Cesar Hernandez went 4-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored versus the Twins on Thursday.
Hernandez's OBP was down to .293, but this will help a whole lot. What's really disappointing from a fantasy perspective is that he's just 3-for-8 stealing bases. He never figured to contribute much in the other categories, but he did seem like a solid bet for 20 steals going into the season. Jun 23 - 4:50 PM

Cesar Hernandez is not in the Phillies' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Tigers.

Hernandez was dropped from the second spot to the seventh spot in the Philadelphia batting order on Tuesday night and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. He's slashing just .248/.301/.301 in 43 games this season. Andres Blanco will start at second base and hit seventh Wednesday versus Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez.
May 25 - 10:06 AM

Cesar Hernandez has been dropped to seventh in the order for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

Hernandez has mostly batted second recently, but he owns an underwhelming .252/.301/.305 batting line through 42 games. Freddy Galvis will get a chance in the No. 2 spot versus Justin Verlander.
May 24 - 3:31 PM

Cesar Hernandez is batting ninth for the Phillies on Friday.

Hernandez has been bounced around to different spots in the lineup by manager Pete Mackanin, but this is the first time he's hit at the bottom of the order. He's hitting a disappointing .240/.269/.300 in the early going.

Cesar Hernandez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.

He'll take a seat against right-hander Logan Verrett. Andres Blanco will start at second base and bat third. Freddy Galvis is batting cleanup Tuesday while Odubel Herrera is in the No. 2 spot.

Cesar Hernandez is not in the Phillies' lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

It's just a day of rest. Emmanuel Burriss will handle second base and also lead off for the Phils.
Apr 15 - 2:40 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 0-for-4 and was caught stealing for a third time Thursday against the Padres.

Hernandez isn't going to offer much to fantasy leaguers besides steals, so it could be a bad sign that he's already been thrown out three times in four attempts. He might need to cut back a bit.
Apr 14 - 3:55 PM

Cesar Hernandez is not in the Phillies' starting lineup Thursday afternoon in Cincinnati.

Hernandez went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts out of the leadoff spot on Wednesday. Andres Blanco is at second base on Thursday and Freddy Galvis is leading off. Philly is trying to avoid a three-game season-opening series sweep at Great American Ball Park.
Apr 7 - 9:40 AM

Cesar Hernandez is at leadoff for the Phillies in Monday's season opener against the Reds.

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said last week that he wanted to try Hernandez as the club's regular leadoff man, and it could be a nice spot for the speedy infielder (at least for fantasy purposes). The full lineup for the Phillies, who are taking on Reds right-hander Raisel Iglesias: Cesar Hernandez 2B, Odubel Herrera CF, Maikel Franco 3B, Ryan Howard 1B, Carlos Ruiz C, Cedric Hunter LF, Peter Bourjos RF, Freddy Galvis SS, Jeremy Hellickson SP.
Apr 4 - 11:31 AM

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said Thursday of Cesar Hernandez that "it looks like he might be our leadoff guy."

It's not huge news since Hernandez was always going to bat either first or second (with Odubel Herrera hitting in the other spot). But, getting a few extra plate appearances certainly doesn't hurt his fantasy prospects, especially for a guy who will be looked to for stolen bases. Hernandez could easily steal 30+ bags this season, which makes him a great late-round middle infield target.
Apr 1 - 11:32 AM

Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with his first spring homer and third double Sunday to propel the Phillies past the Astros 5-4.

Hernandez didn't need a big spring to secure a starting job, but he is batting .390/.468/.585 anyway. He's also 4-for-4 stealing bases. It's in that category that Hernandez figures to make his fantasy impact this year. The guess here is that he won't do enough elsewhere to be an asset in shallow mixed leagues.
Mar 20 - 5:11 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in the Phillies' 9-2 rout of a Braves split-squad Friday.

Hernandez is 8-for-23 with three stolen bases this spring. He should be a pretty good source of steals as the Phillies' starting second baseman, though we don't expect him to do much in the other categories.
Mar 11 - 4:44 PM

Phillies activated INF Cesar Hernandez from the 60-day disabled list.

He's now back on the 40-man roster. Hernandez's season ended early following surgery on his left thumb to repair ligament damage, but he should enter spring training healthy.

Cesar Hernandez needs surgery on his left thumb to repair ligament damage.

He had already been ruled out for the season due to a dislocated thumb, but there's evidently a ligament issue, as well. It's a bummer of a way to end a solid season for Hernandez, but he'll be fine by the time spring training rolls around.

Phillies placed INF Cesar Hernandez on the 60-day disabled list with a dislocated left thumb.

Hernandez collided with Anthony Rizzo of the Cubs on Sunday afternoon while trying to field a ball and is now done for the season. The 25-year-old infielder will finish up with a .272/.339/.348 batting line and 19 stolen bases in 127 games. He doesn't hit well enough to be assured of a starting job heading into 2016.
