Rob Brantly hit his first home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

Brantly, appearing in just his third game this season, took Indians starter Carlos Carrasco deep for a three-run shot in the second inning. It is his only hit in seven at-bats thus far after an avulsion fracture in his left thumb kept him out for much of the early part of the season.

White Sox recalled C Rob Brantly from Double-A Birmingham.

Brantly missed an early portion of the season with an avulsion fracture in his left thumb before the White Sox shuttled him off to work in the minors. While he's hit .310/.335/.483 working between Double and Triple-A this season, he hasn't seen major league action since 2013. In that campaign, he hit just .211/.263/.265 with the Marlins.

White Sox activated C Rob Brantly from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Double-A Birmingham.

Brantly is recovered from the avulsion fracture in his left thumb, but there's no place for him on the White Sox active roster. The 25-year-old catcher hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2013, when he batted just .211/.263/.265 in 67 games with the Marlins.

White Sox placed C Rob Brantly on the 15-day disabled list with an avulsion fracture in his left thumb.

The injury occurred during spring training and Brantly had been attempting to play through it. He lost out to Geovany Soto during the spring for the team's backup catcher gig and now won't be seeing time with the White Sox any time soon.

White Sox optioned C Rob Brantly to Triple-A Charlotte.

Brantly was claimed off waivers from the Marlins over the winter, but hit just .167 (3-for-18) this spring and failed to secure the backup catcher job. Still, the 25-year-old is useful catching depth to have in the organization.

White Sox claimed C Rob Brantly off waivers from the Marlins.

It wasn't too long ago that Brantly was considered the catcher of the future for the Marlins, but he played exclusively at the Triple-A level this past season. The 25-year-old appeared in 98 games with the Marlins from 2012-2013 and batted .235/.298/.325 with four home runs and 26 RBI.

Rob Brantly homered in his lone at-bat Wednesday and is 7-for-14 this spring.

Brantly was handed a starting job last spring and disappointed, hitting .211/.263/.265 in 223 at-bats. As a result, the Marlins went and signed Jarrod Saltalamacchia and essentially punched Brantly's ticket back to Triple-A this year. It would taken an injury to Salty or backup Jeff Mathis for Brantly to make the club.

Marlins recalled C Rob Brantly from Triple-A New Orleans.

Brantly was demoted in early August after batting .225/.275/.284 over 204 at-bats. He should return to a part-time role with Jeff Mathis down the stretch. The Marlins still view Brantly as their long-term catcher.

Marlins optioned C Rob Brantly to Triple-A New Orleans.

Brantly was the team's Opening Day catcher, but he's sporting an ugly .225/.275/.284 batting line with one homer this season and had been losing playing time to Jeff Mathis. The Marlins still view the 24-year-old as their long-term catcher, but he clearly needs more seasoning.

Rob Brantly went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Marlins' loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

The homer was Brantly's first of the year, giving him 18 RBI as well. In his first full season in the majors, Brantly is hitting just .242/.296/.309 in 52 games.

Rob Brantly drove home his 11th run of the season in Friday’s loss to the Diamondbacks.

Brantly’s RBI single in the seventh inning was his only hit in four at-bats on the night. He’s been a bit of a disappointment offensively thus far, hitting .247/.321/.323 with no homers, 11 RBI and only four runs scored on the season. Fantasy owners in two-catcher formats who counted on more production from the Marlins backstop have likely had to search for other options.

Brantly sat out Sunday's game due to recurring discomfort with his right index finger, but the injury didn't require an extended absence. The 23-year-old backstop is hitting just .222/.297/.309 through 23 games this season.

Brantly suffered a cut on the index finger of his throwing hand last week, and although he returned to action for a few games, the finger is still giving him trouble. Miguel Olivo is catching on Sunday.
