Athletics optioned INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara to High-A Stockton.

The move clears a 25-man roster spot for Billy Butler, who was activated off the 7-day concussion disabled list in a corresponding move. Alcantara is 3-for-15 with eight strikeouts this season in the major leagues.

Athletics recalled INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara has had a couple of brief stints with the big club since being acquired from the Cubs back in June, but he should now get a chance to stick around down the stretch. The 24-year-old has hit .276/.325/.457 with 11 homers and 32 steals over 102 games this season at the Triple-A level.
Aug 22 - 7:16 PM

Athletics minor league INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara produced four hits in Monday's win for Triple-A Nashville.

He drove in four runs as the Sounds rolled to an easy 12-5 win over Omaha. Alcantara has been scorching hot over his last 10 games, hitting .510 with 12 RBI during that span while raising his season average from .238 to .282. The 24-year-old leads the Pacific Coast League with 28 steals and has only been caught three times this season. Alcantara was traded from the Cubs last month in a deal that sent Chris Coghlan back to Chicago. He's gone 3-for-13 in five games in the majors this year.
Jul 26 - 2:30 PM

Athletics optioned INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Nashville.

He's clearly out to accommodate the arrival of Sunday's starter, Jesse Hahn. Alcantara has three hits in 13 at-bats in his brief time with the big club this season.
Jul 24 - 12:18 PM

Athletics recalled INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara has 28 steals in 31 attempts and a .750 OPS in 77 games this season between the Triple-A affiliates of the Cubs and Athletics. The versatile 24-year-old could take on fantasy value if he finds regular at-bats.

Athletics optioned INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara came over to the A's from the Cubs as part of the Chris Coghlan trade earlier this month. He was called up to the big league club on June 21 and picked up two hits in eight at-bats during that cup of iced coffee. The 24-year-old utility bat also stole two bases in that space. Expect to see him called up again the next time the A's are looking for an additional bench bat.
Jun 29 - 5:54 PM

Athletics recalled INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara from Triple-A Nashville.

Alcantara, who was recently acquired from the Cubs for Chris Coghlan, was batting .248/.299/.415 with six homers and 26 steals over 63 games this season in Triple-A. The 24-year-old figures to serve in a utility role initially, but he could find regular playing time during the second half.
Jun 21 - 2:42 PM

Athletics acquired 2B Arismendy Alcantara from the Cubs for INF/OF Chris Coghlan.

He'll report to Triple-A Nashville. Alcantara is only hitting .260 in the minors this year but he's a perfect 21-for-21 on steal attempts. The 24-year-old owns a .194 average across 304 major league at-bats.
Jun 9 - 5:54 PM

Cubs optioned INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa.

He's getting the boot despite a .360 average and five steals this spring, as the Cubs simply don't have room for him on their loaded roster. A trade would be the best thing for Alcantara, but for now he'll bide his time at Triple-A.
Mar 18 - 3:58 PM

Cubs optioned INF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa.

The move clears a spot for Addison Russell on the active roster. Alcantara has scuffled in limited playing time so far this season, so he's probably better off getting regular at-bats in the minors right now. We should see him again soon.

Arismendy Alcantara's first hit of the season was timely, as his 10th-inning RBI single sent the Cubs to a win over the Reds on Monday.

Alcantara came into the game 0-for-12 and stepped to the plate in the 10th inning 0-for-4. He was able to send a Burke Badenhop offering into right-center, plating the winning run from third base for the win. Alcantara will serve as a super-utility player for the Cubs this season.

Arismendy Alcantara is starting at second base and batting seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

The Cubs had Tommy La Stella at second base and Mike Olt at third on Opening Day, but they've moved La Stella to third and put Olt on the bench for this one. Alcantara might not be your typical everyday player this season, but expect crafty manager Joe Maddon to be able to find a spot in the lineup for him more times than not. Miguel Montero is also in there Wednesday after sitting in favor of David Ross on Sunday.

Arismendy Alcantara went 1-for-3 with a solo home run as the Cubs fell 6-1 to the Padres on Sunday.

Alcantara homered off of Jose Valverde in the sixth inning, providing the Cubs their only run on the afternoon. The 23-year-old has two homers on the spring, both hit in his last two games. Alcantara will serve as a super-utility player for the Cubs this season. He will strike out a lot, but should be useful for both home runs and stolen bases, giving him mixed league appeal.

Arismendy Alcantara belted a two-run homer on Friday helping to power the Cubs to a 10-7 victory over the White Sox in Cactus League play.

Alcantara's shot off Matt Albers came in the seventh inning, putting the Cubs ahead 7-5. It was one of four long balls for the Cubbies in the ballgame as David Ross, Taylor Teagarden and Anthony Giansanti also went deep. Alcantara is expected to serve in a super utility role for the Cubs in 2015, a-la Ben Zobrist, and should derive plenty of mixed league value with his dynamic combination of power and speed.
