Sam Dyson notched his 19th save of the season Sunday in the Rangers' defeat of the Cubs.

Dyson struck out all three batters he faced in a dominant bottom of the ninth inning at Wrigley Field. Those three batters: Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Willson Contreras. Dyson looks to be back on track after a brutal appearance at the end of June.
Jul 17 - 4:47 PM

Sam Dyson turned a four run lead into a two run loss by allowing a pair of home runs in the ninth inning to the Yankees.

Matt Bush started the ninth inning and allowed the first two batters to reach. On came Dyson, who promptly allowed both inherited runners to score on a single by Brett Gardner. Brian McCann followed with a three-run home run to tie the game. After a walk to Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius hit a walkoff home run. Dyson now has a 2.79 ERA. He has been excellent this year but his low strikeout rate means he probably will not be a reliable closer for a long time.
Jun 29 - 11:14 PM

Sam Dyson converted his 16th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win over the Yankees.

The Rangers plated four runs in the top of the ninth inning after a rain delay of three hours and 35 minutes, resulting in Dyson netting a save around 2:45 am. He's nailed down 16-of-17 save chances this season.
Jun 28 - 2:54 AM

Sam Dyson earned his 11th save of the season Sunday in the Rangers' 5-4 defeat of the Cardinals.

Dyson gave up a leadoff single to Greg Garcia to open the bottom of the ninth inning and then issued a two-out walk to Matt Carpenter, but Aledmys Diaz hit into an easy groundout to end it and give the visiting Rangers a three-game sweep. Dyson now has a 2.04 ERA on the season and he hasn't blown a save opportunity since officially taking over as the Rangers' closer in mid-May.
Jun 19 - 5:38 PM

Sam Dyson gave up a hit but slammed the door on the Mariners in the 11th inning to record his 9th save of the season.

Dyson has cemented himself firmly into the Rangers' closer role formerly held by Shawn Tolleson. He generates a good blend of strikeouts and ground balls. His ERA sits at a marvelous 2.05 on the season and 2.99 for his career. He has blown only one save all year and that occurred before he became the closer.
Jun 12 - 2:08 AM

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said that Sam Dyson will not be available to pitch in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Dyson has appeared in three straight games and Banister wants to give him a little breather. The manager said that his 28-year-old right-hander might also be unavailable for Thursday. This season, Dyson has saved eight games and holds a 2.12 ERA and 27/7 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 innings.
Jun 8 - 8:29 PM

Sam Dyson retired the only two batters he faced to record his sixth save of the season in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

The Rangers entered the ninth inning with a five-run lead, but Matt Bush gave up a run and left two runners on before Dyson entered to clean things up. Dyson has converted all four of his save chances since taking over the ninth inning and has allowed just three baserunners and no walk over seven appearances during that stretch.
May 31 - 9:41 PM

Sam Dyson struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday, closing out the Angels to earn his fifth save.

Dyson needed just 10 pitches to finish off the bottom portion of the Angels order. Despite not being a Proven Closer, he's taken to the closer role with little issue thus far, collecting three saves in three chances since Shawn Tolleson was removed from ninth-inning duties last week. Dyson owns a 2.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio in 22 innings and shouldn't be a free agent in many fantasy leagues at this point.
May 24 - 11:57 PM

Sam Dyson worked around some trouble Friday against the Astros for his third save of the season.

It was his first save chance since Shawn Tolleson was officially pulled from the closer role earlier this week. Dyson allowed a leadoff double to Jose Altuve, who was eventually brought home on a two-out RBI single by Colby Rasmus. However, Dyson bounced back to strike out Evan Gattis swinging to end it. It wasn’t the smoothest appearance, but Dyson should continue to be the primary choice for Jeff Banister in the ninth inning for the time being.
May 20 - 11:24 PM

Sam Dyson is expected to take over as the Rangers' closer.

Shawn Tolleson learned Wednesday that he was being pulled off ninth-inning duties after giving up a walkoff grand slam to Khris Davis on Tuesday night. It was his fourth blown save of the season and inflated his season ERA to 9.20. Dyson, meanwhile, has a 1.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 19 innings this year. He has already vultured two saves.
May 18 - 1:44 PM

Sam Dyson earned his first save of the season Wednesday in the Rangers' 6-5 defeat of the White Sox.

Shawn Tolleson had thrown 39 pitches between a pair of outings Monday and Tuesday, so he was given the day off Wednesday afternoon in Arlington, Texas. But it looks like Dyson is the Rangers' best option for high-leverage situations right now anyway. He struck out one of the three batters he faced in a hitless ninth inning on Wednesday and boasts a 2.12 ERA in 17 innings this season. Tolleson has a 5.40 ERA in 13 1/3 innings. There's no change in roles yet, but Dyson remains a smart fantasy stash.
May 11 - 5:22 PM

Rangers manager Jeff Banister said after Thursday's Game 1 victory that Shawn Tolleson "is still our guy, and you will see him at the end of the game."

Banister used Sam Dyson to close out Thursday's win, as he felt his groundball tendencies were a better option in the ninth inning against the middle of the Blue Jays' lineup. The situation could come up again, so don't rule Dyson out for more save chances, but it looks like Tolleson retains his closer tag. "In a series like this," Banister said, "it’s about finding the best matchups for our bullpen. It’s not ninth inning, eighth inning, seventh inning. It’s about those guys coming in when we feel it’s the best opportunity for them to get the outs we need to get."

Sam Dyson notched his second save in four days Wednesday against the Astros.

Shawn Tolleson was rested tonight after pitching six of the previous seven days, so Dyson was the choice to close. It's surprising the Rangers so quickly identified him as their second best reliever, but he should live up to it.

Rangers acquired RHP Sam Dyson from the Marlins in exchange for C Tomas Telis and LHP Cody Ege.

Dyson holds a 3.68 ERA with 41 strikeouts over 44 innings this season. He'll be used in the middle innings.
