56 AM

Mets infield prospect Gavin Cecchini picked up three hits for Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

One of those hits was a double, and he scored a run for the 51s as well. All Cecchini has done is hit in the past few seasons, and while his defensive profile has taken a big hit, he keeps getting better with the bat. New York doesn't have any room for him, but it's hard to imagine he's not a future starter at the keystone, even if it's not for the Mets.
Apr 13 - 2:02 PM

Mets optioned INF Gavin Cecchini to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini, 23, had a brief stint with the Mets down the stretch last season. He doesn't really hard the arm to play the left side of the infield, but the Mets are hopeful he could find a home at second base.
Mar 22 - 8:20 AM

Mets purchased the contract of INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Cecchini, a first-round pick in 2012, earned the call-up after batting .325/.390/.448 with eight homers and 55 RBI over 117 games this season in Triple-A. The 22-year-old has primarily played shortstop in the minors, but he made three starts at second base this season. It's unclear what role he'll have down the stretch, but the Mets decided to add him to their 40-man roster and give him his first taste of the majors.

Mets SS prospect Gavin Cecchini generated three hits Monday in a win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He's gone 11 for his last 14 at the plate with a homer and five RBI over his last three contests. The 2012 first-round pick seems to have outgrown Triple-A. His .329 average ranks third in the Pacific Coast League this season. He also ranks fifth in hits (137) and sixth in on base percentage (.391). The 22-year-old could see time with the big club once the Triple-A season ends.

Mets SS prospect Gavin Cecchini provided four hits Saturday in a win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

He singled three times, doubled and scored twice as the 51s held on for a 10-8 win over visiting Fresno. Saturday was Cecchini's fourth straight multi-hit game and his second four-hit contest of the year. He's hit .500 during his six-game hitting streak while boosting his average from .309 to .324. The 2012 first-round pick doesn't have much left to prove in the minor leagues. It's possible we could see him in the majors next month when rosters expand.

Mets prospect shortstop Gavin Cecchini (shoulder) will play in an intrasquad game on Tuesday.

Good news for Cecchini, who needed a cortisone injection in his left shoulder last week. The 22-year-old was shut down after four games in the Arizona Fall League due to the same shoulder, so the hope is that the issue won't linger.

Mets prospect shortstop Gavin Cecchini received a cortisone injection for inflammation in his left shoulder.

Cecchini was shut down from the Arizona Fall League due to an issue with the same shoulder. There's reason for minor concern at this point, but he's expected to be back on the field in the next week or so. The 22-year-old Cecchini made some nice strides at the plate last season by batting .317/.377/.442 with seven homers and 51 RBI over 109 games with Double-A Binghamton. If he can stay healthy, he's likely not far off from the majors.

Top prospects Gavin Cecchini and Dominic Smith were among the Mets minor league players invited to big league spring training on Friday.

Cecchini, the 12th overall selection from the 2012 draft, slashed .317/.377/.442 with seven homers and 51 RBI in 109 contests in his first full season at Double-A Binghampton in 2015. Smith, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2013 draft, is fresh off an impressive season in his own right, hitting .305/.354/.417 with six homers and 79 RBI at High-A St. Lucie.
