Lucas Sims was knocked around for six runs over two innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday.
Sims couldn't seem to get much of anything going, walking four and allowing seven hits, including a homer, in his two innings of work. It was an unceremonious end to a tough freshman year for the 23-year-old, who posted a 5.62 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 57 2/3 innings. Things should get better going forward for the former first-round pick. Sep 30 - 11:23 PM

Lucas Sims yielded two runs over 6 2/3 innings of work in Monday's 9-2 victory over the Mets.

He held them off the scoreboard for the first six frames and was leading 5-0 when he was pulled with two outs in the seventh. However, both of the inherited runners Sims left came around to score. Sims was moved to the bullpen earlier this month, but he rejoined the rotation last week and has put up two straight impressive outings. Assuming he gets one more start, it will come this weekend in Miami.
Sep 25 - 9:52 PM

Lucas Sims held the Nationals to one run in five innings but had to settle for a no-decision on Wednesday.

He gave up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in the ballgame, Trea Turner, but was lights out for the rest of his stint on the mound. The rookie struck out six batters against two walks and three knocks. The game was tied when he left but the Nationals piled on some late runs against the Braves' bullpen. Sims has a 2-5 record with a 5.14 ERA in 12 games (eight starts) in his first taste of the majors. He turned in a 3.75 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett this year.

Lucas Sims has been moved to the bullpen.

That will clear a rotation spot for prospect Luiz Gohara, who is making his MLB debut on Tuesday night against the Rangers. Sims holds a 5.73 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 37 2/3 innings (seven starts) this season with Atlanta.
Sep 5 - 4:18 PM

Lucas Sims was thrashed for seven runs in three innings and was charged with a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.

Things got ugly fast as he gave up a grand slam to catcher Rene Rivera in the second inning. He struggled to throw strikes and the Cubs made him pay for it. The rookie walked four, struck out four and surrendered six knocks, including two home runs. He falls to 2-5 with a 5.73 ERA after his first seven major league starts. He does have potential as evidenced by his 132 strikeouts in 115 1/3 innings at Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this year.
Sep 2 - 6:35 PM

Lucas Sims fell to 2-4 after allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings against the Phillies on Monday.

Sims limited the Phillies to one run through his first five innings before running out of gas. The rookie right-hander struck out a career-high seven batters and walked just one in the loss. He’s sitting on a 4.41 ERA and 22/9 K/BB ratio in 34 2/3 innings through his first six starts in the majors. The Cubs are up next on his calendar.
Aug 28 - 10:31 PM

Lucas Sims had the best start of his young career Tuesday, spinning six shutout frames in a 4-0 victory over the Mariners.

Sims yielded just two singles and a double on the night, walked two and punched out four batters. The 23-year-old had held his own in the majors before this one, but tonight’s outing was his first quality start since his debut on August 1. The swings and misses Sims got in the minors haven’t translated to this point, as he’s whiffed only 15 in 28 1/3 innings. The good news is he’s walked only eight, as the control improvements he made this year in the minors have carried over. Sims gets the Phillies on the road next.
Aug 22 - 11:40 PM

Lucas Sims recorded his first big-league victory after allowing two runs over five innings Thursday against the Rockies.

Sims walked three today, matching his total from his first three starts combined. Still, he kept it together at Coors Field, which was pretty impressive. He'll take a 1-3 record and a 5.24 ERA into his next start against the Mariners.
Aug 17 - 6:51 PM

Lucas Sims allowed 10 hits and five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.

A pair of doubles and a homer were included in the 10 hits allowed, and Sims also walked one in the outing. He's now lost all three of his major league starts since being promoted at the beginning of August, owning a 5.71 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in that span. It'll be a learning process for the former top prospect, and he'll get a hard lesson Thursday when the Braves visit Coors Field to take on the Rockies.
Aug 12 - 11:26 PM

Lucas Sims allowed four earned runs in six innings Sunday as the Braves fell to the Marlins.

Sims issued two walks and gave up six hits, including a pair of first-inning homers. The 23-year-old right-hander is now 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA through his first two major league starts. He'll get the Cardinals on the road next.
Aug 6 - 4:52 PM

Lucas Sims turned in a quality start in his major league debut, allowing three runs over six innings against the Dodgers.

Sims ended up with the loss, but he walked none and got through six in a relatively economical 92 pitches. He's probably not going to be a shallow mixed league SP right away, but he could help those in deeper formats. He's going to be a 2018 sleeper.
Aug 1 - 11:58 PM

Braves recalled RHP Lucas Sims from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims will make his major league debut Tuesday night against the Dodgers. The 23-year-old posted a 3.75 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 115 1/3 innings this season in Triple-A. This is a challenging first matchup, but Sims could have some appeal in deeper fantasy formats down the stretch.
Aug 1 - 3:38 PM

Lucas Sims will be called up to make his major league debut Tuesday against the Dodgers.

He'll take over for Aaron Blair, who was rocked in his first start filling in for Jaime Garcia last week. Sims, a first round-pick in 2012, holds a 3.75 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 115 1/3 innings this season. He's worth a shot in NL-only leagues, although he certainly has a rough first matchup.
Jul 31 - 4:13 PM

The Braves could promote pitching prospect Lucas Sims soon to make his major league debut.

Aaron Blair will start Wednesday in place of the departed Jaime Garcia, but Blair isn't guaranteed anything beyond that outing and might be replaced by Sims soon. A former first-round pick, Sims has made big strides with his control this season, posting a 3.75 ERA and 124/33 K/BB ratio over 110 1/3 innings for Gwinnett.
Jul 24 - 6:23 PM

Braves pitching prospect Lucas Sims allowed two runs in five innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sims scattered seven hits over those five innings, and he also struck out seven hitters while walking no one. Command issues have plagued Sims since he was taken with the 21st pick of the 2012 draft, but he's walked just six hitters this year. With two plus pitches and an average change he has the stuff to start, and he might just have the command to do it now, too.
