Cubs optioned INF Arismendy Alcantara to Triple-A Iowa.
The move clears a spot for Addison Russell on the active roster. Alcantara has scuffled in limited playing time so far this season, so he's probably better off getting regular at-bats in the minors right now. We should see him again soon. Apr 21 - 3:48 PM

Arismendy Alcantara's first hit of the season was timely, as his 10th-inning RBI single sent the Cubs to a win over the Reds on Monday.

Alcantara came into the game 0-for-12 and stepped to the plate in the 10th inning 0-for-4. He was able to send a Burke Badenhop offering into right-center, plating the winning run from third base for the win. Alcantara will serve as a super-utility player for the Cubs this season.

Arismendy Alcantara is starting at second base and batting seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

The Cubs had Tommy La Stella at second base and Mike Olt at third on Opening Day, but they've moved La Stella to third and put Olt on the bench for this one. Alcantara might not be your typical everyday player this season, but expect crafty manager Joe Maddon to be able to find a spot in the lineup for him more times than not. Miguel Montero is also in there Wednesday after sitting in favor of David Ross on Sunday.
Apr 8 - 10:23 AM

Arismendy Alcantara went 1-for-3 with a solo home run as the Cubs fell 6-1 to the Padres on Sunday.

Alcantara homered off of Jose Valverde in the sixth inning, providing the Cubs their only run on the afternoon. The 23-year-old has two homers on the spring, both hit in his last two games. Alcantara will serve as a super-utility player for the Cubs this season. He will strike out a lot, but should be useful for both home runs and stolen bases, giving him mixed league appeal.
Mar 22 - 7:29 PM

Arismendy Alcantara belted a two-run homer on Friday helping to power the Cubs to a 10-7 victory over the White Sox in Cactus League play.

Alcantara's shot off Matt Albers came in the seventh inning, putting the Cubs ahead 7-5. It was one of four long balls for the Cubbies in the ballgame as David Ross, Taylor Teagarden and Anthony Giansanti also went deep. Alcantara is expected to serve in a super utility role for the Cubs in 2015, a-la Ben Zobrist, and should derive plenty of mixed league value with his dynamic combination of power and speed.
Mar 21 - 2:13 PM

Arismendy Alcantara hit a two-run double in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

Alcantara's double in the sixth inning gave the Cubs a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The 22-year-old showed flashes of his potential this season but struggled for much of the year, finishing with a .205/.254/.367 line. Less lauded than some of his Cubs teammates, Alcantara should still be a big part of the future in Chicago.

Arismendy Alcantara launched a three-run homer and drew a walk Saturday against the Dodgers.

Alcantara's seventh-inning blast brought the Cubs within one run before Chris Coghlan put them ahead in the eighth. The 22-year-old has struggled to make contact during his first taste of the big leagues and owns a .214 batting average to go along with a 78/17 K/BB ratio, but he has helped fantasy owners by amassing 10 home runs, 26 RBI, eight stolen bases, and 31 runs scored in 63 games.

Arismendy Alcantara is back in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Alcantara missed the last two games after spraining his right wrist on Monday. The rookie has hit .212/.261/.363 with nine homers and eight steals over 61 games since being promoted by the Cubs in July.

Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) remained out of the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

There's no word yet on Alcantara's MRI results, but obviously his right wrist is still not game-ready. The Cubs should have more on the outfielder's status later Wednesday. Ryan Kalish is in center field Wednesday.

Arismendy Alcantara underwent an MRI on his ailing right wrist Tuesday.

Arismendy Alcantara went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Pirates on Friday.

It was his first multi-hit game since August 24. With nine homers and seven stolen bases, Alcantara has some enticing skills, but he's batting just .210/.262/.369 through his first 58 games in the majors.

Arismendy Alcantara hit his eighth home run, a two-run shot, in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Alcantara's power has come and gone in the first few months of his major league career -- Alcantara hit two homers in his first nine games before hitting just one in his next 31 contests. Now he's back on the upswing, with Tuesday's blast registering as his fifth in his last 10 games. The 22-year-old is batting just .220/.279/.390 despite the power surge.
