Cesar Hernandez finished Tuesday's road win against the Dodgers with a single, a double, three walks and two runs scored across five plate appearances.
Hernandez was also able to roll up his 10th stolen base of the season, as he continues to set the table nicely for the Fightin' Phils. The Venezuelan switch hitter is slashing .269/.311/.448 with 38 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a respectable .812 OPS. May 30 - 4:14 AM

Cesar Hernandez hit a three-run homer Monday in the loss to the Dodgers.

Hernandez is only hitting about .220 over the last month, but he's still hitting for more power than usual and stealing bases. The homer tonight was his seventh in 51 games. He hit one in 127 games in 2015, six in 155 games in 2016 and nine in 128 games last year.
May 28 - 11:54 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

Hernandez has three multi-hit performances in his last five games, bringing his line to .271/.384/.426 through 41 games. He's among the leaders in the National League with his eight steals, and Hernandez is also near the top with his 30 runs scored. Scott Kingery's presence has not adversely affected the 27-year-old's status as the team's second baseman or leadoff hitter, as some feared.
May 17 - 11:56 PM

Cesar Hernandez tripled and homered, scoring two runs, as the Phillies topped the Orioles on Wednesday.

Hernandez was retired in his first two at-bats, but he belted a leadoff homer in the top of the sixth inning and then tripled and scored on a Rhys Hoskins double in the top of the eighth. The dynamic second baseman is batting .267/.383/.427 with five home runs and seven stolen bases in 40 games this year.
May 16 - 3:07 PM

Cesar Hernandez had a two-run homer, a walk and a steal Monday against the Giants.

Hernandez has been a more valuable player to the Phillies than to fantasy teams the last couple of years, but it looks like he's taking a step forward in fantasy this year; he already has four homers and six steals, putting him on pace to blow past his career highs of nine homers and 19 steals. With better players behind him, he could be a threat to score 100 runs, too.
May 7 - 11:02 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored in a win over the Marlins on Wednesday.

He led off the game with a solo homer and that run would prove to be the only one the Phillies really needed in the blowout win. Hernandez has done an excellent job of setting the table for his club this year, slashing .284/.406/.413 with three homers, 11 RBI and 21 runs scored. He has stolen five bases in seven tries.
May 2 - 11:06 PM

Cesar Hernandez set the table for the Phillies by going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

He doubled and scored in the first inning, then singled and scored in the third inning. He was also caught stealing in the ballgame. His sterling performance is one of the primary reasons why the Phillies have gotten off to a surprising 15-8 start this year. He has a .313/.431/.434 slash line with two homers, 10 RBI, 18 runs and five steals out of the leadoff slot. He has nearly as many walks (18) as strikeouts (22) in 102 plate appearances.
Apr 26 - 1:12 AM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Pirates.

Hernandez dealt a big blow to the Bucs when, with the bases loaded and two out and with a 3-2 count he knocked a single that plated all three baserunners. Hernandez also stole his fifth base of the season in the win. There was some concern the 27-year-old might be the odd man out after Scott Kingery went north with the team, but Hernandez has asserted his place in and atop the lineup, hitting .286/.430/.413 through 18 games.
Apr 19 - 10:47 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored as the Phillies topped the Braves 5-1 in 10 innings Tuesday.

The second hit was a bunt single that was key in the Phillies' four-run 10th inning. Hernandez is batting .291 with 15 walks and 13 runs scored in 16 games. Scott Kingery's presence doesn't seem to be bothering him at all.
Apr 17 - 11:34 PM

Cesar Hernandez is not in Monday's lineup versus the Braves.

It's a routine day off. He'll sit with Scott Kingery making the start at second base. The exciting rookie will also replace Hernandez in the leadoff spot.
Apr 16 - 3:08 PM

Cesar Hernandez reached four times Thursday, going 1-for-2 with three walks and two steals.

Even though Scott Kingery's natural position is second base, Hernandez has started all six games there thus far. He'll get the occasional day off, but nothing more than that; Kingery is going to have to earn his playing time elsewhere.
Apr 5 - 9:28 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a home run in Thursday's Opening Day loss to the Braves.

Hernandez took Braves starter Julio Teheran deep for a solo shot in the sixth inning. Suddenly having to look over his shoulder at the charging Scott Kingery, Hernandez may be galvanized by the youngster -- not that he needed a push, after hitting .294/.373/.421 with nine homers, 15 steals and 85 runs scored last year. With Kingery set to play all over the diamond, Hernandez should continue to see plenty of at-bats and, hitting atop the Phillies lineup, should score plenty of runs once again this year.
Mar 30 - 1:20 AM

Cesar Hernandez went 0-for-5 on Monday, dropping his spring average to .209.

Hernandez shouldn't be feeling the heat from Scott Kingery; as talented as Kingery is, Hernandez has been plenty strong enough the last two years to secure his job. It's been a bad spring -- he's struck out 10 times and he's sporting a .244 OBP -- but he's locked in as the Phillies' leadoff hitter.
Mar 19 - 5:08 PM

Phillies and 2B Cesar Hernandez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.1 million contract.

It's a well-earned raise for Hernandez, who has hit .294/.372/.406 over the last two seasons. He's under team control through 2020.
Jan 12 - 2:18 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 on Sunday in a victory over the Braves on Sunday.

All three hits were singles for Hernandez. In a season where the Phillies have struggled for the entirety of the year, Hernandez has been a rare constant, and how has a .296/.370/.422 line for the 2017 campaign. He should be hitting at or near the top of the Philadelphia lineup again in 2018.
