Orioles optioned OF Henry Urrutia to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 28-year-old hit well in spring play, slashing .320/.379/.520 with a homer and seven RBI in 25 at-bats. If it wasn't for the strong depth that the O's have in the outfield at the big league level, he may have broken camp with the team. He should get an opportunity at some point during the 2015 season. Henry Urrutia went 3-for-4 with a two-run double Friday against the Blue Jays.

Urrutia was a non-factor last year after struggling in 51 games for Triple-A Norfolk and going down with a hernia, but the Orioles haven't given up on his bat yet. The 28-year-old Cuban defector is 6-for-15 with a couple of walks and just one strikeout this spring. He could figure into the mix at DH if he keeps it up/

Henry Urrutia (hernia) will begin a rehab assignment next week.

It's not clear yet which affiliate he'll be assigned to. Urrutia underwent sports hernia surgery back in early May but should rejoin Triple-A Norfolk before long.

Henry Urrutia will miss the next 6-8 weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery on Tuesday.

It's a tough break for the Cuban defector. Urrutia was slowed in spring training by shoulder soreness, and now he has this ailment to recover from. It's shaping up as a lost year for the 27-year-old.

Henry Urrutia will be placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Norfolk due to an abdominal strain.

Urrutia, 27, was hitting .220/.250/.293 with six doubles, seven RBI and a 23/4 K/BB ratio over his first 88 plate appearances this season. He'll hope for better results upon his return.

Orioles optioned OF Henry Urrutia to Triple-A Norfolk.

Urrutia was slowed this spring by shoulder soreness, but the Orioles are high on his future and should let him work his way into the corner outfield and DH mix at some point this spring. The 27-year-old Cuban hit .347/.406/.506 last year in the minor leagues.

Henry Urrutia went 2-for-4 with his first homer Friday as an Orioles split-squad and a Twins split-squad played to a 2-2 tie.

Urrutia's chances of making the Orioles took a big hit with the Nelson Cruz signing. He's also fought some shoulder soreness this spring, but he's hit .333 in 24 at-bats since returning to the lineup. While he'll most likely start the season in Triple-A, he could get a look in left field or at DH later on.

Henry Urrutia (shoulder) has been cleared for games.

The plan calls for Urrutia to play in Thursday's Grapefruit League tilt. He was shut down as a precaution last week due to mild soreness in his right shoulder. The discomfort should not affect his status for Opening Day.

Henry Urrutia (shoulder) expects to play in a Grapefruit League game on Wednesday.

Urrutia was shut down for a couple of days due to soreness in his right shoulder. He received treatment and was able to play catch with no issue on Tuesday in camp. The young Cuban outfielder is trying to win a spot on the Opening Day roster, though the odds of that happening took a huge hit when the Orioles signed Nelson Cruz.

Henry Urrutia will be shut down for the next two days due to a sore shoulder.

Urrutia received treatment on his right shoulder Saturday morning, and he'll sit out as they try to allow for some of the inflammation to subside. The issue doesn't affect his ability to hit, however. He should be back in action early next week.

Henry Urrutia received treatment on Saturday for a sore throwing shoulder.

He's still able to swing a bat without any issue, it only impacts his ability to throw in the outfield. His fantasy prospects for 2014 took a significant hit when the team signed Nelson Cruz, who is expected to see most of the at-bats as the O's designated hitter in 2014.

Henry Urrutia missed part of Wednesday's workout due to a stomach issue.

He should be back to normal soon enough. Urrutia didn't do much in his first taste of the big leagues, but he could end up with a significant role this season depending on if the Orioles make any more moves.

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that Henry Urrutia "looks jacked" after adding 18 pounds of muscle over the offseason.

Encina says Urrutia "looks entirely different" than the guy he saw in spring training last year. The Cuban defector was also praised by Orioles manager Buck Showalter last week for how dedicated he's been at trying to improve his defense. Urrutia batted a blistering .347/.406/.506 with nine homers and 50 RBI in 81 games between Double- and Triple-A last year before a brief second-half audition with the O's. Baltimore has at-bats available in left field and at DH, so the soon-to-be 27-year-old will be someone to keep an eye on.

Steve Melewski of MASN Sports believes that Henry Urrutia has a chance to start in left field for the Orioles in 2014.

The organization remains very high on the 26-year-old Cuban defector after an impressive 2013 campaign. Despite the turmoil revolving around his defection, and adjusting to life in the United States, all he did was slash .347/.406/.506 with nine homers and 50 RBI in 81 games between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk, then held his own during a brief 58 at-bat sample with the O's. If he can show in spring training that he can handle the position defensively, there's a strong chance he becomes a regular in the lineup.

Henry Urrutia is off to a blistering start in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .471/.550/.588 with a pair of RBI and a stolen base through his first six games (17 at-bats).

The 26-year-old Cuban defector had an extremely impressive 2013 campaign in the minor leagues, but hit just .276/.276/.310 with two RBI and 11 strikeouts in his brief 58 at-bat audition with the Orioles. He'll compete in spring training to be the O's everyday DH heading into the 2014 season, and could be relevant in fantasy leagues should he secure that gig.
