Austin Meadows (foot) is starting in right field and batting second Wednesday versus the Brewers.
Meadows was held out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Tuesday night due to a sore right foot, though he did appear as a pinch-hitter. The 23-year-old rookie boasts a .323/.347/.591 batting line with five home runs, 11 RBI, three stolen bases, and 12 runs scored through his first 27 major league games. Gregory Polanco and Corey Dickerson are both on the Pirates' bench Wednesday with the Brewers throwing left-hander Brent Suter. Jun 20 - 3:07 PM

Date:

Austin Meadows is dealing with a sore right foot.

Meadows fouled a ball off that foot on Sunday and has been held out of the Pirates' starting lineup in two consecutive games. Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte, and Gregory Polanco make up the Pirates' starting outfield on Tuesday night against the Brewers. Meadows could return to action on Wednesday.
Jun 19 - 3:56 PM

Austin Meadows is not in the Pirates' lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.

Meadows has now been held out the lineup in back-to-back games. The 23-year-old has cooled down a little bit since his hot start. Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte, and Gregory Polanco will start across the outfield Tuesday.

Austin Meadows went 1-for-4 and got the only hit of the game for the Pirates against Jon Lester and the Cubs on Saturday.

His third-inning triple was the only hit of the day for his team as Jon Lester and two relievers combined for a one-hit shutout. Meadows has hit the ground running since being promoted to the majors in mid-May. He has a monstrous .368/.397/.691 triple slash with five homers and eight RBI in 73 plate appearances in 20 games.
Jun 9 - 5:36 PM

Austin Meadows went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.

He hit a dramatic home run off closer Bud Norris to tie the game in the ninth inning. Alas the Pirates fell victim to a walk-off homer in the bottom of the frame. Meadows also worked a walk in the contest and has started his career off in fine fashion. He has a .404/.431/.830 slash line with five homers and eight RBI through his first 14 major league games. He was a first round pick in 2013 and quickly climbed to near the top of prospect lists before stumbling through injuries the last couple years. He's a great pickup in fantasy leagues where still available, although his playing time is not guaranteed after he cools off.
Jun 2 - 5:42 PM

Austin Meadows is not in the Pirates' lineup Friday.

Meadows has sat out two straight as the Pirates try to balance four "starting" outfielders. The rookie is hitting .409/.426/.795 with four homers over his first 13 games with the big club. Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco will cover the outfield for the Bucs.
Jun 1 - 4:23 PM

Austin Meadows is not in the Pirates' lineup Thursday against the Cardinals.

It's just a routine day off for the rookie. Meadows was called up from Triple-A to replace an injured Starling Marte earlier this month but Marte has since returned from the DL, which could make lineup decisions more difficult for manager Clint Hurdle. Meadows has been tremendous since his promotion, hitting a ridiculous .419 with four homers and three steals in 12 games. We imagine he'll remain in the big leagues as long as he keeps hitting.
May 31 - 5:38 PM

Austin Meadows went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

Jon Lester hadn't allowed a home run to a left-handed batter all season before Meadows took him deep in the fifth inning. He also doubled off the veteran southpaw and added a single as well. Meadows forced the Pirates into keeping him on the roster with a hot start and he should continue stealing starts from Gregory Polanco and probably Corey Dickerson as long as he keeps hitting.
May 29 - 10:14 PM

Austin Meadows will start in right field and bat second Monday against the Cubs.

Meadows gave Corey Dickerson a breather on Sunday and now he'll start in place of Gregory Polanco in right. The rookie is batting .455 (15-for-33) with three homers, two doubles, one triple, six RBI, three steals, and seven runs scored through his first nine games in the big leagues. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle is trying to get him at-bats even after Starling Marte's return, so he's worth keeping around in mixed leagues as long as he continues to hit.
May 28 - 11:39 AM

Austin Meadows went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.

Meadows was kept around following Starling Marte's activation Saturday -- the team sent out Jose Osuna instead -- and he got the start in left field Sunday, giving Corey Dickerson a rest. He continued to make the most of his playing time, picking up a couple of singles and stealing his third base in nine games. The 23-year-old is hitting .455/.441/.848 with three homers and those three steals in 33 at-bats, and while he may be something a little less than an everyday player with the Bucs boasting four worthy outfielders, Meadows should be in fantasy lineups until he's sent down or something changes.
May 27 - 4:58 PM

Austin Meadows went 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and two runs scored Friday against the Cardinals.

Meadows is now batting .448 (13-for-29) through his first seven games in the majors. He has three straight multi-hit games. Chances are he’ll head back to Triple-A with Starling Marte (oblique) poised to come off the disabled list, but he’s trying to make the decision a tough one. Either way, it has been an impressive start.
May 25 - 10:04 PM

Austin Meadows went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Thursday against the Reds.

Meadows seems to like the majors; he has three homers in six NL games after hitting one in 32 games in Triple-A this year and four in 72 games in Triple-A last year. Heh has the tools to continue hitting for power, though not quite at this rate. Still, as successful as he's been, it's hard to see how he's going to fit once Starling Marte returns from the disabled list.
May 24 - 3:36 PM

Austin Meadows homered in his second straight game Tuesday, hitting a solo shot in a loss to the Reds.

Meadows took reliever Amir Garrett deep in the seventh inning Tuesday after he homered off of Jordan Lyles for his first major league dinger Sunday. He's 6-for-15 at the dish over his first four big league games and has also added a stolen base. Meadows could be sent back down when Starling Marte (oblique) returns from the disabled list, but he'll play regularly at least for the next week or so.
May 22 - 11:41 PM

Austin Meadows went 3-for-4 with a homer in a loss to the Padres on Sunday.

The homer is the first of Meadows' big-league career, and it came off of Jordan Lyles with a runner on in the sixth inning. Since being called up on Friday, the 23-year-old outfielder has been impressive with a .455 average and .722 slugging percentage, albeit in only three games.
May 20 - 5:18 PM

Austin Meadows went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in his major league debut against the Padres on Friday.

Meadows flied out to deep center field in his first at-bat, then lined a single into right-center off of Tyson Ross in the fourth inning. He then immediately proceeded to steal second base. The dynamic outfielder will have a chance to play everyday while Starling Marte is sidelined and is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues if he keeps running like this.
