Date:'s Mark Bowman reports that Lucas Sims could start in place of Anibal Sanchez (hamstring) on Thursday against the Mets.

Sims was recalled on Sunday to help out the bullpen, but the 23-year-old former first-round pick could get the start after Sanchez went down with the hamstring injury while running sprints in the outfield.
Apr 18 - 5:56 PM

Braves recalled RHP Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims will give the Braves' bullpen some length. He held a 5.62 ERA over 14 appearances -- 10 starts -- with the big club last season.
Apr 15 - 11:15 AM

Lucas Sims was tagged for eight runs -- six earned -- in three innings by the Cardinals on Thursday.

This should officially eliminate him from rotation competition. He had a real shot, especially in light of the Luiz Gohara injury, but he's given up 17 runs -- 15 earned -- and walked 10 in 13 1/3 innings this spring.
Mar 22 - 6:03 PM

Lucas Sims let the Phillies score four runs in three innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League action.

He gave up a home run to the first batter he faced, Carlos Santana. He allowed five hits in total and issued one walk while fanning three batters in the contest. The 2012 first-round draft pick has a poor 7.84 ERA this spring. He reached the majors for the first time last year and went 3-6 with a 5.62 ERA in 57 2/3 innings, mostly as a starter. The 23-year-old put up big strikeout rates in the minors but also struggled with the base-on-balls.
Mar 17 - 6:31 PM

Lucas Sims pitched just an inning out of the pen Thursday and gave up a run against the Astros.

Sims would seem to be out of the rotation mix at this point after entering camp as a long shot. He's given up three homers and five runs over five innings. The Braves will probably put him in the Triple-A rotation rather than keep him as a major league reliever.
Mar 8 - 4:17 PM

Lucas Sims was knocked around for six runs over two innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.

Sims couldn't seem to get much of anything going, walking four and allowing seven hits, including a homer, in his two innings of work. It was an unceremonious end to a tough freshman year for the 23-year-old, who posted a 5.62 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 57 2/3 innings. Things should get better going forward for the former first-round pick.

Lucas Sims yielded two runs over 6 2/3 innings of work in Monday's 9-2 victory over the Mets.

He held them off the scoreboard for the first six frames and was leading 5-0 when he was pulled with two outs in the seventh. However, both of the inherited runners Sims left came around to score. Sims was moved to the bullpen earlier this month, but he rejoined the rotation last week and has put up two straight impressive outings. Assuming he gets one more start, it will come this weekend in Miami.

Lucas Sims held the Nationals to one run in five innings but had to settle for a no-decision on Wednesday.

He gave up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in the ballgame, Trea Turner, but was lights out for the rest of his stint on the mound. The rookie struck out six batters against two walks and three knocks. The game was tied when he left but the Nationals piled on some late runs against the Braves' bullpen. Sims has a 2-5 record with a 5.14 ERA in 12 games (eight starts) in his first taste of the majors. He turned in a 3.75 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett this year.

Lucas Sims has been moved to the bullpen.

That will clear a rotation spot for prospect Luiz Gohara, who is making his MLB debut on Tuesday night against the Rangers. Sims holds a 5.73 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 37 2/3 innings (seven starts) this season with Atlanta.

Lucas Sims was thrashed for seven runs in three innings and was charged with a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.

Things got ugly fast as he gave up a grand slam to catcher Rene Rivera in the second inning. He struggled to throw strikes and the Cubs made him pay for it. The rookie walked four, struck out four and surrendered six knocks, including two home runs. He falls to 2-5 with a 5.73 ERA after his first seven major league starts. He does have potential as evidenced by his 132 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this year.

Lucas Sims fell to 2-4 after allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings against the Phillies on Monday.

Sims limited the Phillies to one run through his first five innings before running out of gas. The rookie right-hander struck out a career-high seven batters and walked just one in the loss. He’s sitting on a 4.41 ERA and 22/9 K/BB ratio in 34 2/3 innings through his first six starts in the majors. The Cubs are up next on his calendar.

Lucas Sims had the best start of his young career Tuesday, spinning six shutout frames in a 4-0 victory over the Mariners.

Sims yielded just two singles and a double on the night, walked two and punched out four batters. The 23-year-old had held his own in the majors before this one, but tonight’s outing was his first quality start since his debut on August 1. The swings and misses Sims got in the minors haven’t translated to this point, as he’s whiffed only 15 in 28 1/3 innings. The good news is he’s walked only eight, as the control improvements he made this year in the minors have carried over. Sims gets the Phillies on the road next.

Lucas Sims recorded his first big-league victory after allowing two runs over five innings Thursday against the Rockies.

Sims walked three today, matching his total from his first three starts combined. Still, he kept it together at Coors Field, which was pretty impressive. He'll take a 1-3 record and a 5.24 ERA into his next start against the Mariners.

Lucas Sims allowed 10 hits and five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

A pair of doubles and a homer were included in the 10 hits allowed, and Sims also walked one in the outing. He's now lost all three of his major league starts since being promoted at the beginning of August, owning a 5.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in that span. It'll be a learning process for the former top prospect, and he'll get a hard lesson Thursday when the Braves visit Coors Field to take on the Rockies.
