Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that Cesar Hernandez was "a hot name" in trade talks at the general managers meetings this week.
It looks like the Phillies might want to sell high on Hernandez after he batted .298/.413/.411 in the second half this past season. Hernandez is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason, so Philly would also be shipping him out before he started getting expensive. Salisbury notes that the Phillies could pursue a trade for Howie Kendrick to take over for Hernandez at second base as a stop-gap before handing the job off to one of their younger players. Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored in Thursday's marathon loss to the Mets.

Hernandez chipped in a single and a triple in the 11-inning contest, and it was the second time this year that he's reached base five times in a game. The 26-year-old has a sneaky nine-game hitting streak going, during which he's 13-for-37 (.351) with a pair of triples and eight runs scored. The good stretch has his overall line up to .293/.367/.398 in 146 games.
Sep 23 - 12:45 AM

Cesar Hernandez went 0-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored against the Pirates on Monday.

Hernandez was also thrown out on a stolen base attempt. While the 26-year-old has swiped 17 bases this season, he has also been caught 11 times. Only Starling Marte and Jonathan Villar have been thrown out more this season. Of course, Marte (47 steals) and Villar (53 steals) have had a lot more success on the basepaths.
Sep 12 - 11:15 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-4 and swiped his 17th base of the season as the Phillies were shut out by the Nationals on Saturday in Washington D.C.

As a club, the Phillies totaled just five hits on the day, with Hernandez the only one contributing multiple knocks. He has done a nice job for the Phillies this season, slashing .288/.356/.394 with six homers, 36 RBI and 17 swipes.
Sep 10 - 11:23 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a walk and swiped a base on Wednesday versus the Marlins.

Both hits were singles and he also got caught stealing. The 26-year-old second baseman has gotten everyday playing time all year long for the rebuilding Phillies. He has provided solid value with his .289 batting average, .354 on-base percentage and 16 stolen bases. He doesn't have much pop however, having notched only six home runs and 36 RBI in 460 at-bats.
Sep 7 - 10:38 PM

Cesar Hernandez delivered a two-run double and scored a run Friday against the Mets.

Hernandez went 1-for-5 on the night. The 26-year-old had a lowly .248 batting average back on June 20, but he’s hitting .348 over his last 53 games and has claimed the leadoff spot in the Phillies’ lineup. He can be erratic on the bases at times, but he’s capable of helping mixed fantasy leagues right now.
Aug 26 - 10:26 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to help the Phillies double up the Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday.

Given that Hernandez has nine triples this season, it's actually worth saying that he finished just a triple shy of the cycle in the game. The homer was his fourth of the year, giving him 30 RBI and 49 runs scored. The 26-year-old has fairly quietly put up a nice season at the dish, batting .298/.358/.400 after Saturday's win.
Aug 20 - 11:25 PM

Cesar Hernandez (foot) has returned to the Phillies starting lineup on Saturday.

Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot earlier in the week and was forced to sit out a pair of games. He's back in the leadoff spot in the Phillies lineup for Saturday's showdown against Luke Weaver and the Cardinals.
Aug 20 - 3:54 PM

An X-ray on Cesar Hernandez's right foot came back clean.

Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot earlier this week and will sit out a second straight game Friday. He's considered day-to-day. Emmanuel Burriss is filling in at second base.
Aug 19 - 4:38 PM

Cesar Hernandez missed Thursday's win over the Dodgers with a right foot injury.

Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot earlier this week and is still feeling the effects. He was in the Phillies' original starting lineup for Thursday night but was scratched just before first pitch. Taylor Featherston filled in and went 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Hernandez is day-to-day.
Aug 18 - 10:56 PM

Cesar Hernandez was a late scratch Thursday against the Dodgers.

The reason for his absence is unknown. Taylor Featherston will sub in for Hernandez at second base and bat eighth against Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling. The Phillies should have an update on Hernandez's status after the game.
Aug 18 - 7:16 PM

Cesar Hernandez singled and swatted a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.

He also drew a walk, reaching base in three of his four trips to the plate. Hernandez has rebounded from a slow start and now sports a nice .292/.352/.387 batting line on the season. Cameron Rupp and Ryan Howard also homered for the Phillies.
Aug 16 - 11:27 PM

Cesar Hernandez had a nice night at the plate in Friday's loss to the Braves, reaching base four times and scoring the Phillies' lone run.

Hernandez went 1-for-2 and drew three walks, serving as a terrific catalyst atop the Phillies lineup. The only issue was that the hitters behind him failed to drive him in. Hernandez is having a nice season offensively, slashing .289/.341/.375 with two homers, 26 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Jul 29 - 11:02 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 4-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored versus the Twins on Thursday.

Hernandez's OBP was down to .293, but this will help a whole lot. What's really disappointing from a fantasy perspective is that he's just 3-for-8 stealing bases. He never figured to contribute much in the other categories, but he did seem like a solid bet for 20 steals going into the season.
Jun 23 - 4:50 PM

Cesar Hernandez is not in the Phillies' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Tigers.

Hernandez was dropped from the second spot to the seventh spot in the Philadelphia batting order on Tuesday night and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. He's slashing just .248/.301/.301 in 43 games this season. Andres Blanco will start at second base and hit seventh Wednesday versus Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez.
