Astros recalled INF Jacob Elmore from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He'll take the roster spot of Jose Altuve, who was placed on the bereavement list following the death of his grandmother. Elmore, 25, was batting .300/.381/.457 with two home runs, 15 RBI, eight stolen bases, and an .838 OPS in 36 games at Triple-A this season. Ronny Cedeno and Marwin Gonzalez figure to see most of the playing time in the middle infield until Altuve is ready to rejoin the team.

Elmore was bothered by an oblique injury and hit just .226/.273/.290 this spring to seal his demotion. He should be up with the club at some point this season.

Jacob Elmore is nursing a strained left oblique.

The Astros are calling him day-to-day, but with an oblique there's always a chance it will be a while. Elmore is competing for a bench role this spring and could wind up with a decent amount of playing time at shortstop.
