Lucas Sims recorded his first big-league victory after allowing two runs over five innings Thursday against the Rockies.
Sims walked three today, matching his total from his first three starts combined. Still, he kept it together at Coors Field, which was pretty impressive. He'll take a 1-3 record and a 5.24 ERA into his next start against the Mariners. Aug 17 - 6:51 PM

Lucas Sims allowed 10 hits and five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

A pair of doubles and a homer were included in the 10 hits allowed, and Sims also walked one in the outing. He's now lost all three of his major league starts since being promoted at the beginning of August, owning a 5.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in that span. It'll be a learning process for the former top prospect, and he'll get a hard lesson Thursday when the Braves visit Coors Field to take on the Rockies.
Aug 12 - 11:26 PM

Lucas Sims allowed four earned runs in six innings Sunday as the Braves fell to the Marlins.

Sims issued two walks and gave up six hits, including a pair of first-inning homers. The 23-year-old right-hander is now 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA through his first two major league starts. He'll get the Cardinals on the road next.
Aug 6 - 4:52 PM

Lucas Sims turned in a quality start in his major league debut, allowing three runs over six innings against the Dodgers.

Sims ended up with the loss, but he walked none and got through six in a relatively economical 92 pitches. He's probably not going to be a shallow mixed league SP right away, but he could help those in deeper formats. He's going to be a 2018 sleeper.
Aug 1 - 11:58 PM

Braves recalled RHP Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims will make his major league debut Tuesday night against the Dodgers. The 23-year-old posted a 3.75 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 115 1/3 innings this season in Triple-A. This is a challenging first matchup, but Sims could have some appeal in deeper fantasy formats down the stretch.
Aug 1 - 3:38 PM

Lucas Sims will be called up to make his major league debut Tuesday against the Dodgers.

He'll take over for Aaron Blair, who was rocked in his first start filling in for Jaime Garcia last week. Sims, a first round-pick in 2012, holds a 3.75 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 115 1/3 innings this season. He's worth a shot in NL-only leagues, although he certainly has a rough first matchup.
Jul 31 - 4:13 PM

The Braves could promote pitching prospect Lucas Sims soon to make his major league debut.

Aaron Blair will start Wednesday in place of the departed Jaime Garcia, but Blair isn't guaranteed anything beyond that outing and might be replaced by Sims soon. A former first-round pick, Sims has made big strides with his control this season, posting a 3.75 ERA and 124/33 K/BB ratio over 110 1/3 innings for Gwinnett.
Jul 24 - 6:23 PM

Braves pitching prospect Lucas Sims allowed two runs in five innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims scattered seven hits over those five innings, and he also struck out seven hitters while walking no one. Command issues have plagued Sims since he was taken with the 21st pick of the 2012 draft, but he's walked just six hitters this year. With two plus pitches and an average change he has the stuff to start, and he might just have the command to do it now, too.
May 4 - 2:12 PM

In his first start of the season, Braves pitching prospect gave up just one hit over five innings on Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims struck out five in those five innings of work, but he also walked three. Control has been an issue since he was the Braves first-round pick in 2012, but he was able to pitch around those walks to have an effective outing on Sunday. With a plus fastball and above-average curveball, Sims has the stuff to miss bats, he just has to be around the plate enough for it to matter. He could be dominant in relief, but Atlanta wants to give him a chance to pitch in a rotation. You can't blame them for trying, anyway.
Apr 10 - 2:04 PM

Braves optioned RHP Lucas Sims to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims registered a 5.14 ERA in one start and two relief appearances this spring in Grapefruit League play. The former first-round pick (21st overall in 2012) struggled in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2016.
Mar 16 - 10:35 AM

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett.

A former first-round pick, Sims held a 4.40 ERA and walked 92 but also struck out 159 across 141 frames between Double- and Triple-A in 2016. He's been a relative disappointment so far, but Sims is still an interesting prospect.

Braves RHP prospect Lucas Sims allowed six hits and one run over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a win for Double-A Mississippi.

He finished with seven strikeouts and only let up two walks. Sims obviously has great stuff—he's punched out 110 hitters in only 86 2/3 innings this year—but he hasn't put it all together yet. The right-hander holds a disappointing 5.61 ERA over 18 outings with an underwhelming 6.23 BB/9. Sims spent nearly two months with Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this year but was sent down after posting a 7.56 ERA in 11 appearances.

Braves RHP prospect Lucas Sims matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts Sunday for Double-A Mississippi.

He held Chattanooga to two hits and one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings. Sims is still looking for his first win of 2016 but that shouldn't take away from what he's done this year. Opponents have hit just .140 against him with 26 strikeouts in 50 at-bats. Only three of the eight runs he's allowed this year have been earned. So far, Sims' Achilles heel has been walks. The 21-year-old has already handed out a league-high 10 free passes in only 14 2/3 innings.

Lucas Sims rebounded from an ugly spring debut to strike out four in two scoreless innings versus the Marlins on Thursday.

Sims gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings his first time out. After finishing 2015 strong, the 2012 first-round pick is a candidate to make his major league debut during the middle of the year. He might not have as much upside as it looked like he did three years back, but he remains a quality pitching prospect.

Braves RHP prospect Lucas Sims notched a career-high 10 strikeouts in Sunday's win for Double-A Mississippi.

Sims let up just three hits and one run over six innings of work. 63 of his 90 pitches went for strikes. He's undefeated over his last four starts, going 3-0 in that span with a 1.99 ERA. Opponents have hit just .179 in 117 at-bats against Sims since his call-up to Double-A. He's posted an excellent 9.98 K/9 across 79 1/3 minor league innings this season.
