Sam Dyson took a blown save and a loss after allowing two runs in the ninth inning against the Padres on Saturday.
He gave up two singles followed by an Austin Hedges double that turned a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 defeat. He did managed to strike out two batters but that is small consolation for his fantasy owners and Giants fans. Dyson has been filling in at closer with Mark Melancon on the disabled list. He has a 6.09 ERA with 14 saves while splitting the season between the Rangers and Giants this year. He has only 34 strikeouts and a whopping 30 walks in 54 2/3 innings. Sep 30 - 7:42 PM

Sam Dyson surrendered three earned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday as the Giants fell to the Diamondbacks.

San Francisco held a 3-1 lead when Dyson entered the game, but he gave up a leadoff homer to J.D. Martinez, singles to Jake Lamb and A.J. Pollock, an RBI fielder's choice to John Ryan Murphy, and then he ended the brutal outing with a walkoff walk to David Peralta. The 29-year-old right-hander will likely be relegated to a setup role in 2018 if Mark Melancon (forearm) can get himself back to full health.

Sam Dyson allowed just one hit in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Dodgers while nailing down his 14th save.

The 2017 season started off like a bad dream for Dyson, as he couldn't seem to get an out or convert a save in Texas. He moved on to San Francisco and re-gained his form. He'll likely be a closer candidate in 2018, and if he pitches like he did in the NL he'll be a fantasy stud again.
Sep 24 - 2:29 AM

Sam Dyson tossed a scoreless ninth inning against the Dodgers early Tuesday morning for his 13th save with the Giants.

Dyson threw just eight out of 17 pitches for strikes and worked around a two-out walk. He’s 13-for-14 in save chances with the Giants while posting a 3.31 ERA and 24/15 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 innings. With Mark Melancon (elbow) officially headed for surgery, Dyson will hold down the closer role for the remainder of the season.
Sep 12 - 8:59 AM

After entering a tie game in the ninth, Sam Dyson gave up five runs in one-third of an inning to take a loss to the Cardinals on Friday.

The Giants were up by three after six, but Hunter Strickland gave up two runs in the seventh and Mark Melancon allowed one in the eighth to take a blown save. That Melancon had the off night too probably helps Dyson, even if Melancon's wasn't nearly as brutal. Dyson is still 11-for-12 closing games for the Giants, and he came into this one having allowed three runs in 21 innings over the previous two months. He's probably going to get the Giants' next save chance.
Sep 2 - 1:49 AM

Sam Dyson notched his 11th save with a scoreless ninth inning Monday against the Brewers.

Dyson issued a one-out walk to Domingo Santana, but he induced a double play grounder from Stephen Vogt to end the ballgame. Meanwhile, Mark Melancon threw a scoreless eighth inning and struck out two batters along the way. Dyson has been great in the closer role and the Giants are being careful with Melancon, so they might not change things down the stretch.
Aug 22 - 1:40 AM

Sam Dyson recorded his 10th save of the season via a scoreless ninth inning in Thursday's win over the Phillies.

With the Giants holding a 5-4 advantage entering the ninth, Dyson recorded the first two outs without issue before losing a touch of command. He walked Andres Blanco and fell behind Cesar Hernandez before coming back to strike him out looking to end the contest. Dyson has been money with the Giants, especially of late -- he has not allowed a hit in any of his last four appearances. Since the Rangers traded him over to the National League, the reliever owns a 2.05 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 21/12 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 frames. He is 10-for-11 in save chances since putting on the San Francisco uniform.
Aug 18 - 1:15 AM

Sam Dyson earned his ninth save of the year on Sunday afternoon against the Nationals.

Dyson retired all three batters he faced in an easy 10-pitch ninth inning to protect the Giants' two-run lead. He has looked like a new man since arriving in San Francisco, though Mark Melancon is now off the disabled list and will eventually reclaim closer duties.
Aug 13 - 4:30 PM

Sam Dyson fired off a clean ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the season in Wednesday's win over the Cubs.

The Giants held a 3-1 lead entering the ninth inning and Dyson came on to keep the score right there. He needed just 10 pitches (six strikes) to record the save. After struggling to a terrifying 10.80 ERA in 17 appearances with the Rangers earlier in the season, Dyson has found new life with the Giants. Since joining the boys from the bay, the right-handed reliever is the owner of a 2.22 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 19/11 K/BB ratio in 23 appearances covering 24 1/3 innings. He is 8-for-9 in save opportunities since coming over in trade.
Aug 9 - 7:30 PM

Sam Dyson allowed a walk while recording a strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Cubs for his seventh save.

Dyson was brutal to start the season in Texas, but that all appears to be a distant memory. He has converted seven of his eight save chances since coming over from the Rangers, and he has allowed just two earned runs over his past 18 2/3 innings across the past 16 appearances.
Aug 9 - 4:27 AM

Sam Dyson recorded his sixth save since joining the Giants via a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.

The Giants held a slim 2-1 lead and Dyson kept it right there for the save after entering action in the ninth. He fanned one in his scoreless inning of work. Since coming over to the Giants in trade, the closer has pitched much more sharply than he did with the Rangers earlier this season. He owns a 2.33 ERA and 16/8 K/BB ratio (19 1/3 innings) and is a perfect 6-for-6 in save chances since jumping over to the National League.
Jul 26 - 7:02 PM

Sam Dyson allowed just one walk over two scoreless and hitless innings of relief on Tuesday against Cleveland.

Dyson's struggles from earlier in the season with the Rangers seem like a distant memory, as he has been sharp since moving over to the Giants. He threw 11 of his 17 pitches for strikes and picked up his first National League relief win while lowering his ERA to 2.93.
Jul 19 - 4:21 AM

Sam Dyson barely held on for his fourth save Friday against the Padres.

Working with a two-run cushion, Dyson gave up three hits and a run before retiring Jabari Blash to end the game. It was the first run he's given up in seven appearances, so he'll continue to close in Mark Melancon's place.
Jul 15 - 1:45 AM

Sam Dyson turned in a clean ninth inning to notch a save versus the Tigers on Wednesday.

He induced two groundouts and a line-out and got through the inning on seven pitches. Dyson is serving as the Giants' fill-in closer while Mark Melancon is on the shelf. He got run out of town by the Rangers earlier this season but has fared well with the Giants so far. He has allowed four earned runs in 10 innings with his new club.
Jul 5 - 11:23 PM

Sam Dyson pitched a clean ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's win over the Pirates.

The Giants held a 5-3 lead entering the bottom of the ninth. Dyson made sure that score did not budge, striking out one in an uneventful inning of work. He threw 13 pitches in the outing, nine of which went for strikes. Since joining the Giants in a trade from the Rangers on June 6, Dyson has surrendered five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 10 appearances (9 1/3 innings). He is 2-for-2 in save chances with his new team and should continue to see closing opportunities so long as Mark Melancon (elbow) is out injured. Hunter Strickland figures to draw chances should Dyson struggle to any serious degree.
