Pirates prospect Austin Meadows had his five-game hitting streak snapped Monday in a win for High-A Bradenton.
Meadows is hitting just under .300 with seven RBI in 22 appearances. The 20-year-old went to a chiropractor during the offseason to get his hips realigned and the procedure seems to have paid off. MLB.com's 45th-ranked prospect is thriving as a leadoff man and seems to have found some untapped potential as a base stealer. Though not an overwhelming threat, he's already tied a career-high with three stolen bases. May 6 - 4:58 PM

Pirates prospect Austin Meadows homered as part of a 3-for-4 day Sunday against Advanced-A St. Lucie.

He also stole his second base of the year. A lingering hamstring injury cost Meadows most of last season, but he hasn't shown any ill effects this year, hitting .375 in his first four games. Meadows isn't close to joining the big club, but the 19-year-old continues to be an exciting outfield prospect for Pittsburgh.

Pirates outfield prospect Austin Meadows went 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and a stolen base for Low-A West Virginia on Friday.

Meadows also struck out twice, and is hitting .309/.377/.460 with 11 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He has hit well since coming back from his hamstring injury, and is someone who may see time in the Arizona Fall League to pick up extra at bats in order to offset his shortened season. He should open 2015 with High-A Bradenton of the Florida State League, and has the potential to hit .300 with 15 home runs.

Pirates outfield prospect Austin Meadows went 2-for-3 with a home run and a hit-by-pitch for Low-A West Virginia on Wednesday.

Meadows missed three months earlier this season with a hamstring injury, but he's hitting .333/.372/.457 through 20 games in the South Atlantic League. If he continues to rake down the stretch, it is plausible that he could start 2015 with High-A Bradenton. Meadows is unlikely to reach the major leagues until 2017, but he carries the upside of a .300 hitter with 15-homer power.

Pirates prospect OF Austin Meadows went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI on Tuesday for Low-A West Virginia.

The home run was Meadows’ first of the season and first at a full-season level. The 19-year-old has swung a hot bat at West Virginia after missing the first half of the season with a hamstring injury, as he’s batting .321/.354/.410 with five extra-base hits in 19 games. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 draft, Meadows batted .316/.424/.554 with seven home runs, 11 doubles, five triples and 22 RBI last season in 48 games between the rookie and short season levels.

Pirates outfield prospect Austin Meadows went 2-for-5 for Low-A West Virginia on Wednesday.

Meadows missed nearly three full months of the season with a hamstring injury, and has gone 6-for-18 with six singles in four games in the Low-A South Atlantic League after rehab stints in rookie ball. He has the potential to hit .300 with 15 home runs at the major league level but is unlikely to reach Pittsburgh until late-2017 at the earliest.

Pirates have agreed to terms with first-round pick OF Austin Meadows.

The agreement has been passed along by Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, who says Meadows will receive near the $3.0296 million slot value for the No. 9 pick. Meadows is a high-risk, high-reward high school outfielder that will take a while to develop but could wind up being a star.

Pirates selected high school outfielder Austin Meadows with the ninth pick in the draft.

Meadows was projected to go as high as fifth and most didn't see him lasting past the Red Sox with the seventh pick. He probably won't last in center, and that's especially a given with Andrew McCutchen now ahead of him. But he should prove to be quite an asset defensively in right field, and he possesses big-time power potential. He's a high risk kind of guy, but he's also one with the ability to end up as the best player from this year's draft.
