Zach Eflin allowed one run on three hits over five innings in Saturday's win over the Brewers.
Eflin struck out six and walked one in the victory. The only run to score on his watch came when Travis Shaw hit him up for an RBI single in the first inning. From that point onward, he settled in nicely. He's now allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last three outings. The 24-year-old right-hander will bring a 3.43 ERA and 1.14 WHIP into a road date with the Nationals when he next takes to the mound. Jun 16 - 8:09 PM

Date:

Zach Eflin fanned nine hitters while allowing two runs over six innings in a 4-3 victory over the Brewers on Sunday.

Eflin allowed just three hits, and he walked just one. In his seven starts with the Phillies, the 24-year-old right-hander has been impressive with his control, walking just 10 hitters in just-under 40 innings, and he's struck out 40 in that time frame. Eflin will likely experience some bumps and bruises, but it's tough to argue with the results so far. He takes a 3.63 ERA into his next start; a rematch with the Brewers on Saturday.
Jun 10 - 5:44 PM

Zach Eflin scattered eight hits while pitching 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball Tuesday in a win over the Cubs.

Eflin could have been pulled from the rotation after a third straight subpar start last week, but the Phillies gave him one more chance and got a nice performance out of him tonight. There's still little for which to recommend him, though he's been a decent stopgap with his 2-2 record and 4.50 ERA in six starts.
Jun 5 - 11:39 PM

Zach Eflin allowed five earned runs, seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over four innings in a road loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Eflin threw just 50 of his 78 pitches for strikes, serving up a pair of homers to Max Muncy and Matt Kemp in the third inning. Eflin was 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 12 2/3 innings over his first two outings, but he is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA across the past three appearances. While he has racked up 29 strikeouts over 26 innings to date, that's about the only thing to like about the right-hander from a fantasy perspective.
May 31 - 1:42 AM

Zach Eflin struggled in Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, surrendering six runs (five earned) on nine hits over his 4 2/3 innings.

On the plus side, he did manage to strike out seven on the night while walking only one. He also chipped in offensively, clubbing his first big league home run. The Blue Jays jumped on him for three runs in the first inning, then finished the job with three more to chase him in the fifth, two of those on a mighty blast by Justin Smoak. Eflin now sits at 1-1 on the season with a 3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 24/7 K/BB ratio in 22 innings on the season. He'll take on the Dodgers his next time out in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
May 25 - 10:26 PM

Zach Eflin allowed four runs -- two earned -- over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Cardinals.

Eflin was an out away from qualifying for the win -- despite not being overly sharp -- before the rain rolled in. After a delay, he was replaced by Luis Garcia, denying him a shot at his second win. (It also meant he couldn't suffer his first loss of the year.) The start was easily his worst of three this year, and through Saturday he's got a 1.56 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings. Appearances have been sporadic despite the strong numbers, and it's unclear when the Phils might use the right-hander next.
May 19 - 7:15 PM

Zach Eflin struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Giants on Monday.

Eflin has a 0.71 ERA in two starts since replacing an injured Ben Lively in the Phillies rotation. Of course, last year he had a 1.50 ERA after two starts and still ended up coming in at 6.16 in 11 starts total. It's a good sign that his velocity has taken a step forward this year, but we're still rather skeptical; history has him as a flyball pitcher with a subpar strikeout rate.
May 7 - 11:08 PM

Zach Eflin pitched six innings of one-run ball against the Marlins in his season debut for the Phillies on Tuesday.

Eflin needed just 72 pitches to get through six, but his spot was due up in the top of the seventh and the Phillies opted to hit for him. Eflin was facing a lineup tonight not much more difficult than the ones he's taken on in Triple-A. He's still a poor bet for fantasy value while filling in for Ben Lively.
May 1 - 10:44 PM

Phillies recalled RHP Zach Eflin from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Eflin will start Tuesday in Miami in place of Ben Lively (back). He holds a 4.05 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio over 20 innings for Lehigh Valley this season and could earn additional starts if he pitches well.
Apr 30 - 5:28 PM

Zach Eflin is lined up to start for the Phillies on Tuesday in Miami.

The Phillies haven't officially anointed him as Ben Lively's (back) replacement, but Eflin is no longer listed among the upcoming probable pitchers for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Eflin holds a 4.05 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio over his first 20 innings and four starts for Lehigh Valley this season.
Apr 29 - 11:20 AM

Phillies optioned RHP Zach Eflin to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

This means that Ben Lively will begin the year as the team's No. 5 starter. Eflin, 23, posted a 5.79 ERA and 11/3 K/BB ratio in 14 innings across three starts and two relief appearances this spring.
Mar 26 - 12:06 PM

Zach Eflin surrendered four runs in four innings in his start against the Braves on Saturday.

He served up a two-run bomb to elite prospect Ronald Acuna in the first inning, then the Braves nickeled-and-dimed him for two more runs in the fourth. With their rotation full, the Phillies will soon decide whether to move Eflin to the bullpen or let him continue starting at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Mar 17 - 6:41 PM

Zach Eflin struck out two and allowed just one hit over five scoreless frames in Monday's Grapefruit League start against the Braves.

This one was a pitcher's duel, with Eflin and Newcomb combining to surrender only one single and no walks across 9 2/3 innings. Eflin had struggled in his first two spring appearances. The righty wouldn't appear to have a shot at a rotation spot following the Phillies' signing of Jake Arrieta.
Mar 12 - 8:51 PM

Zach Eflin gave up a pair of solo homers in 2 2/3 innings Thursday against the Yankees.

He also allowed a double and a walk and struck out three batters. Eflin should be a fallback option for a spot in the Phillies rotation. He made 11 starts for the team in both 2016 and 2017, finishing with a 5.54 ERA as a rookie and a 6.16 ERA last year.
Mar 1 - 5:26 PM

Zach Eflin started Saturday's game versus the Orioles and allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings.

He struck out two batters, walked one and allowed two base hits. He started 11 games for the Phillies last year, going 1-5 with a 6.16 ERA in 64 1/3 innings. He will battle for a rotation slot this spring but is likely to start the season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
