Zach Eflin (knees) began a throwing program on Wednesday.
Eflin had a patellar tendinopathy on both knees in August after dealing with pain in his knees he says since Little League. "All of a sudden to go out there and do what I love with no pain, It’s an unbelievable feeling," Eflin said. "I never thought that this day would come that I would be pain-free throwing. I thought that I would always go through it, that it was always something I could deal with it. I’m really, really excited to see what my body can handle when it’s healthy." Eflin will compete in spring training for a spot in the Phillies' rotation. Dec 4 - 9:57 AM

Phillies activated RHP Zach Eflin from the 60-day disabled list.

Eflin's season ended in August after he was diagnosed with patellar tendinopathy in both of his knees and a stress fracture in his right foot. The 22-year-old right-hander is expected to be fully recovered by the start of spring training next February and should be given a shot at an Opening Day rotation spot.

Zach Eflin is scheduled to undergo left knee surgery within the next few days.

Eflin's season ended seven weeks ago after he was diagnosed with patellar tendinopathy in both of his knees and a stress fracture in his right foot. He had his right knee surgically repaired on August 19, and now doctors will take care of the other knee. Eflin is aiming to be fully recovered by the start of spring training in February.
Sep 29 - 10:02 AM

Zach Eflin underwent surgery on his right knee Friday to repair his patellar tendon.

He's expected to undergo the same procedure on his left knee. Eflin is done for the season but the Phillies hope that he'll be 100 percent for spring training.
Aug 19 - 4:23 PM

Phillies transferred RHP Zach Eflin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Emmanuel Burriss. Eflin, who is dealing with patellar tendinopathy in both knees and a stress fracture in his right foot, is now effectively ruled out for the season.
Aug 19 - 4:04 PM

In addition to his knee injury, Zach Eflin is also dealing with a stress fracture in his right foot.

The stress fracture came to light in a recent MRI. Eflin will receive a second opinion on his injured knees, but manager Pete Mackanin admitted his return is a long shot. Assuming Eflin is done for the year, he'll finish his rookie campaign with three wins and a 5.54 ERA in 11 starts. Adam Morgan will absorb Eflin's spot in the starting rotation.
Aug 13 - 6:05 PM

Zach Eflin (knee) might not return this season.

"I don’t know as of right now," the right-hander responded when asked whether his 2016 has come to a close here in early August. Eflin was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with patellar tendinopathy in both of his knees. He'll undergo treatment for the next few weeks. There is no exact rehab timetable.
Aug 10 - 12:53 PM

Phillies placed RHP Zach Eflin on the 15-day DL with patellar tendinopathy in both knees.

The move comes after Eflin was rocked for the third straight start Monday against the Dodgers. The rookie right-hander now owns a 5.54 ERA through 11 starts on the year. The injury would explain his recent struggles. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined.
Aug 9 - 3:47 PM

Zach Eflin was pounded for seven runs in three innings by the Dodgers on Monday.

Eflin dropped to 3-5 with a 5.54 ERA. If the Phillies were healthier, they'd probably take a look at someone else in the rotation right about now. As is, they seem more likely to stick with the rookie.
Aug 9 - 1:09 AM

Zach Eflin coughed up a 6-0 lead but escaped with a no-decision in Tuesday's 13-8 slugfest win over the Giants.

The Phillies got to Madison Bumgarner early, but the Giants bounced back in the middle innings against Eflin. The young right-hander shut the Pirates out a couple starts ago but has since given up 13 runs over his last two outings. He'll try for better results against the Padres on Sunday.
Aug 2 - 10:48 PM

Zach Eflin surrendered seven earned runs over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.

Miami jumped all over Eflin and kept it rolling against the Philadelphia bullpen, racking up a total of 11 runs on 16 hits and seven walks. Eflin yielded nine of those hits and four of those walks. It was a much different picture than his last outing, a three-hit shutout against the Pirates. The young right-hander will try to bounce back next week against the Giants.
Jul 27 - 3:14 PM

Zach Eflin fired a three-hit shutout in Friday’s 4-0 victory over the Pirates.

Elfin needed exactly 100 pitches to go the distance for his second career complete game and his first shutout. So, yes, he fell just one pitch shy of a "Maddux." The 22-year-old was very efficient, throwing 68 pitches for strikes while walking none and striking out six. Elfin had a rough major league debut against the Blue Jays back on June 14, but he owns a 2.08 ERA in seven starts since. He’ll attempt to keep it going next week against the Marlins on the road.
Jul 22 - 9:55 PM

Zach Eflin secured a quality start in Sunday's loss to the Mets, yielding three runs on five hits over six innings.

Eflin struck out two and walked two on the afternoon. He surrendered solitary runs in the second, third and fifth innings, the loudest of which came when Curtis Granderson rocked a solo home run in the third. Sunday's outing was the 22-year-old rookie's seventh career start (all this season). He will carry a 4.14 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 20/8 K/BB ratio into a road date with the Pirates next time out.
Jul 17 - 5:02 PM

Zach Eflin pitched well in an impressive victory over the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday, allowing just two runs on seven hits over six innings.

The right-hander struck out three and walked two on the afternoon. It's the second consecutive win for the 22-year-old rookie hurler. In six first-half starts with the Phillies, Eflin registered a 2-2 record, 4.05 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 18/6 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings.
Jul 10 - 8:14 PM

Zach Eflin picked up his first major league victory in style, allowing one run in a complete game 5-1 win over the Braves.

If not for an Ender Inciarte solo homer in the seven inning, Eflin would have had a "Maddux," as he completed the effort in only 92 pitches. He surrendered six hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out six. Eflin was pummeled for nine runs -- eight earned -- in his major league debut last month, but he's posted a 2.03 ERA and walked just one batter over four outings since. He'll be tested in his final start before the All-Star break on Sunday at Coors Field.
